Religious Right & Conservatives Upset About Obama Speech - U.S. Ugly Truths ? Update on Dr. Tiller Murder

UPDATE: 1:57 AM June 7, 2009.

Negligence on the part of law enforcement & the FBI & under The Bush Regime
The Bush Administration chose not to prosecute anti-Abortionist & Pro-Life activists under the existing Federal Law Face Act of Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act of 1993.
Roeder had a long history of breaking these Federal Laws but was not arrested due to Bush Administration's decision not to enforce the law. So much for Bush's belief in the Rule of Law.
Tiller case goes to federal lawsuit case- Rachel Maddow -Longer Version

And it appears Roeder was involved not only with Operation Rescue but also with white Separatist groups & Christian Identity :

A Brief History of the Radical, Violent Right: How Racist Hate Groups Joined Up with Abortion Terrorists By James Ridgeway, MotherJones.com. Posted June 6, 2009.

Alleged murderer Scott Roeder was once a white separatist before he became an anti-choice zealot -- many others have followed the same deadly path.

The revelation that Scott Roeder, the alleged murderer of Dr. George Tiller, belonged to an anti-government, white separatist group called the Montana Freemen might seem like an unlikely twist. After all, such groups are generally thought of as either indifferent to the issue of abortion or actively enthusiastic about its potential for reducing the nonwhite population. As it turns out, however, the journey from radical racialist to anti-abortionist isn't as unusual as you might think.

...In 1996, Roeder was arrested in Topeka after sheriff deputies stopped his car because it had no license plate. Instead, the Star reported, "it bore a tag declaring him a 'sovereign' and immune from state law. In the trunk, deputies found materials that could be assembled into a bomb." Roeder was convicted, sentenced to two years probation, and told to stay away from far-right groups. A state appeals court subsequently overturned the conviction.

Roeder and the Freemen belonged to a little-recognized nativist political movement that began in the early 20th century, flared up periodically, and then ripped through the American heartland during the farm depression of the mid-1980s. This movement was often called "the posse," after a core group named the Posse Comitatus. Like any political movement, it consisted of a myriad of shifting entities that appeared and disappeared. But even though the names of the groups often changed, they all held tightly to the notion that the true white sovereigns, who had rightfully been given this land by God, were being threatened by race traitors "inferior races" creeping across the borders from Mexico and lands farther south. A favorite posse image was a drawing of a man hanging by the neck from a tree on a hill. Below in the distance stands a group of armed men. A sign is scrawled on the drawing. It says "The posse."

So Does President Obama actually believe that he can have some sort of dialogue with these hate-filled extremists.

----------------------------------------------

In Obama's speech at Cairo he said a number of things which some were pleased to hear but U.S. Conservatives & the Republican party & the Religious Right were not pleased with. No matter what he does there are those who are going to criticize him and accuse him of whatever things they can think of from being too liberal, too far to the left , a socialist , a danger to the country , as going too far or that he he is too partisan , too critical of the former Bush Regime, or as a disloyal American for daring to criticize America's past behavior or policies , of not being tough enough on terrorists or not being loyal enough to Israel & on & on.

And those of us who are not conservative or who don't believe in American Exceptionalism we have other concerns.

If Obama is serious about a two state solution for Israelis & Plestinians it is not just Islamic or Palestinian Extremist he must deal with but also the extremist Settlers Movement & the Israeli government which protects them who believe Israel should not give up one inch of land & in fact they believe that Israel should expand its borders to that of Greater Israel or Eratz Israel as promised to the Israelites by Jehovah.

While Obama talked about peace & reconciliation & demanded that Palestinians & Arabs not resort to violence he did not then offer that from now on America would stop its wanton killing of thousands in Iraq, Afghanistan & Pakistan. He made no claims to stop America's expansion of its Empire. He said the Killing of one innocent person was the equivalent of killing all of humankind. So what about the innocents abused & tortured by the US in its desire for revenge for 9/11 or to get false confessions to support its illegal & immoral war in Iraq. Does he not see that every time his government with its allies kills innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan this leads to more resistance & resentment on the part of those peoples who are seen as mere collateral damage. Does he not yet understand that it is his country which has always supported Israel unconditionally which has led the Israelis to commit one War Crime after another. The Israelis even now are still treating the Palestinians as expendable subhumans as they once were treated by the NAZI & throughout most of European & Western history .

Why if Obama is so devoted to peace not mention the slaughter of innocents in Gaza. Yes he is right the bombing of civilians on a bus is reprehensible but so is the attack on villages by unmanned drones or the dropping of White Phosphorus on schools & hospitals in Gaza by the Israelis or by the Americans on the city of Fallujah. Is he not yet ready to relinquish America's myth that it does all that it can not to harm innocent civilians in its imperial wars .

Let's just look at an example of this conservative & Religious Right critique of Obama's Cairo speech.

PRUDEN: 'Inner Muslim' at work in Cairo by Wesley pruden,at Washington TimesJune 5, 2009

"America, unlike the president, is guilty of hubris, arrogance and cant. All that must change. "Change" is what the smooth-talking Chicago messiah says he is all about. "Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail," he told the Muslim elites Thursday at Cairo U. "So whatever we think of the past, we must not be prisoners of it." It's not "a world order" that elevates America, but events. No other country is as generous, as forgiving, as willing to sacrifice blood and bone when the world calls for help. If not America, who? Hasn't the president heard? "

What a load of horse manure. Is the writer serious or being facetious . Did Mr. Pruden never hear of the term "The Ugly American"- it is a reference to especially in the 1950s when America started to interfere with the domestic politics of other countries without any regard for what the people of the targeted nation needed or desired. The American belief seemed to be that Democracy & liberty was okay for America but not for other nations. This was especially true if a nation didn't put America's interests before its own.So they over threw the popular democratically elected governments of Iran & Guatemala to be replaced by American backed puppet regimes. Thousands were imprisoned & tortured & abused in both countries for daring to criticize the respective governments.

In Vietnam the Americans rather than backing the aspirations of the people they sided with a corrupt & brutal regime. America was bound to stop any policies which they felt smacked of socialism & in so doing they would prevent these policies even if it meant the death of every citizen of Vietnam. Two million or more Vietnamese died in America's disastrous war with a loss of some sixty thousand Americans. The war expanded to include the carpet bombing of Cambodia which led to the crushing of all moderate political parties til only the Khamer Rouge were left standing who then went on a killing spree.

In Chile the popular democratically government of Salvador Allende was overthrown by an American planned & backed military coup which led to over twenty years of tyranny & oppression. Why is it Americans like Mr. Pruden can not see the darker side of America's interventionism. Is it because of America's second rate educational system or a dumbed-down media which spoon feeds Americans on American propaganda of exceptionalism.

Why are the conservatives & the media in America going apoplectic over the fact that Obama would talk about his African & Islamic heritage or that he would speak a few words in Arabic or speak positively about the Quran or talk about the positive contributions of the Islamic cultures to Western Civilization. Of course many Americans of this ilk believe there was little or no important history before the founding of the United States as a country. In the same way they don't want to know about ancient civilizations which preceded the Roman Empire or the American Empire. They act as if America sprang out of the earth as if in an act of divine creation. Further they tend to overlook a few uncomfortable historical facts such as that in order to conquer America the Americans went on a genocidal rampage to kill the already existing Native American & even to destroy every last vestige of what was an advanced culture.

Without the help of the native populations most of the early settlers would not have survived. In return for their help the settlers massacred millions of native Americans who had already been decimated by the diseases the white settlers carried for which the natives had no immunity.

So Americans from the very beginning believed that some men were more equal than others . In fact they claimed that Native Americans were some lower form of soulless beasts who was not capable of being educated or of developing some form of sophisticated society.

Once they ran out of Natives to badger & enslave they brought millions of slaves from Africa to work like beast on their plantations. Again Americans justified this by convincing themselves that these slaves were subhuman and that even their speech was no better than an animals. Actually they spoke in their native tongues which were the equal to any other language. Many of them had at least some rudimentary education, some were Muslims or even Christians others had their own religious beliefs. But how can one believe that enslaving others is the Will of God. Well now of course these Christians are unable to look at another's religion without their own prejudices getting in the way. For who is to say that this religion or another is better or is the true path to God. The Religious fanatic not only knows their own religion is the true path but that all others are not only false but are basically demonic or evil. This the Fundamentalist Christian or Islamic Fundamentalist or Jewish Fundamentalist etc. believes & claims that they know the Will of God & must impose that will on the whole world on all nations & peoples by proselytizing or by the sword or the rifle & if the world resists it would be better to destroy the world by a Nuclear War if necessary if this is what the voice of God whispers in their ear.

and Wesley Pruden argues that :

"Big talkers don't know when to stop when they're on a rhetorical roll because they can't remember which facts are actually facts and which "facts" they're making up. Mr. Obama even attributed the Golden Rule, from the teachings of Christ, to "every religion."'

as for his suggestion that "The Golden Rule" is unique to Christianity or Jesus Mr. Pruden is wrong .

