Israel Getting Away with War Crimes and Muder - President Obama's Shame

Israeli War Crimes
Attacking Non-military targets : schools, civilian shelters, hospitals, clinics, medical personnel
A callous disregard for the Civilian Population
denying medical or other humanitarian aid to civilian casualties
Deliberately & wantonly destroying the residences of civilians
Deliberately targeting Humanitarian aid and Human Rights organizations targeted
Deliberately killing civilians
Deliberately destroying infrastructure
Deliberately targeting members of the Press to silence them

Anyway Gaza has been left in ruins after Israel's bombardment and invasion of Gaza.

Ban Ki-moon calls attack on UN building 'outrageous'

Israel is accused of a disproportionate response. But Israeli forces the IDF are also accused of committing various War Crimes from attacking densely populated areas with massive shelling and gunfire while doing little or nothing to avoid killing innocent civilians. They are also accused of collective punishment of a population for the actions of a few. The Israelis are accused of bombing clearly marked UN run schools and shelters for civilians. They are accused of attacking hospitals and clinics and ambulances and firing on medical personnel while trying to carry out their duties. The Israelis are further accused of deliberately killing civilians. They are also accused of using people as human shields in which the Israeli take over a house or apartment building in Gaza move all the civilians to one part of the building as the Israelis use the building from which to shoot at Hamas' combatants Hamas fighters are then reluctant to shoot back in case they kill innocent Gazan civilians. The Israelis are also accused of shirking their responsibility of taking care of wounded civilians and wounded combatants in a timely fashion. Instead they stood by doing nothing while wounded civilians were left to die. Helping the wounded in Gaza according to the Israelis is not their responsibility though the Geneva Conventions explicitly states otherwise.

The Israelis have also been accused of illegally using weapons such as Phosphorus similar to Napalm and other weapons on combatants and civilians. These weapons are only to be used under certain restrictions but not on combatants or noncombatants.

The Israelis have over the decades developed a callous indifference to the Palestinians - which includes the people of Gaza and the West Bank and the Occupied territories. They have developed a mindset in which they are able to commit without any sense of guilt or shame the most violent egregious acts against what they believe to be a hostile population . All members of that population of Arabs or Palestinians the Israelis believe are terrorists or give support to terrorist and therefore there is in their perception no distinctions to be made between combatants and non-combatants since all are the enemy who must be destroyed or kept under the iron fist of the Israeli government and military forces.

Part of the problem is convincing the US administration to give the United Nations and other International Agencies support for impartial investigations into these alleged War Crimes of the Israeli government and forces. President Obama has taken some major steps in the past week in trying to change America's actions and to attempt to rebuild America's reputation . But when it comes to Gaza and Israel he seems to have a blind spot and certain preconceptions about this situation which do not fit with the facts on the ground .

This is a real problem for President Obama who appears to have little if any sympathy for the people of Gaza. Given America's historical stance on Israel in which America has supported Israel unconditionally ; it would take a great deal of courage on President Obama's part to even suggest some criticisms of how the Israelis and their forces conducted themselves in Gaza .

When it comes to the Palestinians the American public , the media and the government is blind to any wrongs that might have recently or in the past been done to these people by the Israelis. The American mindset as it were always sees Israel as the victim and the Palestinians or other Arabs as the perpetrators of the worse violence in the Middle East. As usual in America's simplistic view of the world there are those who are on the side of the good and those on the side of evil and there is no room for gray areas or that the ones America has decided to support may also be guilty of egregious crimes for which they too must be held accountable.

The question President Obama should be pondering is whether Israel in its latest conflict represent the " Rule Of Law " does it represents what Obama call America's founding principles , ideals and values . Is superior military force the only way to resolve issues with those who have little or no defense capabilities.

