It should be noted that the US is no. 1 when it comes to filling its prisons compared to other nations. Many of those in prison are there because of the draconian anti-drug laws .
Incarcerating fewer American citizens would save money.
Decriminalizing drugs and treated those addicted as victims rather than criminals would go along way to create a more just society.
As for marijuana for instance the US government could decriminalize it and allow private production and distribution which would crate through taxes on farms and sales taxes on the product when sold.
This would further reduce the underground economy while reducing the cost of Drug prohibition.
The other issue concerning drug enforcement is that the poor and minorities are disproportionately targeted by the police leading to further social inequality
To put it another way the anti-drug laws are another way for America's justice system and predominately white ruling class to be used to further racist stereotypes and insure racial inequality in the USA.
Meanwhile someone who robs a store or bank is incarcerated for a number of years in America's privatized for profit prisons while the white collar thieves on Wall Street and the banksters are rarely if ever called to account and if they are they are put in posh prisons . Instead they should be tossed into ordinary prisons and into the general prison population to atone fro their crimes and sins .

As for the right to assembly, the right to speak out, the right to protests is being undermined by NYPD and other police across America who somehow have come to believe that the Freedom of Speech and the freedom to assemble and protest have been suspended since 9/11 unless you belong to a right wing political movement such as The Tea Party .

Hillary Clinton's response to Ghaddfi's death. Looks like a parody on SNL. Is it real ?
She shows no concern about the details of his death another possible murder or assassination . If he lived the US would have insisted on keeping him silent and put on trial in a Kangaroo Court like they did Saddam. Another one for American Wild West rough justice rather than the rule of law ie lynchings .
When Saddam was captured and then put on trial the US and Iraqi officials tossed out the Geneva Conventions and other pesky bits of International Law or civil law and the rights of a POW and the rights of an accused suspect. Instead they held a phony Soviet Style show trial without any real concern for "Justice".

A true psychopath if ever there was one...
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shared a laugh with a television news reporter moments after hearing deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had been killed.
Warning Graphic images
In this video Gaddafi is appears injurned and not able to resist the rebels yet the NATO US backed rebels proceed to torture and gloat over Gaddafi and then execute him -
And can this video be authenticated if so then a new crime can be added to American War Crimes.
and this War Crime one takes place during Obama's watch.
Will there be an investigation.
NATO rebels abuse bloodied Gaddafi before his execution

These are the degenerates NATO has put into power, a blossoming democracy is surely on the way for the Libyan people.
and yet the rebel forces are insisting there be no postmortem autopsy to determine how Gaddafi was killed -in an explosion or by torture followed by execution. So much for Obama's commitment to the Rule of Law or abiding by International law.

Military commanders in the Libyan city of Misrata said on Saturday that no post-mortem would be carried out on the body of Moamer Kadhafi despite concerns over how the toppled dictator died. from Agence France Presse via Alternet
Interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil said an investigation was being conducted into the circumstances of Kadhafi's killing following his capture, bloodied but still alive, during the fall of his hometown Sirte on Thursday, after several foreign governments and human rights watchdogs posed questions.
But the military leadership in Misrata, where Kadhafi's body had been stored in a vegetable market freezer overnight and was again put on display for hundreds of curious onlookers on Saturday, insisted the inquiry would involve no autopsy.
"There will be no post-mortem today, nor any day," Misrata military council spokesman Fathi al-Bashaagha told AFP. "No one is going to open up his body."
His comments were confirmed by two other Misrata military chiefs.

First Texas Did Away With Last Meals for Prisoners; Now it's Axing Lunch on Weekends by lauren kelley , Via Alternet, October 21, 2011
Texas! The land where leaders break execution records, where potentially innocent men are put to death, and where death row inmates can't choose their last meal. Now, the state also has the distinction of denying its prisoners lunch on weekends. Really. The Times
Thousands of...inmates in the Texas prison system have been eating fewer meals since April after officials stopped serving lunch on the weekends in some prisons as a way to cut food-service costs. About 23,000 inmates in 36 prisons are eating two meals a day on Saturdays and Sundays instead of three. A meal the system calls brunch is usually served between 5 and 7 a.m., followed by dinner between 4 and 6:30 p.m.
and so it goes,
GORD.