The Golden Rule or Golden Mean goes back to at least 2000 BCE according to the written record - it was the basis of many religions . But of course we have to forgive any American Christian because "They know not what they do" or say since they believe they have no need to study the history of the world beyond that of America's history. And even the American history they read about or study is enshrouded by national myths & propaganda which they are unable to see beyond. Other nations & history of the world is of no interest to many Americans. In the same way they are told that the study of other peoples religions is a waste of time since all other religions are false & are in fact demonic & anti-Christian & anti-American. He may even believe there no major world religions before Judaism & Christianity. But Buddhism Taoism , Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, the Egyptian Religion all for instance predate Christianity.

and so at the website Religious Tolerance .org there is a section dedicated to the Golden Rule as it is found in the writings in various religions & philosophies going back to at least 2000 BCE. The idea of the Golden Rule may go back even further than suggested by the written record but was only passed on orally from teacher to student for centuries before this date.

Obama Calls War In Iraq " A War of Choice " & Calls For Two State Solution For Israel & Palestine & More

Obama's speech in Cairo Egypt - Rachel Maddow points out that Obama says a number of things which American Presidents usually avoid - Obama uses his speech as a teachable moment -

Uses his middle name Hussein to appeal to the Islamic audience though conservatives & Republicans during the election campaign used his middle name as a smear along with the fact that his father was from Kenya & a Muslim and that Obama lived in a predominately Islamic country- The conservatives then & now use these facts as a smear & claim that Obama is a Muslim or a "secret Muslim" as an attack on his character. The bigots like Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Fox News & others are still making these attacks on Obama. There are still those who make the erroneous & outlandish claim that Obama 's birth certificate showing he was born in Hawaii is a forgery & that he is not therefore an American citizen & should be removed from office.

In the same way Karl Rove & his parrots in the Republican Party & the Conservative Movement of rich white men claim Obama is UnAmerican since he is a secret Terrorists because they say and they are wrong about this that Obama hangs around Domestic Terroists such as Bill Ayers. They also argue Obama is a socialists or even a Communists because he wants to raise taxes on the super-wealthy or because Heaven Forbid he wants to improve Health Care System for all Americans & not just the wealthy. Most European countries & Canada & Britain have Universal Health Care & no one calls those countries Communist. But to many conservative Americans it is supposedly in their view ok for people to die or to go bankrupt because Health Care is so costly in America.

But what can we say Obama is president of a country in which there is a significant number of powerful people & special interests with no interest in Social & Economic Justice.Just listen to these mainly angy people like Hannity, Ann Coulter , Laura Ingraham , Lou Dobbs etc. who have no sympathy or Empathy for the average American citizen. So they use their bull pulpits & TV broadcasts & the Internet to spew their venom, their ignorance & propaganda believing that the American people are too ill-informed to catch on to their propaganda & chicanery.

Israel must accept the creation of an autonomous Palestinian
That the Palestinians must accept the legitimacy of the state of Israel
condemns Israel's settlements
denounces Arab attacks
calls Iraq war as a war of choice
admits the US overthrew the legitimate government of Iran in 1953
dismisses 9/11 conspiracy theories
attacks Holocaust denials
criticizes Arab Democracies
admits to US torture as a mistake

Rachel Maddow: The 3rd Rail - Obama's game-changing speech in Egypt

06_04_09 visit: http://firedoglake.com

Obama should also be praised for making the observation that the Shoah (Holocaust) was the culmination of centuries of anti-Semitism in Christian Europe (Christendom)promulgated primarily by the Church.

So he agrees with most historians that Hitler didn't spring freshly from the earth as the first person in European history to preach anti-Semitism as many argue especially Conservative Christians & Christian Apologists who claim that Anti-Semitism was a minor problem before the rise of the NAZIS. The Jewish Ghettos existed all over Europe & Pogroms and massacres of Jews were common to almost all European Nations. Jews were kicked out of various nations at one time or another.

as I have argued in previous posts Anti-Semitism was embedded in Christianity from its very beginnings or at least since the writings & preachings of Paul of Tarsus infused Christian teachings & doctrines with a dismissive attitude towards Judaism & placed the blame of Jesus death on the Jews & said they were to be cursed forever for Deicide . Anti-Semitism among Christians is found embedded in the New Testament & in the writings of the early Church fathers to the founding of the Roman Christian Church which continued into the Crusades & the Holy Inquisition down unto the present time-anyone who has studied the history of Western Civilization & the History of Europe & of Christianty knows this to be the case. And anti-Semitism didn't end with the Reformation & Martin Luther's rebellion against the Church of Rome but continued as part of the Protestant Creed so it was not just a prejudice of the Catholic Church.

During the Christian Crusades which many Christian apologists erroneously see as some glorious moment for Europe & Christendom but in fact was an unnecessary war of aggression to attempt to wipe out Islam & more often than not was also seen as an excuse to kill off so called Christian Heretics & the Jewish populations in Europe & in the Holy Land.

The Reasons for the Crusades had more to do with conquest & looting the rich lands of the Middle East than with some Holy Mission. The Pope found it convenient & politic to send the squabbling nobles of to fight far from Rome so that they were less of a threat to Rome & the Papacy. There were those who fought believing as the Pope had told them that if they were to die in a crusade they would be granted remissions of all their sins & would get into Heaven or Paradise without having to wait in Purgatory .( Now isn't this quite similar to what some Islamic extremist teach that those who die in a Jihad in battle or as a suicide bomber they will go to Paradise & get their reward of 70 virgins The Vikings believed if they died honorably they would go to Valhalla to live with the Gods forever 7 who is to say which is right or wrong maybe as in Kurt Vonnegut's play Happy Birthday Wand June you get to go to Heaven to play on God's Bowling Team )

The Inquisitions did not just take place in Spain but spread across Europe killing hundreds of thousands of Europeans most of them Christians accused of Heresy. The God-Fearing paranoid deluded European Christians also believed that besides the Heretics & the Evil Jews & Muslims they also had to battel those whom they called witches whom they believed had been possessed by demonic forces or who took Satan as their True God and so they had to be killed as well. All in all Millions were murdered for being Heretics, Jews , or Muslims or being in league with the Devil. This is the sad blood soaked history of Christianity. Of course when Christians were not out hunting Heretics & Witches they were killing each other over pieces of property over land & wealth.

What is disturbing is that those Christians who are now most adamant about unconditional support for Israel is not based upon respect , understanding or love of Judaism or of the Jewish People but rather on their own twisted interpretation of the Bible in which they claim Israel & America both have a major part to play in the End-Times or the Last Days before the Second Coming of Jesus. And at some point in these End-Times the Israelites having returned to Israel will rebuild the Temple offer up sacrifices once again to Jehovah.

According to Evangelicals Christian Fundamentalist almost all the Israelites or Jews will be wiped out except for a remnant of some 144,000 who will be converted to Christianity & therefore will not just be spared but will be saved along with all of the True Believing Christians . Meanwhile around the Globe all those who have not been re-born & baptised in Jesus Name will be obliterated. That is the time of fire & brimstone raining from the sky ie Nuclear War resulting in rivers of blood. And these Christians think this is a good thing & if they can they will do all in their powere to hasten the End-Times if that means all out war with the Heretical Nations or those Nations which pray to other so called False Gods then so be it.

Obama -People "yearn to speak their mind"
( unfortunately Israel is now trying to suppress any Israeli citizen from speaking about the expulsion & the killing of many Palestinians by Israelis in the act of creating their state. The Kinneset is also trying to pass a law demanding all Israeli citizens to qualify as citizens take an oath of loyalty to the State of Israel as a Jewish State which was granted to its people by God .

also note that Obama mentions the role of the US in overthrowing the Democratic government of Iran in the 1950s

This is the first time any American President has admitted that America has ever been involved in such a criminal activity as the overthrow of a democratically elected government . The main reason for the overthrow was that the government was attempting to take control of its natural resources & ensure a more equitable deal for the people of Iran. Of course Americans have always believed that only corporations have a right to natural resources & the people be damned as Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or the likes of Newt Gingrich would say. That government was then replaced by the Brutal anti-democratic Shah of Iran who had made his Faustian deal with the US & Britain.

For all the talk of change & a new beginning in the Middle East some would argue that Obama is not really going to change its imperialistic role in the Mideast or elsewhere.