If Obama were to seriously ponder this difficult issue it might lead to consider America's use of overwhelming force in Iraq or elsewhere . Historically America has treated the world as if it were the final arbiter of what is right or wrong and what is to be permitted. It is time for America to stop acting unilaterally and as if what is good for America or what is in America's interest is therefore what is good for the world or is in the interests of all peoples.

But it is difficult for President Obama who seems under the spell of the Israeli Myth that it is a democratic egalitarian society which acts according to the basic values of a civilized nation even in times of conflict and that it is sincerely interested in the Road Map to Peace. Israel does want to give up any real territory except in some symbolic fashion . What lands Israel occupied illegally in the Six Day War it wishes to keep much of it. If Israel was interested in Peace it would give up on its claims to the occupied territories which Israel refers to as "disputed Territories ". And it appears President Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are willing to defend Israel no matter what. Is this just to please the ultraconservatives and the Religious Right in America who believe Israel should expand to the borders of Eretz Israel as described in the Book of Genesis. As Evangelicals are Clinton and Obama bound by this Biblical view of Israel and so are unable to look at Israel in some impartial and reasonable manner since it is tied into their own religious preconceptions which goes far beyond the creation of the State of Israel by the United Nations in 1948 by human beings and not by some otherworldly forces ie. angels or Prophets.

CH4 NEWS: Blatant evidence of Israeli war crimes in GAZA- Jan 23, 2009

Blatant proof of illegal weapons being used in densely populated areas, people responsible need to be taken to the Hague now!

Israeli Army Had 'Fun' Destroying Gaza (CNN)-Jan.22/2009
CNN's Ben Wedeman reports on the devastation left in Gaza after three weeks of bombing.

Israeli Military Leader admits to Genocide & War Crimes
He says "Gazans locked inside a Ghetto and we the Israelis treat the Palestinians as animals..."
Every crime committed by Ariel Sharon & Israel has been supported and paid for by the USA! And when the UN Security Council convenes to condemn Israel's genocide & crimes against humanity, the USA steps in to veto!

Maybe most Americans dont know this, but every Muslim in the world has it engraved in their heart as the most grotesque injustice & unfairness & unbalanced policy anywhere in the world: This unending & bottomless support the American government gives to Israel!

One wonders is whether this sort of action brings a smile to Hillary Clinton and her AIPAC supporters is Obama even faintly aware of the sorts of Actions Israel takes part in supported by the American Government - This is one of the reasons many supporters of Obama wish he had chosen some people who might be more even handed when it comes to Israel and the Palestinian Situation. Will Israel only be happy when all the Palestinians leave or are killed . It reminds one of the so called heroes of America in the 18th and 19 th centuries who rationalized the mass murder of millions of aboriginal Americans. Is it just that being an American that it is impossible to see beyond the security of Israel and see the suffering of the Palestinians . So a form of racism is still promoted without any reservation by the American Media and the American government. This is undoubtedly a war crime that is to collectively punish a whole people for the actions of a few.

Gaza wiped off the map
Another excellent report by Jonathan Miller. Telling the story of destruction and the killing in Gaza

Even the BBC has little love or sympathy for the innocent civilians of Gaza who are suffering after Israel's latest invasion and destruction of much of Gaza. Whatever one 's opion on the conflict in Gaza you would think that anyone with some sense of human decency would want to help the innocent victims of this conflict. Bur it appears that all Gazans are seen as potential terrorists and so are not deserving of the West's pity as it were. So I guess the BBC and those who hate Hamas and support Israel unconditionally believe some people deserve humane treatment while others deserve to suffer languish and finally succumb to starvation and lack of medical aid and hopefully will do the BBC and the European people's a service and just quietly die off .

BBC refuses to show Gaza appeal" Media With Conscience/ Jan. 24, 2009

The British Broadcasting Corporation has defended its decision not to participate in a television fund-raising appeal for Gaza, saying it did want to avoid compromising public confidence in its impartiality.

Normally all broadcasters show Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeals without charge, but in a statement on Friday, the BBC said: "Along with other broadcasters, the BBC has decided not to broadcast the DEC's public appeal to raise funds for Gaza.

