Over 5,000 barrels of oil a day gushing out of the well of Deepwater Horizon Site creating an environmental catastrophe.
Meanwhile these companies are making record profits this year of over 6 billion in profits. Greed before Safety.
Doyle criticizes BP, Transocean, and Halliburton for their failure to prevent or halt oil spill -
CongressmanDoyle — May 12, 2010 , Congressman Doyle castigated BP, Transocean, and Halliburton at a House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing for their failure to prevent or to halt the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico three weeks ago. He criticized the three for their unwillingness to take responsibility for the spill, and he called on these very profitable companies to dedicate more resources to developing and deploying safer technology and better approaches for addressing future such events.
Oil and Gas drilling is a matter of America's National Security so criticizing these folks as Bush would say is tantamount to treason and giving aid and comfort to America's enemies.
Anyway in this clip billionaire oil Baron T Boone Pickens is introduced erroneously as being in favor of alternative energy sources rather than fossil fuels.
T. Boone Pickens believes the liberal media as such is making too much out of this accident at The Deepwater Horizon site. He says its no big deal because the oil will get cleaned up . This ignores the fact that after these oil spills only about 20% at most of the oil is actually recovered.
T. Boone Pickens like other Uberconservatives such as Sarah Palin,McCain,Gingrich, Glenn Beck & the GOP argues any American who is against off shore Oil and Gas drilling or who is against Mountain Top Removal coal mining is unpatriotic and is giving support to America's enemies.
He just wants America to be able to become energy self-sufficient by whatever means necessary. He says America shouldn't have to import from countries that he claims hate America Saudi Arabia Kuwait or other Arab or Muslim dominated countries who he claims are engaged in terrorists attacks against Americans.
Like other conservatives and the GOP he sees all Arab or Islamic countries as America's enemies and not just Al Qaeda and the Taliban and other extremists. He is basically fear mongering so that the oil and gas industry should be even further deregulated and given free rein to do their job without any restrictions.
Fear mongering faux conservationists / alternative energy sources -
Note how little T.Boone Pickens is concerned about the workers who were killed at The Deepwater Horizon explosion let alone any real concern for the damage created by the oil gushing out of the ocean floor to the environment .