For all his apologies to the Islamic world Obama is going to continue America's disastrous policies in Afghanistan & Pakistan while leaving a large US military presence in Iraq to ensure Iraq knows it is now part of the US Empire & will not permit the Iraqi people meaningful sovereignty.Iraq some would argue is now a vassal state just as the US wants to make Afghanistan & Pakistan into vassal states.

Meanwhile President Obama still doesn't want to deal with or even accept the fact that the United States has committed in its so-called Global War On Terror "War Crimes " & " Crimes against Humanity ".

The US knowingly made false claims about WMDs & connections between Al Qaeda & Saddam in order to justify its unnecessary war of Aggression against the Sovereign Nation of Iraq which it then proceeded to wantonly destroy leaving the country in ruin with a million dead & three million refugees. The US was also involved in the abuse & or torture of tens of thousands of prisoners in Iraq & Afghanistan. The US also used banned WMDs such as White Phosphorus on civilian populations etc. When America atones & pays the legal price for these crimes then the world can begin to trust the words of an American president once again.

If Obama really wants to prove to the world that his words have real meaning & are not just a lot of dazzling rhetoric then he show that he & America are mature enough to face up to their misdeeds & its culpability & its willingness to face the consequences. If America is as morally strong as Obama claims then those responsible for these "War Crimes" & "crimes Against Humanity " must be forced to face the consequences of their actions. A special prosecutor should be appointed or selected & given the power to investigate allegations to discover the truth wherever it may lead . This means that those within the Bush administration if found culpable should be tried & if personnel in the US military or the CIA or members of Congress are found culpable they too should be made to face trial. If Obama wanted to get to the truth he could set up a special prosecutor or get some International legal body such as the World Court or Criminal court to take on the task to avoid any appearance of partisan politics.

Domestic Terrorist Scott Roeder Connected to "Operation Rescue" & the Hate Mongering Pro-Life Movement

Is Obama too busy to deal with Domestic Terrorism or just doesn't want to make a big deal about what he claims is not Domestic Terrorism but rather merely the tragic murder of one man.

Is Obama too afraid of the Religious Right & the Republicans and the Fundamentalist Christians to call this murder what it is " an assassination " & an act of Domestic Terrorism which was fueled by the out of control Right to Life Movement.

Evidence Connecting Scott Roeder to Operation Rescue Found in Roder's Car

Rachel Maddow unveils video evidence from KMBC TV in Kansas City of a note found in Scott Roeder's car at the time of his arrest for the murder of Dr. Geroge Tiller that read "Cheryl Op Rescue" and then a phone number. Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue, has admitted to having several conversations with Roeder about Dr. Tiller.

Protecting abortion providers or speaking out against the Violence encouraged by the Pro-Life Movement & Conservatives who defend Domestic Terrorism against people they don't agree with - another issue Obama is afraid to deal with - add to other issues Gay Rights Gay Marriage Don't Ask Don't tell or Torture or shutting down Gitmo , the use of Military Tribunals As Show Trials , continuing the insane Global War on Terror , refusing to prosecute the Bush Regime Criminals - , continuing warrantless surveillance & keeping thousands imprisoned in inhumane conditions in Iraq & Afghanistan , continuing the Drone Wars inciting the Pashtuns -expanding the American Empire

GRITtv: Domestic Terror and The Death of Dr. Tiller

Fox News Complicit In George Tiller's Death

On MSNBC's "Countdown" Monday night, Keith Olbermann argued that Fox News was partially responsible for the murder of Dr. George Tiller. He played clips of the network depicting Tiller as a baby killer and a Nazi, among other things. Olbermann called on viewers to not patronize businesses that show Fox News and to encourage their friends not to watch the channel -- "not so much a boycott here as a quarantine." The host pledged to take the first step and "retire the name, the photograph, and the caricature" of Bill O'Reilly from his own show.

The murder of Dr. George Tiller has opened up a Pandora's box for pro-lifers, giving rise to all sorts of troublesome questions about the culpability of lenient law enforcement and the movement itself. ..Pandagon's Amanda Marcotte, who got her mitts on a disturbing antiabortion activist handbook from Justice for All that lays bare some of the lies, deception and cynical manipulation that might have led to Tiller's assassination. It's now online for your reading enjoyment displeasure.

Activists are instructed that when confronting targets they are to pretend that they're A-OK with contraception. That way, their mark will let his or her guard down and think that, you know, there's actually a rational, fact-based discussion to be had. The truth, of course, is that the manual goes on to arm activists with medical misinformation that they can spread about birth control.

see the Anti-Choice Handbook pdf on line: Abortion From Debate to Diologue: A Justice For All Exhibit Guide by Steve Wagner & David Lee which promotes lies, misinformation deceit & propaganda to hide the fact that those who are pro-life are against all abortions & and see abortion as Genocide and that they are also against Birth control & for the most part don't care about the woman who decides to have an abortion - their only concern is the Unborn child - Their arguments are based upon Fundamentalists beliefs and are absolutists

and see Could Tiller's murder have been prevented? Broadsheet by Tracy Clark-Flory, Salon.com, June 3, 2009

Here's a situation where police must be wishing for a do-over: The suspect in Dr. George Tiller's murder was caught vandalizing a clinic the day before Sunday's shooting. Scott Roeder wasn't arrested or questioned; he didn't even have a patrol car intimidatingly cruise by his house late at night. Instead, Roeder was left undisturbed while he allegedly planned his next-day attack on the Kansas doctor. This news comes on the heels of Kate Harding's excellent post about how difficult it is for abortion providers to get law enforcement to respond to harassment from pro-life groups, and it raises an important question: Could Tiller's assassination have been prevented by law enforcement?

...This is but one more hefty piece of evidence of a nationwide failure to adequately protect licensed and law-abiding medical professionals from violent extremists. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: This domestic war on terror has to be fought.

and
" Why Clinic Violence is Obama's Problem " by Ann Friedman at The American Prospect, June 1, 2009

Dr. George Tiller's murder should push the federal government to get serious about fighting harassment of abortion providers.

From the immediate post-Roe years to the mid-1990s, clinic violence and blockades were a constant threat. After Dr. David Gunn was assassinated in 1993, Congress passed the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which specifically banned such acts as blocking clinic doors, trespassing, making violent threats, arson, vandalism, stalking clinic employees, and other forms of violence. Many of these acts were illegal already, but the law made clear that targeting a clinic with these crimes merited a federal response.

While FACE improved the situation (the number of clinics experiencing severe violence dropped from 52 percent in 1994 to 20 percent in 2000), it didn't succeed in ending the violence. Attacks against women's health clinics -- both those that provide abortions and those that do not -- continued throughout the Bush years. According to the National Abortion Federation, since 2000 abortion providers have reported 14 arsons, 78 death threats, 66 incidents of assault and battery, 117 anthrax threats, 128 bomb threats, 109 incidents of stalking, 541 acts of vandalism, one bombing, and one attempted murder.

...The last time an abortion provider was murdered, when Dr. Barnett Slepian was killed in 1998, it was a wake-up call to the fact that passing the FACE Act wasn't enough. Attorney General Janet Reno established the National Task Force on Violence against Health Care Providers, which committed the Department of Justice to enforcing FACE, coordinating information on national anti-abortion extremist groups, funding clinic safety efforts, and training local law enforcement. The following year, the White House budget requested $4.5 million to beef up security at abortion clinics. But other than finally bringing James Kopp, Slepian's killer, to justice in 2003, the task force was largely dormant for eight years under the Bush administration.

...The threat of violence is reflected in the very construction of Tiller's and other clinics around the country: high concrete walls, few windows, a secure entryway with bullet-proof glass. They look like bunkers, not doctor's offices. This sort of security would not be necessary if clinics only had to deal with peaceful protesters exercising their right to free speech. (FACE explicitly protects the right to protest peacefully outside abortion clinics.) Acts of vandalism also make it harder for clinics to provide a professional and inviting atmosphere for patients. Every dollar that Tiller put into fixing his water-damaged roof and replacing broken windows was a dollar not spent, say, upgrading medical equipment.

These harassment campaigns also have a chilling effect on medical students who are considering whether to become abortion providers. Would you choose a profession in which death threats simply come with the territory? A full 57 percent of abortion providers in this country are older than 50, and scant few provide late-term abortions. I was in Nebraska several years ago to interview Dr. Leroy Carhart (whose challenges to abortion-restricting laws went all the way to the Supreme Court), and Carhart and Tiller were the only two late-term providers in their region. If one wanted to go on vacation or got sick, the other had to fill in. There was no one else.

No Room For Compromise With The Pro-Life Movement & Did Local Authorities & FBI Fail To Protect Dr. Tiller?