"The BBC's decision was made because of question marks about the delivery of aid in a volatile situation, and also to avoid any risk of compromising public confidence in the BBC's impartiality in the context of an ongoing news story."

DEC 'unhappy'

The DEC is an umbrella organisation representing a number of aid agencies, including Action Aid, Save the Children, the British Red Cross, Islamic Relief and Oxfam.

The organisation said its members will be providing immediate humanitarian aid, such as medicine, food and blankets, and will be involved in reconstruction in Gaza.

Brendan Gormley, chief executive of the DEC, said he was unhappy about losing the ability to broadcast the DEC's appeal into people's homes.

Tony Benn TELLS OFF THE BBC!!!

Source BBC News website, 24.01.09: Tony Benn voices an honest and compassionate opinion on the BBC's poor decision not to broadcast a Gaza Charity Appeal, so he did it himself!!! Well done Sir, thank you!!! CREDIT to my fellow comrade, you know who you are :o)

And this time around the Israelis are getting ready for any accusations of War Crimes . The Israelis are not going to accept even for a moment that their forces the IDF committed War Crimes. If Israel wants to be seen as a country interested in justice then if such crimes were committed they should own up to it and take responsibility and punish those responsible in an appropriate manner. But this will not happen because Israel believes it is above the law and does not recognize International Laws and views the United Nations and other human rights groups and humanitarian aid groups as their enemy. The seem to believe that people working for the UN in Gaza are not impartial and are pro-Palestinian and may even act as spies for Hamas or may even be supplying Hamas with weapons or other assistance. The Israeli believe that if the UN or Red Cross give medical aid to Hamas fighters or civilians who might support Hamas they conclude that the Red Cross and other agencies are really anti-Israel. But it appears that a large proportion of the people in Gaza or the West Bank are also suspect these organizations to be working in league with the Israelis and Americans. ( see for instance Philip. C. Winslow's book Victory For Us Is To See You Suffer: In the West Bank with the Palestinians and the Israelis pub. 2007)

"Israel forms war crime defence team "Media With Conscience/ Jan.24, 2009

Daniel Friedman, the Israeli justice minister, has been appointed to lead a defence team should war crimes charges be brought following the 22-day war on Gaza.

Mark Regev, a spokesman for the Israeli prime minister, confirmed on Friday that Friedman would lead an inter-ministerial team to co-ordinate a legal defence for civilians and the military.

Israel has been criticised by many human rights organisations for using excessive force, including flame-generating chemical munitions, in densely populated areas during its aerial, naval and ground assault on the coastal strip, which began on December 27.

The Israeli army has already banned the publication of the identity of military leaders who fought Hamas in Gaza.

Ali Kashan, the Palestinian justice minister, met Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, in The Hague on Thursday to discuss "allegations of crimes", a special adviser to the prosecutor said.

Gaza medics put the death toll in Gaza at 1,330 with at least 5,450 wounded following Israel's attacks. About 65 per cent of the dead were civilians, including 400 children and 100 women.

Eight Israeli human rights groups have called on the Israeli government to investigate allegations of war crimes given the scale of the casualties, describing the number of dead women and children as "terrifying".

Richard Falk, a UN human rights expert, said on Thursday that there was evidence that Israel violated humanitarian law by conducting the offensive "against an essentially defenseless population".

" Gaza crisis centered on Clinton's diplomacy agenda" www.chinaview.cn / Jan. 24, 2009

...the policy on the Palestinian militant group of Hamas would not be bargained, according to Wood, Clinton has "made very clear what Hamas needed to do if it was going to play a constructive role in the region."

"The president-elect and I understand and are deeply sympathetic to Israel's desire to defend itself under the current conditions, and to be free of shelling by Hamas rockets," Clinton said last Tuesday in a hearing held by the Senate Foreign Relations committee.

