Unarmed Black Woman Shot and Killed by Chicago Police Officer Less Than a Month After Trayvon Martin Shooting

"Her death certificate says killed by police, but I feel like my sister was murdered," says Martinez Sutton, whose 22-year-old little sister, Rekia Boyd, was shot in the head by an off-duty Chicago detective on Wednesday, March 21. She died the following day at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Boyd's death comes less than a month after the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, leaving many troubled by the regularity with which unarmed people of color are shot, particularly by individuals claiming self-defense. And for those left grieving, the failure of authorities to hold the shooter accountable is the greatest injustice of all.

In the case of Boyd, Chicago police almost immediately echoed the account of the off-duty detective responsible for her death. Police say the officer in question drove up to a group of people in Chicago's Douglas Park around 1 AM on Wednesday, March 21, to investigate adisturbance near his home. He rolled down his window and asked them to quiet down at which point police say 39-year-old Antonio Cross pulled out a gun forcing the detective to open fire in self-defense, hitting Cross in the hand and striking Boyd in the head.

But neighbors, witnesses and Cross paint a vastly different picture. Cross told WGN News that he was unarmed and on his cell phone at the time of the shooting. When Cross asked why the officer shot him, he says the officer's response was, "I thought your phone was a gun." Cross has since been charged with a misdemeanor of aggravated assault.

Local news outlets initially reported that police failed to recover Cross' alleged weapon. However, Police would not confirm or deny this to Truthout and referred all further questions to the Chicago Independent Police Review Authority (IRPA), the outside body tasked with handling the investigation. The IPRA's Deputy Chief Administrator William Weeden declined to comment on any details as well, saying, "We cannot comment on an open and ongoing investigation."

Alderman Michael Chandler of the 24th Ward, where the incident took place, has added his voice to the growing concerns over police handling of the investigation, calling the police officer's account "thin and weak". According to Chicago's WBEZ, Chandler says residents who witnessed the shooting have complained to him that authorities have not bothered to contact them for eyewitness testimony.

 "A young person's life [has been] taken away and there is not one person that has been out on these streets to canvass the area to talk to any of these witnesses," Chandler told WBEZ. Furthermore, Chandler has requested that police properly examine neighbors' claims that they heard the officer tell a crowd, "What do I have to do around here to get some peace, quiet and respect? Shoot someone?" the day before the shooting.

 As a result, Sutton and Boyd have been independently canvassing the neighborhood where the shooting took place to hear what witnesses and neighbors have to say. According to Sutton, witnesses say the officer appeared intoxicated that night and was known by neighbors to have been drunk most of the time. Witnesses also say the off-duty officer approached the park in an unmarked car dressed in plain clothes while yelling belligerently at the crowd to "shut up."

More importantly, they say he never identified himself as a police officer. Sutton was most upset to hear from witnesses that his sister was left lying on the ground for a half an hour before she was taken to the hospital. "They even told her friends, 'get away from her or we'll lock you up' and they told Antonio Cross to 'shut up and sit down' and he was handcuffed to a pole while his hand was still bleeding from a gunshot wound," Sutton said.

Ahmed Ismael Hassan al-Samadi, 22, from the Shia village of Salmabad, was shot in the right thigh as he filmed teargas being fired on protesters in the village; an industrial area on the edge of Manama, Bahrain’s capital has died in hospital.

According to the local witnesses the 22 years old citizen journalist was shot by armed men, who were accompanying security forces in a civilian car. The men fired live rounds of ammunition at the crowd to suppress the protest.

Ahmed Ismael Hassan al-Samadi allegedly was targeted for carrying a video camera and filming the protests and violations committed by security forces.

But what can we expect Obama has done nothing to investigate human rights violations and police brutality committed with impunity against the members of the #OWS or Occupy Movement.

From what I understand in such situation if local authorities refuse to take action against police officers this could be turned over to the FBI or Department of Justice.

This will most likely never happen because Obama is fearful of how the fanatics in the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement and its media echo chamber would react.