UPDATE: 11:27 AM & 12:01 PM & 12:35 PM , June 4, 2009

Taliban Christians Imposing their Religious Beliefs on All Americans

"A person is a person no matter how small"
America has sinned by allowing abortion
Raising a generation of would be assassins- Taliban Christians
Jesus Camp Anti-Abortion Clip-Creating a generation of Fanatics

In the case of the murder of Dr George Tiller were local authorities & the FBI negligent in not responding to recent vandalism of Tiller's abortion clinic?
According to an eyewitness & video of surveillance cameras show that Roeder Tiller's assailant was responsible for the vandalism.

It also can be argued that there is little or no room for compromise with the Pro-Life Movement who define life as beginning with & therefore protected at the point when an egg is fertilized -the Zygote.
The Pro-Life movement is not just against late term abortion but against all abortions & are against the use of the Morning After Pill or even the Birth Control Pill or any Birth Control method which interferes with the natural God ordained process of pregnancy & birth. The Bible they argue that God said for his human creatures to go forth & multiply. So any attempt to interfere with this process is immoral & anti-Biblical. The only birth control method they approve of is abstinence before marriage. This is also part of the reason that the Pro-Life Movement & the Religious Right are anti-homosexual since Gays & Lesbian couples have sexual relations without any chance of impregnation. The Bible also says they claim that Homosexuality is an abomination to God & therefore to all "True Believers ".

" When you convince your followers that abortion providers are the equivalent of SS officers slaughtering innocents by the millions, tell them that "it's all-out WAR" against pro-choicers and then provide the home addresses and personal information of the "monster" "late-term baby-killer" abortion providers you're supposedly at war against, you can't act surprised when those followers conclude that it's morally justified to use the information to kill doctors."

"We in the pro-life movement must not flinch"
"We must not waver we must not fear"
" We must not surrender a single inch"
"He (Tiller) was one of the most evil people on earth. He reaped what he sowed
"We will continue to call people like George Tiller Mass Murderers"
" The people to blame are the pro-abortionists & their defenders in the government
We must protect children from the moment of conception to their birth "

Randall Terry , May 31,2009

In considering the issue of abortion we must come to terms with the fact that the anti-abortionists who refer to themselves as Pro-Life are not prepared for any real dialogue or compromise with those who disagree with them on the issue of abortion.

The notion that life begins as soon as an egg is fertilized fits in with how the Christian Fundamentalist views the world in stark contrast of good & evil it is either/ or; God exists or does not; the bible is the inerrant word of God or it is not.Part of the issue for the Fundamentalist is that of certainty. There can be no doubts or equivocation everything is black & white. To say that abortion is ok under certain conditions doesn't fit this notion of certitude & 100% . The anti-Abortionist is looking at the issue from a religious point of view. When an egg is fertilized by a sperm this is God's will . The resulting Zygote is alive because God has infused it with an immortal soul. To the pro-life movement there is no difference between late term abortions or abortions performed in the first couple of weeks of a pregnancy . But they go further as Randall Terry points out that there is no difference between an abortion to the use of the morning after pill. As far as the pro-life movement is concerned the destruction of a zygote or a fetus is still in their view murder. To argue in favor of a morning after pill or an abortion is to make the bold assertion that God sometimes makes mistakes and so it is okay sometimes to terminate a pregnancy.

What one also discovers is that the pro-life movement is also against the use of birth control including the birth control pill or even the use of condoms. They are also against any form of sex education. The only method of birth control they appear to believe in is that of abstinence. So there is no real room for compromise with the pro-life movement.

Some would argue that for the Religious Right & Conservative Christians being anti-abortion is a litmus test of whether someone is or is not a true Christian. Of course according to the Religious Right & Conservative Evangelicals there are a number of issues which are also Litmus tests for the True Believing Christian such as being anti-Gay, anti-Feminism , anti-Muslim, anti-sex education anti-Darwinism & the baning of any book or movie or TV or radio program or internet sites which are considered blasphemous or anti-American or unAmerican - along with a belief in America as God's Chosen Nation & that it is America's Divine Duty to spread Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity to the rest of the world.

But now in recent years the Religious Right have added other beliefs as part of their canon of orthodoxy such as a belief in the use of any & all means to protect America from its enemies so Pre-Emptive War, the obliteration of any country which is deemed an enemy of the United States , the use of torture on enemy combatants-

They also are against the United Nations or any other international body & reject any treaty which is seen as interfering in America's sovereignty & its duty to Christianize or Americanize the world. So the Religious Right were quite pleased when President Bush abandoned the Geneva Conventions & the International Ban on torture & this explains their opposition to other international agreements such the Banning of land-mines or other weapons & they are adamant that America not sign onto international agreements to do with Global Warming or any other environmental cause. The United Nations & International Agreements they see as a world wide conspiracy to attack America's sovereignty. And we can add to this the belief that for Biblical reasons America must support the State of Israel unconditionally.

Randall Terry of the Pro-life anti-abortion organization Operation Rescue speaks out about the murder of Dr George tiller . He says this is a teachable moment for the pro-life movement.. He is unapologetic about the murder & is more concerned that the liberals & pro-choice advocates will use this incident to chastise and to silence the Pro-Life movement. He believes the media will put pressure on the pro-life movement to calm down its rhetoric & rob it of its most powerful tools.

"Is it Wrong to Murder an Abortionist?" What the hell, Slate?

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now points out that it is possible that Dr. george Tiller might not have been murdered if local authorities and the FBI had responded to the recent vandalism known to have been committed by Roeder at Tiller's abortion clinic. The authorities had been given information that the vandalism had been committed by Roeder by an eyewitness & that the acts were also caught on video by security cameras at the facilities. It seems local authorities were in fact were afraid to take on Roeder & the Pro-life Movement. So the question why were local authorities or the FBI slow to act ?

" Dr. George Tiller Didn’t Have to Die " By Amy Goodman of Democracy Now at truthdig.com, june 2, 2009

George Tiller did not have to die. He was assassinated while in church in Wichita, Kan., on Sunday, targeted for legally performing abortions. His death might have been prevented simply through enforcement of existing laws. His alleged killer was seen vandalizing a Kansas City clinic, Aid for Women, both the week before and the day before the murder, putting glue into its door locks. The manager of that clinic, who calls himself “Jeff Pederson” to protect his identity, told me he called the FBI and local police both times, but the vandal, the alleged killer Scott Roeder, was not arrested. Pederson had Roeder’s first name and his license-plate number. He had images of him on the security video. He recognized him from previous protests.

...Dr. Susan Robinson (who) flies to Wichita every month to perform abortions in Tiller’s clinic. She said, “It is generally regarded amongst those who do clinic security, if local authorities are not responsive, if they don’t show up or they don’t vigilantly enforce the law, that it encourages the anti-abortion people to push it further and further.”

She said: “In Wichita, Dr. Tiller was constantly dealing with the same lack of enforcement. Wichita prohibits placing signs on city property. But they allow the anti-abortion protesters to set up dozens of crosses and leave them all day. Dr. Tiller went to the city attorney over the crosses, and complained that people block the clinic driveway. He told me that the city attorney said, ‘I would rather be sued by George Tiller than the anti-abortion folks.’ ”

The 1994 federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) makes it a crime to block or damage a reproductive health service facility.

Enforcing FACE saves lives.

"Who killed George Tiller?" by Jill Filipovic, at The Guardian , June 1, 2009

George Tiller's murder is a horrific consequence of the harassment and intimidation of abortion providers

But this latest act of terrorism is, sadly, not an anomaly. It is part of a clearly-established pattern of harassment, intimidation and violence against abortion providers and pro-choice individuals. And mainstream pro-life groups shoulder much of the blame.

Pro-life organisations routinely refer to abortion as "murder", a "genocide" and a "holocaust". They post the full names abortion providers on their websites, along with their addresses, their license plate numbers, their photos, the names of children and the schools those children attend (sometimes with helpful Wild-West-style "Wanted" posters offering $5,000 rewards).

When you convince your followers that abortion providers are the equivalent of SS officers slaughtering innocents by the millions, tell them that "it's all-out WAR" against pro-choicers and then provide the home addresses and personal information of the "monster" "late-term baby-killer" abortion providers you're supposedly at war against, you can't act surprised when those followers conclude that it's morally justified to use the information to kill doctors.

These are not fringe groups. Conservative television personality Bill O'Reilly called Tiller's clinic a "death mill", referred to Tiller as a "baby killer" who was "executing babies about to be born" and said Tiller was doing "Nazi stuff" for which he "had blood on his hands."

