UPDATE: 1:43AM & 10:14 AM & 11:29 AM Sept. 11, 2009 & 4:41 PM

This just in the Religious Right is using the Joe Wilson incident to raise money and get the base active : from Coral Ridge ministries a plea which arrived in my email. Note Coral Ridge Ministries in so many words is repeating Joe Wilson's slander that President Obama is lying to the Congress , the Senate and the American people.

Congress Needs to Hear From You – Now!
A special message from Robert Knight

While Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-S.C) outburst of "You lie!" during President Obama’s speech Wednesday night to Congress on health care wasn’t the most diplomatic statement, the president indeed made many claims that cannot withstand scrutiny.

Let’s take a look at just a few:

...Stop this Madness in the Making!

The Wall Street Journal editorial page, which has had a tutorial nearly every day about what is actually in the 1,013-page House bill and the new Senate "compromise" version offered by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), summarized the president’s Wednesday night goal:

"Mr. Obama's speech was less about persuading the public than it was a political pep talk to this Beltway constituency. He hopes to buy enough political breathing space with a bump in the polls—however short-lived—to steel their nerves to power ObamaCare into law. The only way to stop it now is with a giant wave of popular opposition."

That’s why I hope you’ll tell your congressman and senators that you don’t want any of the current proposals and for them to start over, period!

The congressional switchboard number is (202) 224-3121 or (202) 225-3121. Please call or email your representative and senators now to voice opposition to this dangerous bill. To reach your House member, please click here. To reach your senators, please click here.

You can get a clear idea of what’s at stake in the health care debate when you request the new video from Coral Ridge Ministries, The Health Care Lie! It tells you why the proposed government health care takeover will mean federals deficits, as well as the delay or denial of needed health care. To request this video, please click here.

I hope will request this powerful resource. And, remember, your financial gift to help Coral Ridge Ministries makes it possible to present the truth about this issue and the Good News of forgiveness and eternal life through Christ.

Thank you for standing with us!

Sincerely in Christ, Robert Knight

Joe Wilson is using his 15 minutes of fame as effectively as possible:
And in another Email from the Ultra Conservative Washington Times I received this fund raising plea from Joe Wilson himself of which here is part of it:

Dear friend,

Today, I need your help more than ever before. I've been under attack by the liberal left for months because of my opposition to their policies, especially government-run healthcare. They've run commercials in my home district and flooded my office with phone calls and protestors. They've done everything they can to quiet my very vocal opposition to more government interference in our lives. Now, it's gotten even worse.

But I will not stop fighting against their policies that will only lead to more government interference, more spending, and higher deficits.

...Will you please visit take a few minutes today to watch this video, and make a donation to my campaign? It will take a lot of work, but I know we can match what the liberals poured into my opponent's bank account last night, and fight back against the Democrats' unwavering attacks.

Please click here now to watch my video and help me continue my fight. Thank you.

Sincerely,Joe Wilson
U.S. Representative

Note these quotes of Thomas Jefferson at Resist.net a conservative organization which has joined with FreedomWorks and Tea Party groups for Sept. 12 March on Washington. These quotes and others similar to them are found on a number of right wing conservative websites as justification for an uprising against the Obama administration and if necessary a violent uprising at that to water the tree of liberty as Jefferson said :"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." .So these groups search through the words of the Founding Fathers to defend their actions. In their view the words of the Founding Fathers is equivalent to the words of the Apostles since America they believe is God's chosen nation. If this is so then its creation is a matter of Divine Providence and not merely the work of men.

Thomas Jefferson

“Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God” -- Found among his papers after death.

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them." --Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, 1787. ME 6:373, Papers 12:356

"Governments, wherein the will of every one has a just influence... has its evils,... the principal of which is the turbulence to which it is subject. But weigh this against the oppressions of monarchy, and it becomes nothing. Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem. [I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.] Even this evil is productive of good. It prevents the degeneracy of government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. ME 6:64

Obama's critics and their Media embedded attack dogs continue to snarl and foam at the mouth with their fact-challenged attacks on him and his administration and his policies. But in light of what a great speech Obama gave and his confidence in the importance of health care reform for America these critics sound even more desperate. But sometimes desperation can unfortunately lead to desperate acts.