"However, we have also been reminded of the tragic humanitarian costs of conflict in the Middle East and pained by the suffering of Palestinian and Israeli civilians," Clinton said.

Obama said on Thursday that he will send the Middle East envoy George Mitchell to the region as soon as possible, in an effort to "help the parties ensure that the cease-fire that has been achieved is made durable and sustainable."

"It will be the policy of my administration to actively and aggressively seek a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians as well as Israel and its Arab neighbors," Obama said at the appointment ceremony for Mitchell.

According to Obama, in order to reach the durable cease-fire, Hamas must end its rocket attacks, Israel must complete the withdrawal of its troops from the Gaza Strip, and the international community must take effective measures to prevent Hamas from rearming.

The president, just like his predecessors, reiterated the steady support for Israel. "Let me be clear: America is committed to Israel's security. And we will always support Israel's right to defend itself against legitimate threats."

Is Israel getting away with murder? After being accused of killing civilians who had their hands up showing they were not a threat Israel spokesperson describes the event if it occurred as " inappropriate " rather than a serious crime . So if it occurred they'll put those soldiers what in time out a slap on the wrist. As we know the Israelis claim that they are not bound by international law since these agreements are the result of a conspiracy by the UN and the International Community to try to prevent Israel from defending itself . Unfortunately many American including President Obama are too afraid to insist that Israel abide by the Geneva Conventions for this would lead to President Obama and America of being anti-Israel and anti-Semitic. But then again America has especially in the last eight years itself shown a disregard and disdain for the Geneva Conventions as it obliterated whole cities in Iraq and abused and tortured thousands of detainees. America's War on Terror has merely led to more terror and more hatred of America. The problem for other countries in the West is that those who hate America see America in its actions as representing Western Values and Western Civilization. If America makes excuses and defends Israel even when Israel has committed atrocities then those who are angered by these actions see them as representing the countries of the West.

" Israel Accused of Executing Parents in Front of Children in Gaza"By Murray Wardrop "The Telegraph.co.uk" Jan. 21, 2009

Israel has refuted allegations of war atrocities in Gaza after Palestinian children described how their parents had been "executed" by Israeli troops.

-- One nine-year-old boy said his father had been shot dead in front of him despite surrendering to Israeli soldiers with his hands in the air.

Another youngster described witnessing the deaths of his mother, three brothers and uncle after the house they were in was shelled.

He said his mother and one of his siblings had been killed instantly, while the others bled to death over a period of days.

A psychiatrist treating children in the village of Zeitoun on the outskirts of Gaza City, where the alleged incidents took place, described the deaths as a "massacre".

Rawya Borno, a Jordanian doctor, said civilians, including children, were rounded up and killed by Israeli troops.

Israel has denied the claims, dismissing them as Hamas propaganda, but said that an investigation is being conducted into soldiers' conduct in the area.

In interviews with ITV News, Palestinians claimed that Israeli forces knowingly killed civilians in Zeitoun on the morning of Jan 14.

Abdullah Samouni, nine, described the moment his father was allegedly "executed" by Israeli soldiers.

Holding his arms in the air, he said: "He was surrendering like this. My father came out and they shot him right away."

A boy named Ahmed said he was trapped for days in the wreckage of the shelled Samouni family's house.

He said: "My mother was dead beside me, she was clutching my brother Nasser and they were dead. My brother Itzaq was bleeding for two days and then he died. My brother Izmael bled to death in one day. My uncle Talal was bleeding for two hours and he died. God bless them."

Dr Borno said: "It's a massacre. They collected them from their houses. They knew that they were civilians. They were children."

When asked if Hamas had been in Zeitoun, Dr Borno replied: "Suppose that there is one of the fighters around, what is it to do with all these? Is the price to kill the family as a whole? Is this baby carrying a machine gun?"