As the saying goes amongst American diplomats and the CIA 'the leader may be a dictator and a tyrant but he is after all is said and done our Dictator'.

The US continues its unconditional support of military and police crack down on protesters and all critics of the government of Bahrain.

US police chief acting as consultant for the Bahraini Regime of course defends the police and military and says citizens of Bahrain get what he believes they deserve for daring to protest against the US and Saudi backed Regime.

As we saw in New York and Oakland and elsewhere the US police tend to also uses excessive amounts of Tear Gas and Pepper-spray on Occupy Wall St. Movements protesters.
So Bahrian is now learning from the best as it were in how to attack peaceful protesters and make it look like self-defense.

Short-term exposure to tear gas can cause pulmonary edema, adult-onset asthma, skin blistering and other serious conditions. Little is known about the long-term effects of the gas, in part because it is so rarely used on a long-term basis.

The minimal research that exists suggests tear gas could indeed be responsible for Zainab's blindness. Health departments in the United States warn that long-term exposure in a confined area - defined as more than one hour - can cause blindness. That's because tear gas can damage the optic nerve, which transmits information from the eye to the brain.

Abdulnabi took his daughter to India last year for medical treatment, and doctors there indeed attributed her blindness to a neurological problem. "The doctor there said it's not a problem of the eyes, but a problem of the brain, the nerves," he said.

Rights groups say that at least 25 Bahrainis have been killed by excessive tear gas inhalation - roughly one-third of the people killed since widespread unrest began here last February. (Some groups, like Physicians for Human Rights, put the number slightly higher.)

That figure does not count the three protesters killed after being shot with tear gas canisters. Nor does it include at least two potential cases where medical evidence was inconclusive, including activist Abbas Jaffar al-Shaikh, 26, who died from cancer last year. Studies on the cancer-causing effects of tear gas have been inconclusive.

The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry report, released in late November, faulted security forces for their "disproportionate use of tear gas for the dispersion of protesters." But the use of tear gas has only increased since then: 18 of the 25 deaths occurred after the report was released.

Many villages in Bahrain are now sprayed with the gas several times per week. At times it seems much of the country is affected: On a recent evening, Budaiya highway, the main east-west thoroughfare outside Manama, was blanketed with gas from clashes in several villages which sit along the road. Patrons sitting outside at a coffeeshop had to take shelter inside.

John Timoney, the former US police chief hired to consult with Bahrain's police force, blames the increased use of tear gas on what he described as increasingly violent protesters.

"There's a complaint that there's excessive tear gas," Timoney said. "What I've observed is a huge increase in the number of Molotov cocktails being thrown at police officers, night after night."

'They're trying to hide what they're doing'

But many people here accuse the police of shooting tear gas not just at protesters, but inside of private homes.

Several high-profile Bahrainis - including Nabeel Rajab, the head of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, and Ali Salman, the leader of Al Wefaq, the largest opposition party - have had their homes attacked in such a fashion.

"They deliberately shoot them inside the houses, because they want to create a problem between the protesters and the people who are not protesting," said one activist in Abu Saiba, a village outside of Manama. "They want to drive a wedge [between them]."

Residents in Bahrain's villages also say the government has started using a new chemical, CR gas, which is significantly more potent than the CS gas typically used against protesters. Physicians for Human Rights documented cases of patients with "atypical symptoms, including non-epileptic seizures and hysteria".

"The tear gas canisters, they used to be from the USA and India," said a protester in Sitra who asked that his name not be used. "But these new ones have no labels... they're trying to hide what they're using," he added, holding up an unmarked canister which carried no country of origin or other identifying information.

The allegations about CR gas, and more generally about any new chemical, cannot be independently verified. Several Bahraini police officers declined to comment on the chemical being used, and the health ministry has barred doctors from examining the content of tear gas canisters.

