Every Christmas the Christian Evangelical Religious Right and uberconservatives led by Bill O'Reilly try to convince everyone that Liberals and atheists are involved in a War on Christmas.
And every year as I go out into the malls and Wall Mart there are Christmas decorations and gifts for sale most stores are decorated for Christmas , the houses on my street and throughout the area are decorated for Christmas. So I keep looking for those mobs of atheists protesting against Christmas and every year I can't find them.
Every year the schools put on Christmas concerts whether held at the schools themselves or some non-school related auditorium . On the TV there are these stories about Christmas and people sing Christmas songs which one also hears played in most of the stores I visit. Then there are the Christmas Santa Claus parades held in each and every town in the area.
So where is this draconian evil War on Christmas taking place outside the minds of paranoid right wingers like Bill O'Reilly. Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and others ?
The so-called war on Christmas seems to come down to some stores such as WalMart making their employees say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.
In most towns or cities across Canada and across America Christmas trees are put up near city hall even the the White House and the Canadian Parliament erects a Christmas tree with some formal lighting ceremony. So where's the war on Christmas. If I or anyone else says Merry Christmas to clerks in stores or even in Walmart we don't get tazed or arrested for doing so.
So where is this war on Christmas.
Fox News and conservatives go overboard in their critique of latest Muppet movie as part of what they consider to be the liberal/secular humanists plot to brain wash the children of America. The movie is a children's movie in which the bad guy is an oil mogul which Fox News says is unfair to Big Oil and is an attack on the oil industry and capitalism.
It always strikes me as odd that these uberconservative Christians are on the one hand claiming there is a War on Christmas and a secular humanists or liberal plot to denigrate religion especially the Christian Religion while at the same time they argue in favor of greed, materialism, wealth , money and power as more important than having a sense of community or respecting the rights of all citizens not just the wealthy or successful.
Every Christmas these uberconservative Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus and yet ignore his teachings on wealth and the poor and doing the right thing that is helping other members of the community especially those who for whatever reason are less fortunate. All we hear from these characters at Fox News and those like Newt Gingrich Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, O'Reilly, Limbaugh , Ann Coulter or Pastor Hagee is that the poor are just lazy good for nothing bums and leeches. Of course for many uberconservative Christians they see the rich and powerful as God's chosen that is the elect or the visible Saints who are meant to rule in the Shining City on The Hill ie America. The wealthy are fortunate because their greed is sanctified by the Christian God while those less fortunate are being punished by God and this is why the rich and powerful see no need or responsibility on their part to help out other members of their community.
Instead like Scrooge and Mr. Potter they pay homage to their God of Greed and materialism and so their Idol is not Jesus of Nazareth but rather the Almighty dollar or Gold etc.
Their Holy of Holies is not in Jerusalem but on Wall Street .
In the end they appeal to their twisted perverted form of Christianity to give themselves permission and an excuse to ignore the needs of their fellow citizens in favor of their pursuit of wealth and power.
Being close the Christmas it brings to mind traditional holiday movies which also have a message some subtle some not so subtle. For instance the 1940s film It's A Wonderful Life given the conservative views should be banned or come with a warning of being anti-capitalism. George Bailey the main character in the film played by Jimmy Stewart runs a credit union style bank which is set up not to purely make a large profit but to help others in the community to own their own homes through low interest rate mortgages. All of the members of the Bailey Savings and loan are also part owners of the company. The bad guy in the film is Mr. Potter who is a greedy, stingy, conniving ,dishonest opportunists who's only real interests is making more money at the expense of others.
George Bailey has a revelation as it were that money isn't everything and being rich does not necessarily lead to happiness. The point of the film has to do with the notion of what constitutes a civilized community that is one of cooperation sharing and caring about one another. Whereas Mr. potter's notion of community is that of hyper competition winners versus losers and that each person is free to ruthlessly compete with the other members of the community. Frank Capra for this film and others was designated as a communists who was anti-capitalism and unAmerican.
Another popular holiday story and movie is Charles Dickens Christmas Carroll in which the protagonists is Ebeneezer scrooge who is a lot like Mr. Potter stingy greedy with no sense of community or family. He has no pity for those in need . Scrooge is a shrewd business man for whom money is his religion and his idol.As everyone knows Scrooge also has a revelation realizing that there is more to life than the acquisition of wealth .
another classic Christmas film is The Bishop's Wife -Gary Grant plays the angel who has come to help the Bishop played by David Niven-in a nutshell the Bishop has lost his way erroneously believing that building great Cathedrals is more important to God than family or community and helping those in need instead he spends his time kow-towing to the wealthy in order to get more funds to build his great cathedral.
There are many examples of Holiday films or TV shows that also have some sort of Christian message . What it seems to be is that those who belong to particular Christian sects or individuals are bothered because the message may not fit into their sectarian view of Christmas.
For instance the story and film The Grinch Who Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss teaches that Christmas is not merely about decorations or gifts but about caring and sharing and that what matters is friends, family and community and so rejects materialism or consumerism.
You would think these Pro-Family, Pro-Life Christians would approve of such messages but they don't since their God is a God of Greed and selfishness.