So first a cautionary story from Rachell Maddow about how Joe Wilson who yelled liar at president Obama has become a Republican and conservative folk hero who said out loud what they all believe. So the main thing they understood about Obama's speech was Joe Wilson's remark which summed up the entire speech for them. To those on the right Obama is still just trying to hide his communistic socialist agenda. Maddow also talks about Freedom Works and its connections with a variety of extremist terrorists types as I have mentioned such as:

Video on home page of Freedom Works in which Matt Kibbe disingenuously blames Democrats for the rowdiness at the Town Halls. Denies Freedom Works is influencing the people who are appearing at the Town Halls. But then admits they train their people not to just be disruptive and give out commentary on the health care proposed policies of the Obama administration. So the shouting matches didn't start till the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi got involved and made disparaging remarks about the peoples behavior at the Town Halls.

And from FreedomWorks website describe their organization as promoting "aggressive, real-time campaigns " and "FreedomWorks recruits, educates, trains and mobilizes hundreds of thousands of volunteer activists to fight for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom." So not such a benign organization after all.

Founded in 1984, FreedomWorks is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has hundreds of thousands of grassroots volunteers nationwide. The organization is chaired by former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey and the President is Matt Kibbe.

Death-panel pusher Hannity decries Obama's address as "campaign speech full of partisan hackery" From the September 9 edition of Fox News' Hannity:a MediaMatters.org

Graham: Obama's Health Care Speech Was 'A Disaster'

Obama Accepts Joe Wilson's Apology

Wilson called Obama a liar during Obama's speech. Obama in accepting Joe Wilson's apology skillfully uses this opportunity to chastise the media for paying too much attention to the loudest and shrillest voices rather than dealing seriously with an issue. The media was as much to blame for the ongoing mob like atmosphere at Town Hall Meetings as were the Republicans and conservatives and the employees in the health insurance industry who were encouraged and cajoled into taking part in these Town Halls by shouting people down and acting not as responsible citizens but as agitators .

Joe Wilson wasn't the only Republican who acted in a disrespectful and confrontational and hostile manner during Obama's speech as Ryan Grim points out.

"Joe Wilson Apologizes For Shouting "You Lie!" At Obama" by Ryan Grim at Huffington PostSept.9 2009

...Wilson's wasn't the only disruption, though it was the most extreme. Throughout the speech, Republican members of Congress repeatedly held up stacks of papers that appeared to represent ideas they had for the bill.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) held signs that read "What Bill?" and "What Plan?"

When Obama told the chamber that the "death panel" lie was, in fact, a lie, a Republican member said loudly enough to be heard in the press gallery, "Read the bill" -- a common refrain at August's angry town hall meetings.

When Obama told the chamber that he had "no interest in putting insurance companies out of business," a Republican member responded with a loud, "Ha!"

"Nineteen years, never, never have I seen anything like this," said a furious Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) after the speech.

"I thought it was very inappropriate behavior, to hold up signs. None of us ever would have done that," said Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.). "I don't think in the Congress of the United States there ought to be catcalls, or people standing up and yelling comments or holding up signs."

Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), the longest serving member in House history, said he was not impressed by the GOP antics. "Well, you've got to understand: They're Republicans. They're just doing what comes natural," he told HuffPost.

Obama, in his speech, referenced Dingell's father for first introducing universal health care legislation in 1943. Dingell has introduced such a bill every year he's been in Congress and today's House bill bears his name.

"I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last," Obama said of the long history of failed efforts. It struck a chord with Dingell. "The best speech I've ever heard on the floor of the House," he said.

Joe Wilson for instance is promoter of the Confederate flag and is a staunch defender of the South claiming Southerners never acted dishonorably. He's just a good old boy who prefers his own imaginary and romanticized view of the South in which slavery, segregation and racism was not that bad.

"Rep. Joe Wilson said "the Confederate heritage is very honorable" during SC flag dispute" By Chris Kromm at Facing South/Southern Studies.org September 10, 2009

Rep. Joe Wilson is getting his 15 minutes of national fame after bellowing "you lie!" during President Obama's health care address last night. But Wilson earned notoriety in his home state of South Carolina in the late 1990s when, as a state legislator, he was one of the staunchest defenders of flying the Confederate battle flag over the state capitol.

As Firedoglake reported earlier today, citing the blog Inside Charm City, state Sen. Joe Wilson was one of only seven members of the South Carolina Senate to vote to keep the Confederate battle flag flying over the state house in 2000. In April 2000, the Senate voted 36-7 to bring down the flag.

But then-Sen. Wilson did more than vote to keep it: he went so far as to appear to defend the Confederacy, declaring that "the Confederate heritage is very honorable." Here's the full quote from a BBC News report:

But local lawmakers, like Republican senator Joe Wilson say it is all about pride and history, and nothing to do with racism and hate. He finds comparisons with Nazis odious.