If the police are indeed using CR gas, again, little is known about the long-term effects. Anecdotal evidence suggests it can cause serious illness: The Egyptian riot police saturated downtown Cairo with CR gas for several days in November, and hundreds of protesters and journalists reported respiratory problems and other ailments.

Two American peace activists, Huwaida Arraf and Radhika Sainath, were arrested and detained this Saturday, while acting as Human Rights Observers in U.S.-backed Bahrain. Both are members of the Witness Bahrain initiative.

The Bahraini monarchy deported the two on Sunday, and they were flown — handcuffed behind their backs, and prohibited from using the bathroom, and from eating or drinking for the entire seven hour flight — to London.

According to Arraf, Bahrain appears to be removing all human rights activists and observers in the run-up to the one-year anniversary of the democratic uprising against the ruling monarchy:

[We] also were getting reports of journalists and human rights organization representatives being denied entry into the country in the lead-up to the first anniversary of the Bahrain revolution, and this caused great alarm, that the government was planning to escalate its oppression of the people.

A November 2011 report, conducted by an independent commission, and authorized by the Bahraini monarchy in an attempt to ease tensions, concluded that grave violations of human rights had been committed by government troops. These violations included disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force and firearms to repress the protests, and a systematic and deliberate policy of torture.

The panel confirmed that government forces murdered dozens of people during the protests, and five reform activists had been tortured to death while in custody. Other detainees were tortured by electric shock and by beatings with wires and hoses. Additionally, the panel found that activists were later targeted and fired from their jobs and universities and caused to lose their homes.

As the Arab Spring unfolded last year, protesters in the streets saw something startling about the tools of repression being used on them. The Humvees, tanks, helicopters were from the US government; the canisters of chemical agents used to attack them said, "Made in the USA."


The Obama Administration wants to sell 44 of these M1152A1B2 Armored High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) and other weapons to the dictators of Bahrain.
Bahrain, home to the US Fifth Fleet and close ally of Saudi Arabia, brutally suppressed the uprising among their citizens. More than 40 pro-democracy protesters were killed and thousands more were arrested and tortured. While speaking out loudly on Libya's brutality, the Obama administration remained largely silent on Bahrain.

Last fall the Obama administration announced plans to sell Bahrain $53 million worth of military weapons including bunker buster missiles, armored vehicles and wire-guided missiles. The Pentagon said at the time the sale "will improve Bahrain's capability to meet current and future armored threats. Bahrain will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense."

Congressional opposition to the sale forced Obama to delay the weapons transfer. Now, sources have leaked, the Obama administration is quietly moving forward with the arms sales to the Bahraini monarchy - despite their on-going human rights abuses.

The New York City Police Department is under mounting criticism after police shot dead an unarmed teenager inside his own home. Eighteen-year-old Ramarley Graham was shot at close range in his parents’ apartment in the Bronx after being chased into the house by narcotics detectives. Police said they found marijuana in the home and think Graham may have been trying to flush some down the toilet. The NYPD is coming under criticism not only for shooting Graham, but also for its broader stop-and-frisk policy, which critics say disproportionately targets people of color. On Monday, about 500 protesters rallied in the Bronx to condemn the police treatment of black youth. We speak to Jamel Mims, an organizer with the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, which is working to end the practice of "stop and frisk," and Nicholas Peart, who is serving as a witness in a federal class action lawsuit challenging "stop and frisk" as racist and unconstitutional

After months of no progress in the investigation of the death of 45-year-old Darrin Hanna, his relatives conducted an independent autopsy which brings new evidence that his death was a direct result of beating by North Chicago cops.

Darrin Hanna succumbed to injuries after getting beaten by six police officers who came in response to a domestic dispute 911 call. They beat the man and shocked him with a stun gun repeatedly for 20 minutes, even though he didn’t resist arrest.

Attorney Kevin O’Connor says that the autopsy undoubtedly proves that Hanna’s death was caused by severe beating. Some of the numerous injuries listed in the detailed report include multiple internal contusions and acute spleen damage. It is also most likely that the beating triggered sickle cell disease in Hanna’s body. “It’s commonly known that sickle cell can be brought on by trauma. And as result of that trauma he had multi-system organ failure and died, O’Connor said.