... This was not the act of a lone extremist. It is one more act of violence to add to a long, long list of crimes committed by anti-choice terrorists, and it is the logical outcome of years of increasingly violent, dehumanising and threatening rhetoric and action on the part of supposedly mainstream pro-life groups. The responsibility for George Tiller's death surely falls on the shoulders of the person who actually pulled the trigger. But when pro-life groups did everything but give him a gun, their hands are hardly clean.

and as Deborah King points out the Pro-Life movement is an extremist organization comparable to the the Taliban or other religious extremist:

George Tiller's Murder and Sotomayor by Deborah King, at Huff Post , june 1, 2009

This murder--is exactly what religious opponents of abortion have preached and practiced. They have attacked abortion doctors and clinics for decades--and they do so at the behest of religious leaders and politicians who, like their philosophical cousins, the Islamists, denounce Western civilization from pulpits and podiums at sermons and conventions alike.

Most readers are familiar with the anti-abortion rantings of Republicans and Catholic and Christian fundamentalists, who routinely (most recently at the University of Notre Dame) define abortion as murder, a theological view based on the belief that life begins at conception.

Religionists proclaim that abortion is therefore an evil sin which violates God's highest commandments. Among those who denounce abortion as the worst moral transgression in society is Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, who has railed against Dr. Tiller for years, falsely accusing him of executing babies--even a late-term fetus is not a baby--and practically pre-approving any action to stop what O'Reilly wrongly calls "murder".

...Today, President Obama said he was shocked by the murder of Dr. George Tiller and he described abortion as a "difficult" issue. Wrong, Mr. President. You--and all Americans for a woman's right to abortion--must stop equivocating, stop being shocked that those who distort what constitutes murder are willing to commit murder and start defending our rights. Dr. Tiller's murder is an alarm telling us to unite against religious fundamentalism--and against those who tolerate it.

" Abortion Foes and the False Piety of Life's Sanctity " by Jeff Schweitzer, June 2, 2009

...What abortion opponents mean is that some forms of life, that only they have the right to define, are sacred, while others can be disregarded as long as they give the okay.

Perhaps, then, the "sanctity of life" really applies only to human beings. No, that does not work either because abortion foes do not view all human life as sacred; only some life. For example, killing in war is justified, as is lethal injection for convicted criminals. Opponents of abortion are almost universally in favor of the death penalty. Killing an intruder in your home is acceptable. How can one possibly hold these beliefs and claim to believe at the same time that "all life" is sacred? The contradiction is stark, and the assault on logic and reason beyond comprehension.

Pushing the "sanctity of life" becomes particularly problematic when murders are committed for the cause. Those proudly proclaiming support for the sanctity of life support nothing of the kind. The truth is that these folks believe life is sacred on a case-by-case basis, hardly a founding principle.

...Abortion foes claim, as a secondary argument, that the procedure is murder based on the notion that a fertilized egg has the same suite of rights enjoyed by all humans. The belief that a few cells derived from a fertilized egg is a human being is a sad example of good intentions based on misguided notions of biology. The small ball of cells is potentially a human being, but so are eggs and sperm, even if to an unequal degree. All require certain conditions to realize the potential to become human. Ovulation and male masturbation would be acts of murder by the same logic that confers the status of humanness on a fertilized egg or early-stage embryo.

...The real accessory to murder in this story is Randall Terry.

----------------

The Politics of "Murder" by Jeffrey Feldman at Huff Post , June 1, 2009

The murderer of Dr. George Tiller is the product of a political movement that has so thoroughly expanded the definition of "murder" that it now includes everything and everyone who rejects or even questions the idea that a zygote is a citizen. Until that movement changes its focus, it will continue to give rise to activists who kill doctors.

So called "late term abortion" is a hotly contested and controversial practice debated in living rooms and judicial opinions alike. But it is not the reason a right-wing activist shot another doctor. Dr. George Tiller was killed in his church because the right-wing has built a political movement around a violent idea: that America has been transformed by liberals into a culture that "murders" babies.

Like a giant river supported by millions of tiny underground streams, this movement is supported by everyone who defines those with whom they disagree on abortion policy as supporters of "murder."

For those Americans whose worldview has been saturated and distorted by this political movement, "murder" is not just a throwaway term from TV, radio or church. For these few, "murder" has become a dark lens through which they view all of contemporary American society--a poisonous paradigm that leads them to believe the only way to end this new holocaust is to refresh the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots.

... It has become commonplace on the right, for example, to talk about defrosting frozen embryos as an act of "murder." Many on the right talk about the so-called "morning after pill" and the RU486 "abortion pill" as "murder." Many on the right even talk about birth control as "murder."

Murder, murder, murder--the drumbeat is hypnotic. When the right is talking about abortion, they are accusing the left of "murder."

Anti-Abortionists Celebrate The Murder of Dr. Tiller By An American Domestic Terrorist

" The doctor's murder is domestic terrorism, and if our leaders don't act boldly, there will be more violence "
By Gloria Feldt at Salon.com, June 1, 2009

Anyway it appears the culture wars continue & it is not just a war of ideas & words but is one of violence as an abortion doctor is murdered or someone who is Gay or Lesbian is beaten or murdered or someone who is Hispanic or looks Arab or Muslim is beaten or murdered & all Non-European Immigrants are treated as second class citizens and are blamed for all of America's troubles. Meanwhile Media personalities such as Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity , Ann Coulter & Laura Ingraham & Michael Savage & Fox News & CNN stoke the fires of hatred & fear & ignorance to improve their ratings & the sales of their books & to ensure lucrative lecture tours - for money & power & fame they will do whatever it takes. It is doubtful that they believe in half of what they say. But in America that's what's called free speech.

So these Holier Than Thou Self-Righteous Fanatics & Charlatans foam at the mouth with their Hate Speech while condoning acts of violence against anyone they dislike & whom they have demonized. Meanwhile the more rational Americans are afraid to speak out because they might offend these Fear & Hate Mongers who shout and screech at the American public on a daily basis.

Here's a sample of how the anti-abortionists truly feel about Dr. Tiller's murder- they are in effect celebrating his death.

Anti-Abortion Marquee Commenting On the murder of Dr. Tiller

Rachel Maddow on Tiller Murder and the Anti Abortion Terrorist Movement-June 1, 2009

Rachel Maddow describes how the Anti-Abortion Network is connected, and has perpetrated a successful Rain of Terror on Women's Health Providers

Maddow interviews Frank Schaeffer who with his father Francis Schaeffer in the 1970s & 1980s helped to create the Religious Right and helped to radicalize the Religious Right on certain issues especially on abortion. They used incendiary rhetoric & used sophisticated propaganda tools to create an over zealous extremist movement.
O'Reilly says Tiller was a mass murderer who killed over 60,000 babies but claims his own incendiary rhetoric & demonizing of Dr. Tiller by comparing Tiller to Al Qaeda or to the NAZIS & saying that Tiller must be stopped had no effect on Tiller's murderer .

Words as Frank Schaeffer says have consequences. Frank Schaeffer believes that his own actions & words in the past have led to this type of violence & he apologizes for being too rash & over zealous in the 1970s & 1980s.

Rachel Maddow Frank Schaeffer: FOX Incites Violence

and from the anti-abortionist organization The Army of God which claims that the government of the United States & those in the various departments or in Congress & the Senate all of them have blood on their hands and so are as guilty as Dr. Tiller & they will be judged & like Dr. Tiller will be made to pay for their crimes in this life as well as the next.

The lives of innocent babies scheduled to be murdered by George Tiller are spared by the action of American hero Scott Roeder.

George Tiller the Babykiller reaped what he sowed and is now in eternal hell.
Psalm 55:15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

George Tiller will never murder another child again.

Abortionist George Tiller, now in eternal hell fire for shedding the blood of innocent children

Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils
And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters Psalm 106:37,38

and then on the website they dedicate a section condemning the US Department of Justice & the US government for protecting abortionists

Below is the statement from the Department of Justice about their success in persecuting anti-abortionists. Following that is their VAAPCON document, e.g.; National Task Force on Violence Against Health Care Providers Report on Federal Efforts to Prevent and Prosecute Clinic Violence

The DOJ's persecution of those who oppose abortion, while protecting those who murder innocent babies is a harbinger of the judgment of God which is coming upon the United States.

God has charged you to be "ministers of righteousness", and commanded you to protect innocent life - but you protect those who murder the child in the womb. You have made yourself an accomplice to these murders.

To those in the government who support and strengthen the hands of abortionists babykillers, the murderers of helpless children, you also have the blood of those children on your hands.

Psalm 105:15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

Isaiah 59:3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

Below, in their own words, is the evidence convicting the DOJ of being in league
with those who mass murder helpless children that were created in God's image.
They convict themselves.