Bjorn Carey editor of Popular Science magazine Says Oil Spill Cleanup May Cost BP $1 Billion: and the damage to the environment will be catastrophic .
Bloomberg — April 30, 2010 — April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Bjorn Carey, an editor at Popular Science magazine, talks with Bloomberg's Lori Rothman about the potential costs to BP Plc to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. U.S. Interior Department inspectors began boarding deep-water platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana mobilized the National Guard as an expanding oil slick that may rival the Exxon Valdez spill approached the coast. Pandora's Oil Well by Jill S. Schneiderman via Truthout.org, May 11, 2010
A critical distinction here is between an oil spill and a blowout. I tried to look up the definition of "oil spill" in Oil Gas Glossary.com and found the following: "Sorry, but we can't found (sic) the definition of Oil Spill in our Oil Gas Glossary." I don't mean to be disingenuous. I really just wanted to have confirmed my instinct that the vernacular meaning of spill, to flow from a confined space, implies a finite amount of oil. In contrast, the glossary told me that a blowout is an uncontrolled flow of oil, water, or gas from a well bored into the earth. It suggests to me a comparatively unlimited quantity of the black gold. When BP announced their discovery and termed it "giant," they meant to convey that the Tiber oilfield contained somewhere between four billion and six billion barrels of oil; this contrasts with a "huge" oilfield usually considered to contain 250 billion barrels of the stuff. Regardless of whether it's giant or huge, this Gulf of Mexico event is more than a spill.
What we have beneath the Gulf of Mexico is a gusher, folks. Only, unlike 1859, when drillers greeted gushers with celebratory hoots, in 2010, BP confronts the Mississippi Canyon blowout with a relief well - that's another well drilled near and into the well that is out of control. BP doesn't use the phrase, but drillers call the continuously spewing wells "wild wells." Forgive me, but it's hard to feel reassured by the company's assertion that they've begun to remedy the subsurface problem - oil escaping with great force from inside the earth to the planet's watery surface - in this manner.
I'm reminded of the Centralia, Pennsylvania, underground coal seam fire that has been burning since 1962. Like other coal seam fires, it may continue to burn underground for decades or even centuries until the fuel source is exhausted.
Oil companies play blame game in trying to avoid their responsibility for this disaster. Part of the blame should also go to successive US administrations which have in effect given up on any real tangible oversight of the Oil Industry and its activities.
Besides since the explosion the feds have granted a number of waivers and exemptions for oil companies drilling in the gulf.
Oil Spill Hearings In Congress: Companies Blame Each Other, Refuse Responsibility by H. Josef Hebert via Huffington Post, may 12, 2010
WASHINGTON — Congress called BP and its drilling partners to account Tuesday for a "cascade of failures" behind the spreading Gulf oil spill, zeroing in on a crucial chain of events at the deep-sea wellhead just before an explosion consumed the rig and set off the catastrophic rupture.
In back-to-back Senate inquiries, lawmakers chastised executives of the three companies at the heart of the massive spill over attempts to shift the blame to each other. And they were asked to explain why better preparations had not been made to head off the accident.
"Let me be really clear," Lamar McKay, chairman of BP America, told the hearing. "Liability, blame, fault – put it over here." He said: "Our obligation is to deal with the spill, clean it up and make sure the impacts of that spill are compensated, and we're going to do that."
By "over here," McKay meant the witness table at which BP, Transocean and Halliburton executives sat shoulder to shoulder. And despite his acknowledgment of responsibility, each company defended its own operations and raised questions about its partners in the project gone awry.
Lawmakers compared the calamity to some of history's most notorious mishaps from sea to space in the first congressional inquiry into the April 20 explosion and so-far unstoppable spill. In the crowded hearing room, eight young activists sat in quiet protest, with black T-shirts saying, "Energy Shouldn't Cost Lives." Several wore black painted spots near their eyes to symbolize tear drops made from oil.
and on the issue of the dumbing down of America; it appears many Americans on the right or those gullible enough to believe in outrageous unfounded conspiracy theories are willing to suspend all rationality and common sense to contrive a conspiracy between Obama and Enviomentalists or that Islamic or Korean Terrorists blew up the rig or that it is part of the agenda of The Imaginary Illuminati, Mason , New World Order strategy to take over the oil industry for its nefarious incomprehensible plans.
But the reality is that there is a conspiracy on the part of all parties including the oil and gas industry and the Obama administration & previous US administrations to talk tough, make phony apologies and mea culpas that is to say whatever they need to to lessen the anger against them. But at the end of the day in all likely hood everything will return to the status quo. Meanwhile behind the scenes it is just business as usual.

Oil Rig Blown Up On Purpose! Rush Limbaugh April 30

Katrina's Heck of a job Brownie Michael Brown in an interview with Chris Mathews suggests that the oil rig blowing up may have been a matter of sabotage by Obama supporters and then delayed action on purpose so the disaster should be worse to undermine the Oil Industry.

Rather than discussing the issue of oil drilling regulations and safety concerns Rush Limbaugh uses the tragedy of 11 dead employees and an environmental catastrophe to spout his insane conspiracy theories and his hatred of Obama.
Limbaugh Conspiracy theory : Eco-terrorists Conspiracy to blow up Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig in the Gulf.
Limbaugh to cover his own ass says he was just thinking out loud but is this really code words to his listeners for what Limbaugh actually believes is going on but he is reluctant to state it emphatically because of the political correctness police or fear of Obama.
But how many of his listeners and those listening to Fox News have gotten it all wrong and now believe that Obama is in cahoots with environmentalists who conspired to blow up the oil rig even though there is no evidence of any attack or sabotage of the oil rig. Many of Limbaugh's listeners believe Limbaugh was forced to backtrack on his statements due to the pressure from liberals and the Obama administration.
from Media Matters:
now add to this crazy talk Fox News claiming Obama delayed any action to stop the oil spill in order to use this as fodder against Big Oil:
No Credibility Left: Fox News Hits Bottom, Hosts Oil Spill Truther
and so it goes,
GORD.