State Attorney Norm Wolfinger released a statement on Monday saying he is "outraged by the outright lies" contained in a letter written by the attorney of Trayvon Martin's parents, who are seeking a federal review in the case.

Martin family attorney Ben Crump said he is asking the U.S. Justice Department to review the investigation for possible interference by Wolfinger's office on the night Martin was shot to death by Neighborhood Watch leader George Zimmerman.

Crump sent a formal request to the Justice Department on Monday, saying, "within hours of the shooting in which Trayvon Martin was killed, Sanford Chief of Police Bill lee met with State Attorney Norm Wolfinger. We also believe that family members of shooter George Zimmerman were present at the police department. It was further revealed that State Attorney Norm Wolfinger and Chief Bill Lee overruled the recommendation of the lead homicide investigator, Chris Serino, who recommended that George Michale Zimemrman be arrested for manslaughter for killing Trayvon Benjamin Martin."

This is why the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which was contested by me and three other plaintiffs before Judge Katherine B. Forrest in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday, is so dangerous. This act, signed into law by President Barack Obama last Dec. 31, puts into the hands of people with no discernible understanding of legitimate dissent the power to use the military to deny due process to all deemed to be terrorists, or terrorist sympathizers, and hold them indefinitely in military detention. The deliberate obtuseness of the NDAA’s language, which defines “covered persons” as those who “substantially supported” al-Qaida, the Taliban or “associated forces,” makes all Americans, in the eyes of our expanding homeland security apparatus, potential terrorists. It does not differentiate. And the testimony of my fellow plaintiffs, who understand that the NDAA is not about them but about us, repeatedly illustrated this.

Alexa O’Brien, a content strategist and information architect who co-founded the U.S. Day of Rage, an organization created to reform the election process and wrest it back from corporate hands, was the first plaintiff to address the court. She testified that when WikiLeaks released 5 million emails from Stratfor, a private security firm that does work for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Marine Corps and the Defense Intelligence Agency, she discovered that the company was attempting to link her and her organization to Islamic radicals and websites as well as jihadist ideology.

Last August there was an email exchange between Fred Burton, Stratfor’s vice president for counterterrorism and corporate security and a former deputy director of the counterterrorism division of the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service, and Thomas Kopecky, director of operations at Investigative Research Consultants Inc. and Fortis Protective Services LLC. In that exchange, leaked Feb. 27 by WikiLeaks, Kopecky wrote: “I was looking into that U.S. Day of Rage movement and specifically asked to connect it to any Saudi or other fundamentalist Islamic movements. Thus far, I have only hear[d] rumors but not gotten any substantial connection. Do you guys know much about this other than its US Domestic fiscal ideals?”?

But that changed quickly. Stratfor, through others working in conjunction with the FBI, soon linked U.S. Day of Rage to al-Qaida and other terrorist groups.

In early September, U.S. Day of Rage, which supported the Sept. 17 call to occupy Wall Street, received Twitter messages that falsely accused it of being affiliated with terrorist groups. The messages came from a privately owned security and intelligence contractor, Provide Security, managed by Thomas Ryan, who works for U.S. military and government agencies, and Dr. Kevin Schatzle, a former FBI, Secret Service and New York City Police Department counterterrorism agent who is on the advisory board of a private intelligence firm that sells technology to profile and interrogate terrorism suspects. On Sept. 1 U.S. Day of Rage received three private, direct Twitter messages that read:

“Now you are really in over your head with this. Muslims from an Afghanistan Jihad site have jumped in. ...”

“You seem peaceful, but #Anonymous will tarnish that reputation and FAST! They plan to hack NYPD and Banks for #OccupyWallStreet with #RefRef.”

“Just a heads up. I watched your training videos, but do you realize the #Anonymous relationship/infiltration will cause you MANY problems.”