"That's offensive to me that they would take my heritage and make it into a Holocaust era type description. I find that very offensive, and it's not true," Senator Wilson said. "The Southern heritage, the Confederate heritage is very honourable."

The decision to fly the Confederate battle flag was made by an all-white legislature in 1962 as the civil rights movement was picking up steam. The bill passed in 2000 didn't even remove the flag entirely -- it called for a different version of flag to be flown in front of the state house instead of on top of it.

The continued presence of a Confederate flag at the state house has caused the controversy to continue. In July 2009, the Atlantic Coast Conference -- after discussions with the NAACP -- decided to move three future college baseball tournaments out of South Carolina.

Joe Wilson defends flying the Confederate Flag over state government buildingsand cannot understand why this would cause controversy.

South Carolina Congressman Who Screamed at President Obama Fought to Keep Confederate Flag
By: Blue Texan Firedoglake.com September 10, 2009

...That's right -- Wilson was one of only seven members of the South Carolina Senate to vote to stick it to the blacks keep the battle flag. It was finally brought down under intense national pressure and from an NAACP boycott, which cost the state millions in tourism revenue.

Wilson was just being a good foot soldier for the Neo-Confederate cause, as he's a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an organization teeming with white supremecists and right-wing extremists.

Notes the Southern Poverty Law Center,

Early editions of the SCV's Confederate Veteran newsletter defended the Ku Klux Klan, argued that the United States was created "for white people," and complained that "when a Negro has learned to read he ceases to work."

As DougJ wrote,

No one could have predicted that a white southern Congressman would heckle a black president.

But it also reveals the Republican Conservative mindset which wants to have all Americans adhere to a particular uncritical national myth divorced from reality as their version of United States history. Strom Thurmond was a full fledged unrepentant racist who was in favor of Jim Crow Laws and segregation and lynchings but is still seen as a hero to many Republicans and conservatives. For instance Pat Buchanan has said America was built by white Christian men and that American society today should reflect that reality.

Flashback: Rep. Wilson Also Had To Apologize After Attacking Strom Thurmond's Illegitimate Daughter
Justin Elliott at TPM liveWire September 10, 2009,

Flashback to mid-December 2003, when Essie Mae Washington-Williams came forward with the bombshell that she was the illegitimate daughter of the recently-deceased patriarch of South Carolina politics, Sen. Strom Thurmond.

Rep. Wilson, a former page of Thurmond's, immediately told The State newspaper that he didn't believe Williams. He deemed the revelation "unseemly." And he added that even if she was telling the truth, she should have kept the inconvenient facts to herself:

"It's a smear on the image that [Thurmond] has as a person of high integrity who has been so loyal to the people of South Carolina," Wilson said.

Of course, Williams' story was entirely true -- and never really in doubt. Thurmond was 22 and Williams' mother, a black maid working in his family home, was 16 when Williams was born in 1925. Thurmond supported Williams financially for decades.

The State story continued with Wilson wondering aloud how anyone could dare "diminish" one of his personal heroes.

Many journalists and pundits and bloggers are commenting on the success of Obama's speech and that this may turn the tide in his favor after the disastrous Town Halls engineered by the Republicans, the Religious Right and the health care insurance industry. Here's a couple of examples:

"Obama Steps Up To The Plate" Osterley Times.blogspot.com by Kel Sept. 10,2009

I honestly thought he knocked the ball out of the park. After weeks of listening to Republican rants and lies, an adult finally told everyone to get a grip.

I have no idea where the Republicans will now go and don't expect this to have any effect on their behaviour, but Obama - by being so reasonable - has only highlighted their churlishness and their lack of good will on this subject.

Why I Loved Obama's Health Care Speech Paul Begala at Huffington Post, Sept.9,2009

I loved Pres. Obama's speech. It rallied dispirited Democrats, reassured disenchanted independents and intimidated Republicans. He called a lie a lie, and pledged to call out the right-wing thugs if (well, when) they continue lying
.

A Turning Point For Obama by Dan Froomkin at Huffington Post Sept. 10, 2009

President Obama showed the nation who he is and what he believes in last night.

His speech to a joint session of Congress wasn't the partisan declaration of war that many of his fellow Democrats had been yearning for, but it was nevertheless a bold and confident declaration of basic principles, and a powerful and emotional attempt to recapture the public debate from the unhinged zealots who dominated it during August.

...The speech did mark a turning point, however. The president we saw last night was not the high-minded pushover we'd seen so much of lately. He was inspirational, forceful -- presidential.