And another Pro-Life anti-abortionist group chimes in:

Operation Save America :Buffalo

All pro-life Christians will have to deal with this issue in many ways. We must stand firm in the facts that caused Mr. Tillers death.

IT WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT IT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FALSE PRO-CHOICE DOCTRINE THAT PERMITS WOMEN THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO LIVES OR WHO DIES. MR TILLER'S ACTS OF DEFIANCE OF GOD'S LAWS BROUGHT ABOUT HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. GOD'S LAW SAYS WHATEVER A MAN SOWS SO SHALL HE REAP.

May our Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on his family and friends and may America see the far reaching consequences of abortion and end the violence.

And then there's anti-abortionists The Lambs of Christ

Father Norman U. Weslin, O.S., a missionary priest to the unborn child, formed The Lambs of Christ in August of l988 as a team of "Non-violent Victim Souls" to join in the effort to stop Satan from killing Jesus Christ's babies while they are still helpless in their mothers' wombs.

But as an article in Time in 1992 points out these so called Lambs are pretty loud & intimidating & down right dangerous :The Shouting of the Lambs at Time.com, May 4, 1992

But the Lambs of Christ, in the words of one pro-choice leader, are "wolves in sheep's clothing." Although not so widely known as Operation Rescue, the Lambs may well be the most zealous and aggressive of the pro-life organizations that seek to shut down "killing centers" (abortion clinics) by intimidating protests that result in arrests and jail sentences for the protesters.

Meanwhile Gloria Feldt who is pro-choice argues that she is tired of going to candle-light vigils for those murdered by the Anti-Abortionists & the Religious Right and would prefer to have the government take more action to protect abortion clinics and the people who work there.

" George Tiller needs more than candlelight vigils The doctor's murder is domestic terrorism, and if our leaders don't act boldly, there will be more violence "By Gloria Feldt at Salon.com, June 1, 2009

That’s why today, after what happened to George Tiller, I know that the only thing that will assuage my personal grief over his shocking loss is for leaders across our nation to join me in expressing outrage at this heinous crime, this domestic terrorism. And yes, they need to call it out in exactly those terms. That’s what it is.

I want to hear massive outrage on the part of the community. I want it to start with President Obama. His statement today is a good beginning.

But that’s not nearly enough. He must immediately outline an action plan to increase federal protection for providers and clinics and call for stringent enforcement of the Federal Access to Clinic Entrances Act. He has an opportunity to make a speech that addresses women’s moral right to reproductive self-determination as passionately as his brilliant speech about race did during the primary. He can and should lead the nation to a larger and more productive conversation about the complex choices women make, and why women deserve the respect, equality and justice inherent in the right to choose to have, or not have, a child. He should bring together pro-choice and anti-choice leaders and get them to issue a joint statement decrying Tiller’s murder as well as all such violent opposition to one another’s efforts. Now that would be real common ground.

But even if the president did all of that, I would still not be ready for another candlelight vigil. The change we need in our culture’s attitudes toward women’s reproductive justice has to happen both top-down and bottom-up.

When it comes to decrying Tiller’s unspeakable murder, I want to hear it from Congress. I want to hear it from clergy, the medical profession, the media and civic leaders: "This kind of violation will not be tolerated. Period." I want to see leaders and people at the grassroots joining hands together in support of those who provide women with reproductive health services, including abortion. I want them to put the yellow armband on, to assume Tiller’s name as so many took on the Obama’s middle name, Hussein, when he was disparaged during the election. Doctors have a special responsibility. David Toub M.D, MBA, who provided abortions when he was a practicing physician in Philadelphia, told me, "This could have been any of us who provide or provided abortion services. I'm just as annoyed by some of my own colleagues and the American Medical Association who marginalized us and even looked down at anyone involved in providing abortion."

and so it goes,

But I'd like to say on this day after a man was murdered in cold blood for preforming abortions that I -- and the people I worked with in the religious right, the Republican Party, the pro-life movement and the Roman Catholic Church, all contributed to this killing by our foolish and incendiary words.

I am very sorry. "

If Roeder had been arrested previously for having bomb materials in his car & had been known for making threats against Tiller & other abortionists then why wasn't he treated as a real & imminent threat & as a Domestic Terrorists,. This seems to be part of the problem in the US when it comes to Domestic Terrorists who are on the right & connected with powerful right wing or Religious Right organizations that they often do not serve the time they should for their crimes. Why wasn't he under constant surveillance by the FBI. If he had been a peaceful member of an anti-war group we know he would have been under surveillance. It's like the KKK they are still often treated as a bunch of harmless people who according to US laws are able to preach hatred & even Genocide since this is their is their right to freedom of speech & freedom of assembly. As we many of the crimes committed by the KKK & other racist organizations often go unpunished because of public sympathy or that of an all white jury or a judge or prosecutors who sympathize with the KKK or other racist groups or even individuals who are racist. These racists & fanatical anti-abortionists & Religious Right groups as we know are part of the Republican base & that of the US Conservative Movement.

And so where is the outrage on the right & the conservatives & Republicans & their Network of Choice Fox News when it comes to this type of Domestic Terrorism.
Since the election of President Obama there has been a rise in threats against abortion clinics across the US and against groups such as Planned Parenthood. So it should come as no surprise that the threats have been growing since Obama's inauguration & now resulted in the murder of Dr. Tiller by a Domestic Terrorists egged on by the Religious Right & their media enablers while Obama has been careful not to offend these self-righteous angry mean spirited groups .

It is unfortunate that many liberals in the US have been unwilling to speak out more against these religious fanatics - do they fear the Religious Right, do they fear offending these self-righteous hypocrites who claim to be pro-life yet celebrate the death of an abortion doctor.

Meanwhile those on the Religious Right are also the most outspoken in their support for the abuse & torture of detainees. So bashing a man's head up against a wall or shoving a broom handle up his rectum or sodomizing young boys is the right & privilege of a Christian Nation or so they say.

They are also the same folks who were the most enthusiastic supporters of Bush & Cheney's unnecessary war in Iraq. And so they are quite enthusiastic about killing even innocent Iraqis because they are deemed unworthy of life or are subhuman or evil because they have not found JESUS.

These are also the same people who prefer helping out the rich while criticizing those American's who find themselves without jobs , unable to pay their mortgages or other bills. Hagee & Pat Roberson have no pity for the poor & Hagee has said the government has no business helping the poor & so he says they should be left to starve. So the children of poor parents must be left to starve because of their parents financial problems. So much for respecting human life.

How I (and Other "Pro-Life" Leaders) Contributed to Dr. Tiller's Murder by Frank Schaeffer, at Huff Post , June 1, 2009

In the late 1970s my evangelical pro-life leader father Francis Schaeffer and Dr. C. Everett Koop (who soon become Surgeon General in the Reagan administration) went on the road with me taking the documentary antiabortion film series I produced and directed ( Whatever Happened to the Human Race?) to the evangelical public. The series and companion book eventually brought millions of heretofore non-political evangelical Americans into the antiabortion crusade. We personally also got people like Jerry Falwell, Ronald Reagan and countless Republican leaders involved in the "issue."

In the early 80s my father followed up with a book that sold over a million copies called A Christian Manifesto. In certain passages he advocated force if all other methods for rolling back the abortion ruling of Roe v. Wade failed. He compared America and its legalized abortion to Hitler's Germany and said that whatever tactics would have been morally justified in removing Hitler would be justified in trying to stop abortion. I said the same thing in a book I wrote (A Time For Anger) that right wing evangelicals made into a best seller. For instance Dr. James Dobson (of the Focus On the Family radio show) gave away over 100,000 copies.

Like many writers of moral/political/religious theories my father and I would have been shocked that someone took us at our word, walked into a Lutheran Church and pulled the trigger on an abortionist. But even if the murderer never read Dad's or my words we helped create the climate that made this murder likely to happen.

In fact that very thing has happened before. In 1994, Dr. John Bayard Britton and one of his volunteer escorts were shot and killed outside an abortion clinic in Pensacola, Florida. Paul Hill, a former minister, was convicted of the killings and executed in 2003. Paul Hill was an avid follower of my father's.

Scott Roeder Held As "Person Of Interest" In Probe Of Dr. George Tiller's Murder at Huff post, May 31, 2009

McClatchy Newspapers is reporting that Scott Roeder, the "person of interest" held by police in Kansas, belonged to the "Freemen" anti-government group in the 1990s and was once arrested for having bomb-making materials in his car:

"Freemen" was a term adopted by those who claimed sovereignty from government jurisdiction and operated under their own legal system, which they called common-law courts. Adherents declared themselves exempt from laws, regulations and taxes and often filed liens against judges, prosecutors and others, claiming that money was owed to them as compensation.