On Oct. 14, 2011, Provide Security’s Ryan published an article—“The Email Archive of #OccupyWallStreet Movement,” on the Andrew Breitbart Presents Big Government website page—that tied U.S. Day of Rage to al-Qaida and other terrorist groups. Ryan said in the article that he had “recruited other people to help U.S. begin the collection of data” from social media sites that included U.S. Day of Rage. The article goes on:

On August 10, 2011, the hacker group, “Anonymous” announced that it would join the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. That’s what sparked my interest in monitoring #OccupyWallStreet.

I reached out to a colleague and asked if he would be interested in studying the protest with me. At first, it seemed disorganized, and we believed it would only be a few hundred protestors.

As we engaged in monitoring its growth, we recruited other people to help us begin the collection of data available via social media. We began mapping out key players, and monitored Anonymous’s efforts to organize protests in the San Francisco Bay area public transportation system (#opBART) in order to detect patterns of key influences.

Then, at the end of August, we were alerted by a fellow researcher that information about USDoR (U.S. Day of Rage, to which Occupy Wall Street is connected) had been posted on Shamuk and Al-Jihad, two Al-Qaeda recruitment sites. We began to take the “Occupy” protest more seriously, and dedicated more time to researching and monitoring.

Days later, Anonymous announced that it would be releasing its new DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) tool. Because of the Al-Qaeda posting, we contacted the New York Field Office of the FBI so they could investigate the potential threat. From that point on, we decided we needed to include the Human Element of Intelligence (HUMINT), and to infiltrate the protestors to map their ties to Anonymous, and to the postings on Shamuk and Al-Jahad.

Meanwhile Hilary Clinton says little about human rights violations while visiting Saudi Arabia. The oppressed peoples of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain get no sympathy from The Secretary of State or from President Obama.
Saudi Arabia,s monarchy and its theocracy is just as bad as it were as Iran when it comes to human Rights and civil rights and the rights of women.
Obama regime is more concerned with encircling Iran than in the welfare of citizens in the region.
After all it is Saudi Arabia backed by the USA which has sent in troops to crush the pro-democray pro-reform movement in Bahrain.
And yet many so called liberals in the USA refuse to condemn Obama's policies in the Middle East and Africa.
So all their blather about human rights, civil rights or the rights of women in these nations has just been atalking Point to convince Americans that the USA in this region to support reform.
The Saudis and Israelis and the USA and its allies are beating the war drums against Iran even though Iran is not an imminent threat to the USA or the West or to the Saudis or israelis.
The Israelis have a nuclear weapons stockpile of at least 200 to 300 nuclear weapons plus one of the best trained and armed militaries in the region.
If Iran fired upon Israel or Saudi Arabia the retaliation by these two nations would be devastating for Iran.
No matter what Americans might have been told Iran had nothing to do with 9/11 terrorist attacks and it did not support Saddam or The Taliban.
It is the Saudis who are the ones who have bank roled various terrorist organizations including the 9/11 attackers.
It is the Israelis who have shown no respect for the sovereignty of its neighbors and has no respectfor the human rights or civil rights of the Palestinians or Arabs or Persians (Iranians)within or outside the Israeli's illegal borders.

Bahrain the forgotten protesters

The Obama White House supports brutal anti-Democratic regime of Bahrain . Meanwhile the Obama administration erroneously claims to be on the side of pro-democracy pro-reform movements in the Middle East.
But we have seen how President Obama has allowed local police forces in the USA brutally crackdown on the Occupy protesters from NewYork to Chicago to Oakland.
The president of the united States and the members of the Congress and Senate and the US military supposedly swore an oath to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and yet the Bill of Rights and the Constitution have been stomped upon by the Riot Police across the USA.

So if peaceful protesters in the USA can be beaten, pepper-sprayed why should we expect the US government and president Obama show any concern for the pro-reform movements in Bahrain or Egypt or elsewhere except when it suits America's long term agenda.
The USA and other Western nations are against oppressive regimes only if they are not cooperating and doing the West' bidding.