Note they also mention the children 's film Cars 2 as liberal propaganda along with various characters on Sesame Street
They forgot films such as "Happy Feet" and Wal-E or Pocahontas and adult films such as Avatar which have environmental message and the brutality brought upon native Cultures by greedy entrepreneurs who treat those unlike themselves as therefore inferior or as subhuman like the Native Americans who were wiped off the earth except for a small remnant.
They also mention the adult films Syrianna and There will Be Blood which they claim to be attacks on Big Oil.
But Syrianna is about corruption, greed and the American Empire's lack of concern for the sovereignty of other countries and peoples. American and Western business people believe that they have the right to all of the natural resources on the planet at a price and volume they set as opposed to what those peoples and countries decide. Shouldn't each nation and its peoples be in control of their natural resources along with their labor.
The US government even under Obama believes the US has a God Given right to take what it wants at a price it chooses.

Meanwhile with all of the serious issues confronting the American people and its government the political and religious right is more concerned about proving that president Obama's birth certificate is fake and therefore Obama has no right to be president and should be removed from office or at least not permitted to run in the 2012 Presidential election.
Pseudo historian birther Jerome Corsi believes that notorious Sheriff Arpaio is a true patriot on a Hoyl Quest to uncover the truth about President Obama.
Sheriff Arpaio has been accused of misusing funds to go after illegal-immigrants .
While concentrating on the illegal immigrants situation and on the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate he has reneged on his duty as a law enforcer by not persuing some 400 cases of sexual assault cases reported to his office by illegal immigrants in Arizona.

Maverick Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his "Cold Case Posse" investigating Barack Obama's presidential eligibility will release a preliminary report in February of its findings, which he expects to be "controversial."
"This is a serious law enforcement investigation, and our findings are going to be controversial but based in facts," the Maricopa County sheriff told WND. Arpaio said a comprehensive report will be issued shortly after the February preliminary report.
...Arpaio is determined to bring the Obama investigation to a successful conclusion.
"The American people deserve to know the truth about Obama," Arpaio said. "We are a major law enforcement agency – one of the largest in the nation – and we have at our disposal investigative tools not generally available, even to the top private investigator in the country. We don't plan to stop until we discover the truth."

Media-hungry Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who just last week complained about a supposed “black out” on news of his investigation into the validity of President Obama’s birth certificate, is finally getting the media coverage he deserves.
In a lengthy and widely circulated story, the Associated Press yesterday revealed that the 79-year-old Arizona sheriff’s office “inadequately investigated” more than 400 sex-crime cases that were reported to it between 2005 and 2007.
Investigators in the town of El Mirage, which paid Arpaio’s office $2.7 million for police protection during those years, say that an “overwhelming majority” of the cases they reviewed – including at least 32 involving child molestation – hadn’t been worked at all. Many of the victims, including a 3-year-old reportedly molested by her father, were children of undocumented immigrants.
