Glenn Beck & Friends Fears a Leftist Insurrection & Hopes For Another 9/11 Attack & other Bits of Right Wing Insanity

Anyway for a bit of good news The Young Turks have reached the 100 million threshold of Website hits.

Meanwhile the right wing is continuing with its extremist rhetoric & fear mongering. Glenn Beck is now claiming that the left in the America are planning an insurrection. Beck claims he has proof because he found a leftist tract or book "The Coming Insurrection" which is a how to handbook which details how to carry out an insurrection. The book in question also provides information on how to make home-made bombs & what & who to target.

Extreme Left Calling People to Arms

Right wing extremists for decades have been publishing tracts similar to the one talked about by Glenn Beck. Such as the notorious " The Turner Diaries" by Andrew Macdonald which is available on the Net & at YouTube.

The Turner Diaries is a fear mongering racist tract which warns of a coming race war brought about by non-white minorities taking control of America by using the Mass Media to spread anti-white propaganda. There are in fact extremist who take The Turner Diaries seriously & some of these people have committed acts of violence such as Timothy McVeigh the Oklahoma City bomber. There are also others who in the future will act out the sort of fantasy as presented in the Turner Diaries. But this does not mean that there are tens of thousands or millions of Americans on the right who are about to start a violent insurrection.

Glenn Beck goes from the fact that this leftist tract exists to fear mongering about a non-existent underground army of thousands of anarchists ready to take over the United States. The existence of this book "The Coming Insurrection" is not clear evidence of a future massive insurrection . It does prove that there are leftist extremists & anarchists in America but like the right extremist they are in fact a minority. What is of importance is why Glenn Beck would go on television & make such fantastic claims is he again trying to not merely defend the conservative movement but wants to take the fight to the streets because these leftist extremists are everywhere just waiting for their moment to take complete control of the nation. Once again the right is developing another conspiracy theory and is promulgating the notion that America is on the brink of destruction or at least a civil war.

Right-Wing Insanity: Former CIA Official Wishes for Terrorist Attack on U.S. (!)
by Steve Benen, Think Progress, July 1, 2009.

Former CIA official Michael Scheuer has taken some provocative policy positions over the years, but I never thought he'd go this far.

Talking with Fox News' Glenn Beck, Scheuer argues, "The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama Bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States --- because it's gonna take a grassroots, bottom up pressure -- because these politicians prize their offices, prize the praise of the media, and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again, only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently and with as much violence as necessary."

and more from Glenn Beck on American Exceptionalism & rewriting U.S. history- or just cherry picking history to make his point of the entrepreneurial spirit of great American industrialist such as Henry Ford. So is Glenn Beck unaware of Ford's Dark Side which I discussed in my last post. Does Beck think the fact that Henry Ford was anti-semitic is of no real consequence. Beck holds Henry Ford up as the archetypal true American yet Ford received a medal of honor from Hitler's Nazi Regime in 1938. Ford as I have mentioned set up various subsidiaries to his corporation in Germany & Austria to help Hitler rebuild Germany's war machine. Does Beck know that Ford after the war tried to get payments from the US government for the damage done by the Allies to his factories in Germany & Austria. Does he know that Henry Ford's factories in the US which were contracted to build military planes was accused of purposely under performing & possibly over charging for the work that was done ( sounds a lot like Haliburton). Does he know that Senate hearings that Ford's corporation & others were found guilty of war profiteering & for supplying materials & doing work for the Germans which was by law forbidden. Do none of these facts have any meaning for Glenn Beck or does he like other Conservatives believe that companies or corporations have no duty towards their own government & the people of the United States.

Olbermann Blasts Missouri Republican-June 29, 2009

"Republican Missouri Rep, Derides Gov. Spending to Feed Hungry Children: They can Get Free Food at Church or Get a Job!" June 22, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Cynthia Davis, a conservative Christian Republican State Rep. from Missouri, is against government spending to feed hungry children during the summer, claiming if they were allowed to go hungry, children old enough would be more likely to get a job so they can eat. “Hunger can be a positive motivator,” declared Davis, in her weekly Capitol Report column that is a case study in conservative callousness towards the poor.