"So Far, Obama's Missed The Point on Gaza..."

by Robert Fisk, The Independent, Jan. 22, 2009

...It would have helped if Obama had the courage to talk about what everyone in the Middle East was talking about. No, it wasn't the US withdrawal from Iraq. They knew about that. They expected the beginning of the end of Guantanamo and the probable appointment of George Mitchell as a Middle East envoy was the least that was expected. Of course, Obama did refer to "slaughtered innocents", but these were not quite the "slaughtered innocents" the Arabs had in mind.

There was the phone call yesterday to Mahmoud Abbas. Maybe Obama thinks he's the leader of the Palestinians, but as every Arab knows, except perhaps Mr Abbas, he is the leader of a ghost government, a near-corpse only kept alive with the blood transfusion of international support and the "full partnership" Obama has apparently offered him, whatever "full" means. And it was no surprise to anyone that Obama also made the obligatory call to the Israelis.

But for the people of the Middle East, the absence of the word "Gaza" - indeed, the word "Israel" as well - was the dark shadow over Obama's inaugural address. Didn't he care? Was he frightened? Did Obama's young speech-writer not realise that talking about black rights - why a black man's father might not have been served in a restaurant 60 years ago - would concentrate Arab minds on the fate of a people who gained the vote only three years ago but were then punished because they voted for the wrong people? It wasn't a question of the elephant in the china shop. It was the sheer amount of corpses heaped up on the floor of the china shop.

Sure, it's easy to be cynical. Arab rhetoric has something in common with Obama's clichés: "hard work and honesty, courage and fair play ... loyalty and patriotism". But however much distance the new President put between himself and the vicious regime he was replacing, 9/11 still hung like a cloud over New York. We had to remember "the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke". Indeed, for Arabs, the "our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred" was pure Bush; the one reference to "terror", the old Bush and Israeli fear word, was a worrying sign that the new White House still hasn't got the message. Hence we had Obama, apparently talking about Islamist groups such as the Taliban who were "slaughtering innocents" but who "cannot outlast us". As for those in the speech who are corrupt and who "silence dissent", presumably intended to be the Iranian government, most Arabs would associate this habit with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt (who also, of course, received a phone call from Obama yesterday), King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and a host of other autocrats and head-choppers who are supposed to be America's friends in the Middle East.

Hanan Ashrawi got it right. The changes in the Middle East - justice for the Palestinians, security for the Palestinians as well as for the Israelis, an end to the illegal building of settlements for Jews and Jews only on Arab land, an end to all violence, not just the Arab variety - had to be "immediate" she said, at once. But if the gentle George Mitchell's appointment was meant to answer this demand, the inaugural speech, a real "B-minus" in the Middle East, did not.

The friendly message to Muslims, "a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect", simply did not address the pictures of the Gaza bloodbath at which the world has been staring in outrage. Yes, the Arabs and many other Muslim nations, and, of course, most of the world, can rejoice that the awful Bush has gone. So, too, Guantanamo. But will Bush's torturers and Rumsfeld's torturers be punished? Or quietly promoted to a job where they don't have to use water and cloths, and listen to men screaming?

Sure, give the man a chance. Maybe George Mitchell will talk to Hamas - he's just the man to try - but what will the old failures such as Denis Ross have to say, and Rahm Emanuel and, indeed, Robert Gates and Hillary Clinton? More a sermon than an Obama inaugural, even the Palestinians in Damascus spotted the absence of those two words: Palestine and Israel. So hot to touch they were, and on a freezing Washington day, Obama wasn't even wearing gloves.

Gaza Aftermath
by Dan Lieberman Media With Conscience Jan. 23, 2009

Digging out the pulverized ruins of Gaza revealed the extent of damage to the Palestinian community. Still not revealed are exact reasons for Israel’s attack, its sudden willingness to halt the damage and what awaits a shaken Middle East in the future. Clues that contradict the given reason for the attack - rockets hitting Israeli soil – are: (1) rockets have been hitting southern Israel since 2002, (2) the initial rocket barrage caused no casualties, and (3) the intensive emphasis on the rocket attacks as the reason for Israel’s overly aggressive counterpunch, with almost all Israelis and foreign newspapers reciting that theme, seemed too arranged, concerted propaganda, and an attempt to disguise more valid explanations.