In April 1996, Roeder was arrested in Topeka after Shawnee County sheriff's deputies stopped him for not having a proper license plate. In his car, officers said they found ammunition, a blasting cap, a fuse cord, a one-pound can of gunpowder and two 9-volt batteries, with one connected to a switch that could have been used to trigger a bomb.

Christina Page argues that there has been a rise in violent rhetoric & chatter on the right since Obama's election & so it is no surprise that violence should be the result. She notes there was a similar rise in violence on the right during the Clinton administration but it declined during the Bush Regime.

"The Murder of Dr. Tiller, a Foreshadowing" by Christina Page at Huff Post ,May 31, 2009

For those who would like to think today's murder in church of Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider, is an isolated incident, here's the horrifying news: You are wrong. The pattern is clear and frightening.

In March 1993, three months into the administration of our first pro-choice president, Bill Clinton, abortion provider Dr. David Gunn was murdered in Pensacola, Florida. That was the beginning of what would become a five-fold increase in violence against abortion providers throughout the Clinton years.

Today's assassination of Dr. George Tiller comes 5 months into the term of our second pro-choice president. For anyone who would like to believe that this is a statistical anomaly, a coincidence that doesn't portend anything, again, you are wrong.

During the entire Bush administration, from 2000-2008 there were no murders.

During the Clinton era, between 1994-2000 there were 6 abortion providers and clinic staff murdered, and 17 attempted murders of abortion providers. There were 12 bombings or arsons during the Clinton years.

During the Bush administration, not only were there no murders, there were no attempted murders. There was one clinic bombing during the Bush years.

One can only conclude that like terrorist sleeper cells, these extremists have now been set in motion. Indeed the evidence is already there. The chatter, the threats, the hate-filled rhetoric are abundant.

In the last year of the Bush administration there were 396 harassing calls to abortion clinics. In just the first four months of the Obama administration that number has jumped to 1401.

And so the execution of Tiller, 67, is not only tragic but ominous. He was born into an era when being an abortion provider meant saving women's lives. And the cold-blooded murder in church and in front of his wife of this stalwart defender of women rights and beloved physician, comes as a message for others, as well as tragic deja vu.

and :

Eleanor Bader, co-author of Targets of Hatred: Anti-Abortion Terrorism, in an article in March for RHRealityCheck.org about clinics bracing for an uptick in violence after the election of Obama wrote, "immediately after Obama's election, Douglas Johnson, Legislative Director of the National Right to Life Committee, called him a "hardcore pro-abortion president." The American Life League dubbed him "one of the most radical pro-abortion politicians ever," and Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life warned that Obama will "force Americans to pay for the killing of innocents." Americans United for Life, the Family Research Council and Operation Save America quickly joined the chorus."

and she concludes:

Holder and his Justice Department should take note of the chatter and move aggressively against this form of domestic terrorism. The hate-filled rhetoric against Obama from the anti-abortion movement is at unprecedented levels, even for this reflexively inflammatory group. They refer to him as the "Most Pro-Abortion President Ever" ignoring the fact that he is the first to extend an olive branch in hopes that together we can make abortion more rare.

Anti-abortion groups will put out carefully worded press statements condemning the murder of Dr. Tiller, as became routine for them during the Clinton years. But unless the rhetoric they choose from now on becomes careful too -- they may be the enablers of murder and terror.

" Piecing Together the Murder of Dr. George Tiller: Right-Wing Violence Rears Its Head " By AlterNet,June 1, 2009.

Tiller was the target of vicious on-air attacks by Bill O'Reilly. Could the murderer have been inspired by O'Reilly's rants?

Scott Roeder, 51, has been detained for questioning.

Tiller had long faced the threat of right-wing violence. The Tiller Women’s Health Clinic clinic was bombed in 1985; in 1993, Tiller was shot in both arms by abortion protester Rachelle Shannon. The heavily fortified clinic was guarded by a private security team, and Tiller relied on a bodyguard outside of work.

Recently, Tiller had aired concerns about his safety to federal investigators. The Associated Press reports:

[Tiller's Attorney Dan] Monnat said Tiller had asked federal prosecutors to step up investigations of vandalism and other threats against the clinic out of fear that the incidents were increasing and that Tiller's safety was in jeopardy. [Wichita Deputy Police Chief Tom] Stolz, however, said police knew of no threats connected to the shooting.

In early May, Tiller had asked the FBI to investigate vandalism at his clinic, including cut wires to surveillance cameras and damage to the roof that sent rainwater pouring into the building.

Tiller had also long been the target of vicious attacks by conservative pundits like Bill O'Reilly, who often denounced Tiller on his show. Brad Reed writes on Brad Blog following Tiller's acquittal in March on charges that he had broken a Kansas abortion law:

O'Reilly continued his series of programs focusing on the Kansas physician, charging him with "operating a death mill" , and alleging that he was "executing babies"

O'Reilly had previously been highly critical of the state's Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, charging, during his "Talking Points" commentary in 2007, that she was "allowing [Tiller] to continue the slaughter."

Writing for Salon, Gabriel Winant argues that O'Reilly's vicious slander of Tiller may well have served as a provocation for the shooting. Although O'Reilly certainly did not instruct his listeners to commit violence:

... there's no other person who bears as much responsibility for the characterization of Tiller as a savage on the loose, killing babies willy-nilly thanks to the collusion of would-be sophisticated cultural elites, a bought-and-paid-for governor and scofflaw secular journalists. Tiller's name first appeared on The Factor on Feb. 25, 2005. Since then, O'Reilly and his guest hosts have brought up the doctor on 28 more episodes, including as recently as April 27 of this year. Almost invariably, Tiller is described as "Tiller the Baby Killer."

and :
"This is where O'Reilly's campaign against George Tiller becomes dangerous. While he never advocated anything violent or illegal, the Fox bully repeatedly portrayed the doctor as a murderer on the loose, allowed to do whatever he wanted by corrupt and decadent authorities. "Also, it looks like Dr. Tiller, who some call Tiller the Baby Killer, is spending a large amount of money in order to get Mr. Morrison elected. That opens up all kinds of questions," said O'Reilly on Nov. 6, 2006, in one of many suggestions that Tiller was improperly influencing the election."

and so it goes,
GORD.

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism : Anti-Abortionist Guns Down Dr. Tiller

Dr. Tiller gunned down by Anti-Abortionists
Christian Fundamentalists Terrorism should be treated as such
Anti-Abortionists Randall Terry of Operation Rescue Shows Little Concern over the Murder of Dr. Tiller
Christian Fundamentalists overjoyed by the assassination of a person they merely see as a "Baby Killer"-who in their view is "Evil" & is therefore anti-God and has given himself over to the Powers of Darkness ie Satan.
Note Anti-Abortionist often compare abortion to the Holocaust which killed 6million Jews
The Abortion Holocaust they claim has resulted in the murder of 40 million Babies & so they it is worse than the crimes of the Nazis & Adolph Hitler
When average people who think of themselves as "True Believers " are bombarded with this Christian Fundamentalist' Propaganda on a daily basis is it any wonder that some of them are going to act & take the law into their own hands. The anti-Abortionist to a great extent are in fact fueling this type of anger & hatred which sooner or later results in acts of violence.

Antony and the Johnsons - Child of God

-torture war assassinations all approved by Christian Fundamentalists who believe Jesus would approve as well . Is this true .
If there are Christians who disagree with these fanatical Christian Fundamentalist why don't more of those Christians stand up and speak out .

Maybe if more rational Christians would speak out it might drown out the hysteria we are constantly subjected to in the media by these Christian Fundamentalist fanatics .

It seems it has to be said time & again that these Christian Fundamentalists do not just claim to have a different view of Christianity but rather argue that their view of Christianity is the only right view that any true believing Christian could have . They believe that Jesus is in favor of the War in Iraq and that torture is ok and that murdering an abortion doctor is merely doing God's work.

They ignore as I have said before Jesus' Sermon on the Mount or give it a rather distorted interpretation which fits in with their extremists views .

The leaders & spokespersons for the Christian Fundamentalist movement begin with a certain view of the world & of society & then comb the Biblical text to find passages which will support their views . Often the passages are taken out of context and they tend to ignore contradictions found within the Bible itself. But they claim that the Bible in its entirety is to be taken literally because the Bible is the Inerrant Word of God & therefore contains no real errors or contradictions. So called errors or contradictions they claim are merely a lack of understanding or insight on the part of those reading the Bible. On the one hand they will say that the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament on basic theology and yet when they need to support a particular view they will cherry-pick the Old or the New Testament to find Biblical support for their views or arguments.