In a bizarre display of tone-deafness, which is extreme even by the standards of the most hard-hearted of conservatives who are against government “hand outs’ of any kind, Rep. Davis railed against an innocuous press release announcing Missouri’s Summer Food Service Program, which plans to feed thousands of low-income children during the summer months.

Taking issue with the premise that the recession makes summer food programs more important than ever, Davis believes “[t]he reverse may be true,” because families can economize by doing without twinkies and chips and thereby save money to buy beans to feed their children. She accuses government officials of using the economic “crisis” (she added the quote marks) as an excuse for more government spending of her tax dollars.

How dare the government spend her hard earned tax dollars to feed poor children? Outraged that the summer program cost $9.8 million, “[t]hat money is coming from us,” said Davis. She proposes that hungry children instead, should be forced to rely on the charity of friends and neighbors and go to church for a free meal, like “…they did when Louisiana had a hurricane,” helpfully added Davis.

She disputes the notion that some parents are unable to provide nutritious food to their children, but even if that’s true, Davis doesn’t want to pay to feed them, saying “…who created a new rule that says government must make up for any lack at home?”

and the Southern Poverty Law Center has released a report detailing the right wing extremists and their Domestic Terrorist activities since 1995 t0 2009.

New SPLC Report Details 75 Radical Plots, Rampages
Posted in Anti-Immigrant, White Supremacist by Mark Potok on July 1, 2009

It’s been a remarkable few months in the world of domestic terrorism and the radical right. Since the election of Barack Obama last November, six law enforcement officers — three Pittsburgh police officers, two Okaloosa County, Fla., sheriff’s deputies, and a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. — have been murdered, allegedly by right-wing extremists. There has been a spate of Obama assassination plots, and a physician who provided abortions was shot to death in his own Kansas church. And a number of recent reports from federal and other law enforcement agencies have pointed out that the radical right seems to be growing increasingly dangerous, findings that jibe with a February analysis by the Southern Poverty Law Center that documents the rise of hate groups since 2000.

Terror from the Right
75 plots, conspiracies and racist rampages since Oklahoma City" at Southern Poverty Law Center,June 2009

At 9:02 a.m. on April 19, 1995, a 7,000-pound truck bomb, constructed of ammonium nitrate fertilizer and nitromethane racing fuel and packed into 13 plastic barrels, ripped through the heart of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The explosion wrecked much of downtown Oklahoma City and killed 168 people, including 19 children in a day-care center. Another 500 were injured. Although many Americans initially suspected an attack by Middle Eastern radicals, it quickly became clear that the mass murder had actually been carried out by domestic, right-wing terrorists.

The slaughter engineered by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, men steeped in the conspiracy theories and white-hot fury of the American radical right, marked the opening shot in a new kind of domestic political extremism — a revolutionary ideology whose practitioners do not hesitate to carry out attacks directed at entirely innocent victims, people selected essentially at random to make a political point. After Oklahoma, it was no longer sufficient for many American right-wing terrorists to strike at a target of political significance — instead, they reached for higher and higher body counts, reasoning that they had to eclipse McVeigh's attack to win attention.

What follows is a detailed listing of major terrorist plots and racist rampages that have emerged from the American radical right in the years since Oklahoma City. These have included plans to bomb government buildings, banks, refineries, utilities, clinics, synagogues, mosques, memorials and bridges; to assassinate police officers, judges, politicians, civil rights figures and others; to rob banks, armored cars and other criminals; and to amass illegal machine guns, missiles, explosives and biological and chemical weapons. Each of these plots aimed to make changes in America through the use of political violence. Most contemplated the deaths of large numbers of people — in one case, as many as 30,000, or 10 times the number murdered on Sept. 11, 2001.

and so it goes,
GORD.