The USA and Western Nations in reality have little interest or motive to support pro-reform movements in the Middle East or Africa. They took out and murdered Qaddafi in large part because he was in favor of policies which would be beneficial to his people and not necessarily favor Western interests .

But Qaddafi was also guilty of trying to unite more African nations to stand up for their people and demand they be treated in a just manner by Western Nations and by nations in the region allied to the USA and the West.

Protesters attacked in Bahrain, rights group says By Mohammed Jamjoom, CNN

(CNN) -- Government forces attacked protesters in Bahrain Saturday, according to a human rights group.
"Security forces have spent the day attacking protests in different parts of the country," the Bahrain Center for Human Rights said in a statement. "Many serious injuries were reported, including a 15-year-old boy who was hit directly in the arm with a teargas canister."

The group also said its president, Nabeel Rajab, was arrested before a planned march in Manama that was to be a show of solidarity with Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, one of Bahrain's most prominent human rights activists.

Al-Khawaja was sentenced to life in prison in June for his role in the anti-government demonstrations that swept through Bahrain a year ago. He has been on hunger strike for more than 50 days in protest of his sentence.

On Friday, Amnesty International issued a statement calling on Bahraini authorities to release al-Khawaja amid fears that he is at risk of death.

A member of al-Khawaja's family told CNN they were informed that al-Khawaja had been taken to a hospital due to his deteriorating condition but were not allowed to visit with him.

CNN could not independently confirm the claims of attacks on protesters, but the Bahrain Interior Ministry confirmed the arrest of Rajab. The ministry said in a tweet that Rajab was arrested for "calling (for) participation in unauthorized rally & illegal gathering."

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old protester died early Saturday after a shooting that the main Shiite opposition party Al-Wefaq blamed on neighborhood militias loyal to the Bahraini regime.

The victim, identified by police as Ahmed Ismael Abdulsamad, died of a gunshot wound to the thigh, the country's chief of public security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, said in a statement released by the Interior Ministry.

MIAMI, April 1 (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters gathered in a downtown bayfront park on Sunday demanding the arrest of the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin, in central Florida a month ago.

Civil rights leaders were joined by Martin's parents who were making their first major public appearance in the family's home city since a news conference on the steps of the Baptist Church where the funeral for their son was held last month.

Sunday's protest came a day after one of the largest demonstrations yet in Sanford, the central Florida town where Martin was killed.

Rick Santorum is disturbed by the fact that Obama wants to ease any tension between the USA and Russia so he can reconfigure the nuclear defense shield in Europe to suit today's geopolitical realities. By doing so Obama seems to be hoping to reduce America's and Russia's nuclear stockpiles that is their WMDs. Such a move might reassure other nations that the US is not intent on World Domination.

Trayvon Martin case 911 call: Screams not George Zimmerman's, 2 experts say

The voice heard crying for help on a 911 call just before Trayvon Martin was shot to death was not that of George Zimmerman, according to two forensic voice identification experts, one of whom told MSNBC on Sunday that he believes the evidence is strong enough to use in court.

"The tests concluded that it's not the voice of Mr. Zimmerman," Tom Owen, of Owen Forensic Services LLC and chair emeritus for the American Board of Recorded Evidence, told MSNBC.
Asked if he thought such tests would be admissible in court, Owen said "yes" and noted he had recently used similar testing in testimony at a Connecticut murder case that involved 911 call.

But stupid me I thought the Cold War with The Evil Empire more or less came to end after the Berlin Wall was torn down. But I guess the taking down of the wall and the move towards a more democratic and capitalistic society in Russia is some sort of public relations stunt and a ruse while Russia in fact is still planing world domination ???