Regardless of the conflicting views of events, an inevitable drift to war was set in motion for one overriding reason; Israel, International institutions and western nations refused to talk with Hamas.

A legitimately elected government requested halts to a punishing blockade and to attacks on its citizens in the West Bank and Gaza. Silence. More pleading and more silence. Finally militants fire an uncontrollable a salvo of rockets, positioned so no fatalities could occur; alerting Israel and a complacent world that Hamas could no longer permit its people to be starved into surrender.

Hamas’ demands deserved discussion. Instead, Israel responded with missile strikes, which instantly killed 250 Palestinians, assured retaliating rockets would finally kill Israelis and signaled an eventual violence against Gazans and a politically motivated invasion of the territory.

and as the author notes in reference to Hamas ' military capability it was for all intents and purposes non-existent

...Israel’s complaint of extensive arms smuggling was proving doubtful

Similar to the 2006 invasion of Lebanon, Israeli forces slowly learned they had had nowhere to go except to kill more civilians. The Israeli forces neither exhibited many destroyed rocket launchers nor demonstrated harm to the supposed 10,000 Hamas armed insurgents. Except for the longer range Grad rockets, many of the rockets and mortars that shelled Israel were homemade devices. Therefore only the Grad rockets and some Qassam rockets, few of which did much damage, were smuggled into Gaza. Hamas demonstrated no military capability; that is no capability and not just limited capability– no surface to air missiles, no anti-tank rockets, no organized attacks on invading soldiers. Media descriptions of coming battles never materialized. Fighting, which requires two combatants, was an exaggerated word. Israeli forces moved forward without much fear of attack and with only ten reported deaths, of which five were accidental. Since Hamas didn’t display many weapons with which to fight, how much smuggling of meaningful armaments could have occurred? Neither facts nor images supported reports of weapons caches and weapons destruction. Israel’s soldiers must have felt contrite and questioned what they were doing.

-------------------------
Once again we have an article comparing the Algierian insurgency against the French to the Israeli Gaza conflict

" Hamas Fights on Uneven Battlefield " by Thalif Deen/ Inter Press Service, Jan.23, 2009

... - In the 1967 movie classic the "Battle of Algiers", which recreated Algeria's war of independence against France, a handcuffed and shackled insurgent leader, Ben M'Hidi, is brought before a group of highly-partisan French journalists for intense interrogation.

One of the journalists asks M'Hidi: "Don't you think it is a bit cowardly to use women's handbags and baskets to carry explosive devices that kill so many innocent people [in cafes and night clubs]?"

Responding with equal bluntness, the Algerian insurgent retorts: "And doesn't it seem to you even more cowardly to drop napalm bombs on unarmed villages on a thousand times more innocent victims?"

"Of course, if we had your fighter planes, it would be a lot easier for us," he adds. "Give us your bombers, and you can have our handbags and baskets."

Like the Algerian insurgents, Hamas militants were not fighting on a level battle field - as the Israeli military unleashed its massive firepower on a virtually defenceless population in Gaza, killing over 1,300 Palestinians in the 22-day conflict.

"Perhaps it would be interesting to see the roles reversed: the Palestinians with American fighter planes and battle tanks and the Israelis with homemade rockets," says one Arab diplomat, striking a parallel with the Algerian insurgency.

Besides F-16 fighter planes, the Israelis also used a wide array of U.S. weaponry, including Apache helicopters, M60 battle tanks, armoured personnel carriers and heavy artillery.

Frida Berrigan, a senior research associate with the Arms Trade Resource Centre at the World Policy Institute, points out that the bulk of Israel's current arsenal is composed of military equipment supplied under U.S. assistance programmes.