These Christian Fundamentalists in the United States are no longer some small fringe group as they were in 1929 during the infamous Scopes Trial. They number at least 20 million . But what is more disturbing is that in the US they have managed to infiltrate the US military & other parts of the government forming a type of fifth-column which includes a significant number of powerful & influential people who are able to some extent to influence public policies & legislation. For instance if even a third or more of the military commanders that is high ranking officers who are Christian Fundamentalists who believe that part of America's mission is to either Christianize the world or to wipe out most of the non-Christians this will eventually have an effect on military policies ie torture, pre-emptive wars a lack of respect for other peoples cultures or religions.

At some point the US will reach a tipping point from which there will be no turning back. If you watch documentaries such as Jesus Camp one sees that whether its a camp for Christian Fundamentalists Children or a University such as Regent University or a military school- the spokespersons often say that their stated goal is to take back control of American society & all branches of government in the near future to make America in their view once again a Christian nation . By doing so they hope to promote Christian Fundamentalist' policies , laws & legislation.

To many on the Far Right and the Religious Right including Christian Fundamentalist at the moment they feel they are at some sort of significant cross-roads because they see the election of President Obama as a possible set-back or some sort of Divine sign which they are still trying to decipher or interpret.

" George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church" Huff Post May 31, 2009

WICHITA, Kansas -- Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.

...Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

Tiller's clinic also provided group and individual counseling, as well as chaplain and funeral services for people who were grieving.

The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, which runs a "Tiller Watch" feature on its website, released a statement condemning the shooting. "We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

Tiller remained prominent in the news in recent years, in part because of an investigation begun by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, an abortion opponent.

As noted Operation Rescue had hounded & persecuted Dr. Tiller for years & yet sent a message of condolence to Dr. Tiller's family. One would think that such a message from this group would possibly cause more pain for the family. One is struck by the insincerity & hypocrisy of on the part of Operation Rescue.
Also Note in their message of condolence they make sure they stick the knife in one more time by claiming " We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ." which is a dig since the people at Operation Rescue & his murderer believe anyone who performs abortions or assists in one way or another in abortions in their view can not be called "real Christians " and are destined to suffer in Hell for all eternity. So are they saying the family would better understand what happened to Dr. Tiller if they themselves were or became real Christians for then they would know that his death is in fact an act of God as punishment for his sins.

Randall Terry, Operation Rescue Founder, Says He's More Concerned About Obama's Reaction Than Tiller's Murder at Huff Post , May 31, 2009

Randall Terry, the founder of anti-abortion group Operation Rescue who led protests against George Tiller's clinic in Wichita, Kansas in 1991, issued a statement about today's killing of the abortion doctor.

In his comments, Terry does not grieve for Tiller or denounce the murder but seems more concerned about President Obama's reaction and what it bodes for the pro-life movement.

"George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions. Abortion is still murder. And we still must call abortion by its proper name; murder.

Those men and women who slaughter the unborn are murderers according to the Law of God. We must continue to expose them in our communities and peacefully protest them at their offices and homes, and yes, even their churches."

-----
The anti-Abortionists get their followers all riled up filling them with hate for anyone who is not an anti-abotionist & all those Godless Liberals who support the abortionist doctor- Then when one of their followers act on that hate & threaten doctors or even kill a doctor who performs abortion they back peddle claiming that's not what they wanted anyone to do. For such crimes people like Ann Coulter , Glenn beck, Limbaugh , Hannity , Michael Savage and the Anti-Abortion network Fox News are in part responsible. But they don't see it that way; what they see is a society which is immoral by allowing abortions. And if an abortion doctor gets threatened, is physically harmed or killed then they deserve it because it is God's Will.

Remember when Sarah Palin in one of her interviews was hard-pressed in deciding whether or not someone who kills an abortion doctor or blows up an abortion clinic is a "Domestic Terrorists". This is a typical view of many Evangelical Fundamentalists who condemn those they characterize as being Liberal & on the Left for their views and point to the harm they believe is being done by the views & public policies of these Godless Liberals & leftists.

In the current case what adds to the hypocrisy & is chilling is that the doctor was killed in his own Christian Church Though of course the members of Operation Rescue & their supporters on the Religious Right would argue that if the Church allowed an abortion doctor as a member then it is not their view a "real Christian Church" since they believe all "True Christians " are anti abortion.

The killing of Dr. George Tiller was not just a cold blooded murder it was a Hate Crime and an act of Domestic Terrorism and should be treated as such. Mary Mapes argues these points in her article. Her outrage is also based upon the fact she covered the protests against Dr. Tiller by Operation Rescue in 1991. So Dr. Tiller had been targeted by the anti-abortionists for some 18 years. So as she says she was not that surprised that an anti-abortionist had finally acted upon his beliefs & those of Operation Rescue and put those beliefs into action by murdering Dr. Tiller.

No Mercy by Mary Mapes at Huff Post May 31, 2009

I felt just sick today when I saw the bulletin about the murder of Dr. George Tiller.

Sicker still when I saw the "sympathy" letter issued by officials at Operation Rescue, the virulent anti-abortion organization that dogged this poor man for the past two decades. The statement said, "We pray for Mr. Tiller's family."

They had better say a few prayers for their own souls. They had better pray for forgiveness for relentlessly working to make this man a target.

Operation Rescue's Web site said the organization was "shocked" by the murder.

Well, I'm not.

This has been a long time coming, and no one has played a greater part in the run-up to the doctor's death than Operation Rescue. Their leaders -- and all of the group's enablers -- should be cowering in shame today.

I was in Wichita, Kansas in 1991 covering Operation Rescue's cruelly misnamed "Summer of Mercy," a six-week ordeal when thousands of anti-abortion protesters descended on Dr. George Tiller.

... Every night in the hotel that Operation Rescue designated as its home base, the organization sponsored a "worship service" that featured singing, prayer, sermonizing and a whole lotta snake oil.

Operation Rescue leader Randall Terry, an egotistical, self-aggrandizing super-nerd, commanded the room like a rock star. Women fainted and lay trembling on the ground when he entered to thundering applause and the screams of people who love Jesus so much they act like they're crazy.

The chemistry in the room was unlike anything I've been around, before or since.

In just a few weeks in Wichita, Operation Rescue forged an unholy alliance of sexually repressed super Christians, men who hate women and women who hate themselves and turned them into a supercharged army of bullies for Jesus.

These "rescuers" -- sweaty mobs of zombie-like true believers -- swarmed across the street in front of the clinic like angry ants. They crawled over the hot asphalt toward his office on their hands and knees. They collapsed onto the stairs, chained themselves to the fence, shrieked prayers and threats and bellowed the Biblical equivalent of evil spells at anyone who approached the place. They fell lifelessly to the ground, some of them swooning and crashing spectacularly to earth.

... After this country's seemingly endless assaults and murders of clinic doctors and staff, the explosions and fire bombings, the vandalism and harassment, it's clear that this violent behavior is not a natural outgrowth of religious belief or moral concerns.

This is not part of a disagreement over when life begins.

This is terrorism.

And if we believe this is terrorism, we need to act like it's terrorism.

No mercy.

---------------
and as Shannyn Moore writes that the murder of Dr. Tiller should be called what it is : "Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism". This was not some sort of random killing but was carried out as an assassination of someone hated by the Religious Right.

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism by Shannyn Moore at Huff Post May 31, 2009

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism.

It's shocking to write. But it's time to start calling it what it is.

When Jim D. Adkisson walked into the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church with 76 rounds and a shot-gun, he killed 2 people and was charged with murder. His motive was "he hated the liberal movement" and was upset with "liberals in general as well as gays." He should have been charged with terrorism.

...The right wing media hacks make targets of the left. The fundamentalist reverends blather their intolerance of other Americans. Their marriages are in jeopardy if the GLBT community can walk down an aisle. Their children are going to be molested if you have to rent to a same sex couple. Fear...fear...fear the queer.

Bill O'Reilly's hit piece on Dr. Tiller is a training tape for Christian Fundamentalist Terrorists. Never did he ask the woman interviewed how she, as a 13 year old, got pregnant, who was the father, or where her parents were when she underwent an abortion at Dr. Tiller's clinic. I'm sure O'Reilly's drivel will insist on personal accountability for the murderer. I'm sure he won't be in line for any "accountability" for calling the doctor "Tiller the baby-killer" or his clinic a "death mill."

Are anti-choice groups celebrating today? An abortion doctor is dead so women won't have unwanted pregnancies!

The "war on terror" needs to include domestic religious, fundamentalist terrorists.
Who is next?

and so it goes,
GORD.