We should I guess be thankful for their comments reminding Americans and all Western Nations that it seems we are still at war with the Soviet Union???
Actually this is just more insanity on the part of the loons in the Conservative Movement in America.
What Obama is talking about is re-configuring and integrating the European, Eastern European and Russian defense systems to meet today's political realities that the real enemies of America are nations in the Middle East such as Iran ,Syria and certain African nations and China and North Korea etc.
Obama appears to believe if such alliances can be set up thereby still protecting America and its allies that he can then begin a process not of getting rid of all nuclear weapons but scaling down.
The USA itself has enough war heads to kill off the entire population of the Earth several times over.
Of course the conservatives tend to favor the notion of MAD: Mutually Assured Destruction.
And of course for those on the Religious Right such as Santorum believe that if a Global nuclear war occurred this would be because that was God's plan in the same way the deaths of over a million Iraqis and of some 7,000 US troops is also part of God's plan like Hurricane Katrina or the 9/11 terrorist attack or the deaths of innocent civilians murdered by an armed American Drone in Afghanistan or Iraq,or Pakistan or Yemen or Libya.

Seeking to inject new life into his struggling presidential bid, Rick Santorum on Thursday took his campaign to Jelly Belly headquarters in California, where he delivered an homage to famed jelly-bean aficionado Ronald Reagan as well as a harsh critique of President Obama, whose foreign policy the former Pennsylvania senator argued has been harmful to the United States.

Obama’s policies are “destructive for our economy, destructive for our reputation around the world and for our national security,” Santorum told supporters at the Fairfield, Calif., headquarters of the jelly-bean manufacturer.

A presidential campaign that has been largely waged on economic grounds shifted to the foreign policy sphere this week after Obama was caught by an open microphone telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Seoul that he needed “space” until after the November election in dealing with the issue of missile defense in Europe.

The contenders for the GOP presidential nod quickly seized upon the episode, arguing that Obama displayed weakness in dealing with Russia and questioning what other matters the president would wield new “flexibility” after the election.

Santorum on Thursday took aim at Obama for “whispering off-camera to the president of Russia” about missile defense, an issue that he said was ironic given Reagan and his legacy with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

“Ronald Reagan didn’t whisper to Gorbachev, ‘Give me some flexibility,’” Santorum said. “He walked out of Iceland and said, ‘You either do this, or we have no deal.’”

Obama had asked Medvedev to “give me a little space, buddy ... then I’ll throw some other of our allies under the bus, in order to get his dream, his dream,” Santorum said.

“And what is that dream?” the former Pennsylvania senator asked. “His dream, in this case, is a nuclear-free world, and he stands here proclaiming that we need to reduce weapons complements between the United States and Russia.”

Santorum also argued that the situation is worse in Afghanistan, where Obama is “buying time” by subscribing to an arbitrary timeline and therefore giving U.S. enemies the one thing they need to survive: Hope.

“Of all of the failings of this administration, of all of the failings, perhaps the greatest is on national security — and folks, that’s saying something,” Santorum said.

One can only hope that he and the GOP are not that crass or is this a reflection of what the Tea Party gang thinks of Obama.
We know that during the 2008 election campaign that racist slurs about Obama were common along with subtler forms of racism including dogwhistle racist code calling Obama "Not A real American" or "Not one of Us" or having been born in Kenya not the USA or being a radical African-American who hung out with socialists, communists, gangsters, domestic terrorists and the New Black Panthers and of being a secret Muslim on the side of Al Qaeda and of being anti-Christian.
All of this is a load of nonsense. Obama is a Christian American who favors the capitalist system but believes that certain programs such as comprehensive government sponsored health care  program is just another way in which in a civilized decent society the people agree to take care of their fellow citizens. Of course Conservatives believe that America is made up of 300 million individuals each of them at war with the rest as they work and scheme to make themselves rich while the rest do without. Governments are supposed to be a means by which those in power or who are wealthy can not trample on the rights, liberties and well being of their fellow citizens.
When basic healthcare or long term health issues becomes so costly that only the well off can afford them then the so called level playing field becomes just another bit of empty rhetoric to pacify the less well off.
