Press of Force: 'Police squash us like terrorists'
Like almost every figure in authority who has unleashed the police on non-violent protesters, including most recently Chancellor Katehi at UC Davis, Bloomberg has repeatedly used the argument that he is commandeering the NYPD to "protect people." Meanwhile, thousands are arrested and hundreds injured -- including police who get injuries trying to beat up or lift up protesters.
The only people Bloomberg and his status quo colleagues are trying to protect are their positions of authority and privilege.

Thom Hartmann once again points out that the corporate run media are not interested in truth but rather with profits, rating and keeping their bosses who make up the 1% happy.
Thom Hartmann calls out Mitt Romney on his first campaign in which he lies about what Obama said in the run up to the 2008 election.
The quote used was that of Obama quoting the McCain campaign advisers in 2008.
Hartmann: If a politician lies on corporate TV...did he really lie? by Thom Hartmann The Big Picture... on 23. November 2011
As long as the corporations running the networks like your politics - and as long as they depend on access to you to keep viewership up and ad revenue coming in - then you can waltz in anytime you want - spew as many lies as you want - and no "news" person will ever point it out. At most, a network may allow on a third-party "strategist" from the other side who will call out the lie. And we can't expect these campaigns to police themselves - and not lie - any more than we can expect big multinational corporations to give a damn about keeping jobs in America.
The main way We The People can know the truth is through the gatekeepers known as the media - and without them - so much for having an informed electorate - one of the most important part of a healthy democracy. It's time to bring back news in the public interest. And time to promote REAL journalism - journalism that puts the facts over profits and access.
As we have noted the elites on Wall Street and in Washington DC are in a bit of a panic over the Occupy Movement which shows the movement has traction and staying power.
And as we saw recently in the Walk of Shame of the Chancellor of UCDavis the movement is well organized and disciplined in the way a large number of students were able to sit quietly and keep the silence during this impressive show of real concern by these young students.
The students and so many other young people taking part in the Occupy Movement are also putting to shame all those in the older generation who have over the decades compromised their principle if they had any to begin with in order to pursue more wealth and material goods while damning themselves to spend much of their Golden Years filled with regret if they don't start to take action and reclaim what we have let slip away.
Mayor Bloomberg of New York tries to paper over his mishandling of the protests of the #Occupy Wall Street movement by hyping a non-story about and not so dangerous terrorist threat.
In this recent incident even the FBI and Homeland security refused to press for charges .

Despite the attempt to create a sense of televised urgency with Michael Bloomberg starring as the savior of the public from an "imminent terrorist attack" by NYC resident Jose Pimental, this past Sunday's NYC news event -- co-starring the NYPD commissoner -- was another failed attempt to shore up the multi-billionaire mayor's plummeting image.
Bloomberg -- who wore a golf course orange sweater and khakis no doubt to emphasize that the "foiled" terrorist plot was so significant that he had just rushed from the links to "reassure" the public that his adroitness and tenacity as a "protector" of public safety extended beyond thousands of arrests of peaceful non-violent protestors, millions of dollars of taxpayer money spent on using the NYPD as a thuggish security force for the 1%, and smashing Liberty Park to smithereens like a tin horn dictator on a rampage -- even wantonly permitting the destruction of the OWS library in a "1984" like gesture of contempt.
The only problem for Bloomberg was that the FBI -- and by implication the Department of Homeland Security -- pepper sprayed the notion that Pimental was any imminent threat to anybody. It is rather unusual for the FBI to actively take down a government official through the media over "terrorism," but in this case the Associated Press reported that the FBI thought Pimental was not worthy of arrest. In fact, terrorism charges almost always come through federal apprehension, which was a tip off that something was amiss in that Pimental was seized by the NYPD and charged by a New York City district attorney.
CBS News featured an Associated Press article entitled: "FBI declined to pursue NYC bomb plot."
The article states it simply in its first paragraph: "U.S. authorities declined to pursue a case against an 'al Qaeda sympathizer' accused of plotting to bomb police stations and post offices in the New York area because they believed he was mentally unstable and incapable of pulling it off, two law enforcement officials said Monday."
Furthermore, "The FBI concluded that Pimentel 'didn't have the predisposition or the ability to do anything on his own.' That the FBI did not believe Pimental an imminent threat to safety or even worth arresting went unmentioned in the Sunday Bloomberg conference.
No doubt seeing his image as respected "Mr. Third Way" deteriorating into something akin to a Manuel Noriega wannabee as a protector of the banks and the 1%, Bloomberg was champing at the bit for a little redemption.
In the end, charges will be dropped against Pimental or he will be found not guilty. That's because the FBI just tossed cold water over the PR stunt. This is just Bloomberg trying to use Bush-style fear to stop his reputation from eroding further.
Unfortunately for Bloomberg, the feds don't want any part of it. The FBI doesn't like its reputation as an anti-terrorist watchdog slighted for political purposes.
So it just pepper sprayed Bloomberg with a heavy dose of hard knuckle reality.

" Congress May Pass a Bill Similar to China's Internet Censorship, With Corporations in Charge " by ELLIOT COHEN FOR BUZZFLASH AT TRUTHOUT , November 22, 2011
On the surface, the so-called "Stop Online Piracy Act" (SOPA) looks like it has a noble end, that of protecting criminal violations of copyright by foreign (non-U.S.) actors. However, on careful inspection, the Act has the potential to spawn a virtual (cyber) witch-hunt and dismantle the free and democratic edifice of the Internet.
Giant ISPs such as Comcast have already begun to block file sharing websites; and Comcast has already gone to court and gotten the legal green light to block or slow web content. Now, as the Federal Communication Commission sits on the sidelines, it is about to receive the authority from Congress to go after content providers if, pursuant to Section 104 of SOPA, it can claim a "reasonable belief" that they are hosting at least some material that is infringing the rights of copyright owners. And it can do so with complete civil and criminal immunity.