Israel, she said, has been supplied with 226 F-16 fighter planes and attack jets, more than 700 M60 battle tanks, 6,000 armoured personnel carriers and scores of transport planes, attack helicopters and utility and training aircraft, bombs and tactical missiles of all kinds.

In contrast, the hundreds of erratic rockets used by Hamas were so crude that most of them missed their targets.

"Israel has enormous military resources," says Dr. Natalie Goldring, a senior research fellow with the Centre for Peace and Security Studies in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

and so it goes,
GORD.

Right Wing Media and Hate Radio Attack Obama Still Spewing their Lies and Propaganda and Fear Mongering

Anyway let's begin with some outlandish attacks on President Obama by Fox News ala Glenn Beck Sean Hannity & Rush Limbaugh. To the ultra conservatives and the Republicans and the Religious Right President Obama is the worst thing in their view that could happen to America. They characterize Obama as being a wolf in sheep's clothing a secret Muslim or they fear Obama might be a communist or the Anti-Christ or that he is out to destroy the White Power structure in America.

Sean Hannity attacks President Obama his supporters and the media for treating Obama with some respect and for not attacking him during the inauguration. Limbaugh and Hannity go on about Obama being in favor of Big Government and evil Socialism. Hannity and Limbaugh bring up Ayers ACORN and the Chicago Way ala " The Untouchables "- and so continue their smear campaign against Obama. Limbaugh refers to Obama's fringe kook base but isn't Limbaugh part of the Republicans Kook base of racist, nativist who claim that there is a conspiracy against white Evangelical Christians as it were. These are the ones who use the issues such as illegal immigration as a cover for spewing their racist hatred and fear mongering and talk about the demise of America and American values. . They fear that soon white Americans will become a minority and lose their power and status in America. Once upon a time their predecessors went about fear mongering about Irish Immigrants or Italian Immigrants or Asian Immigrants or Jewish Immigrants etc. now its the Latinos and Mexicans and Arabs that they fear.

FOX News: Limbaugh Cuts Loose On Obama with Hannity, Pt. 1

Glenn Beck highlights his own ignorance and racist view- According to Glenn Beck one is never to mention race especially if you are black while a black president is being sworn in. Beck says he has been praying for Obama to succeed or is he afraid Obam's agenda is not going to stick with the status quo. Does Beck really forget the anger of the Republicans at their rallies during the election and all the accusations that Obama was a secret communist, terrorists, or anti-American or not a "Real American " and that with Obama as President America was heading for disaster.

Glenn Beck outraged at Rev. Lowry's Benediction: 'Can You Imagine Anyone Else Saying Something Like That?!'

And Beck claims that he wishes Obama well : if so what does this video say about that. if this isn't racist fear mongering I don't know what is.

Glenn Beck presents the Obama National Anthem-Oct. 6, 2008

This next video is even more offensive for it suggests that President Obama is going to lead America into a totalitarian state. This seems odd since it was the Bush Cheney Regime which acted without considering the views of average Americans . As Cheney and Bush said when confronted with the people's disapproval of their policies they said So! They claimed to be doing what was necessary for America's security which is just what Hitler argued in 1933 after the burning of the Reichstag.

Warning I am posting this video for educational purposes to illustrate the level of hatred and fear of Obama for the Conservatives and Republicans in America & many may find it offensive-

President Obama Inauguration Ceremony, Washington D.C.-
Uses images of Hitler to compare Hitler's popularity to that of Obama's popularity

as the YouTube user says about it:

The fight has just begun, yes we can!

God bless President George W. Bush for doing what is right even in the face of disloyal liberals across this country.

I want every single person who voted for Obama to remember that vote proudly over the coming years. After all, you are one of the many who brought upon the nightmare that will hurt all of us regardless of color, religion or politics.

More videos below showing the constant nasty outrageous inflammatory attacks on Obama going back almost two years. These videos also illustrate how out of the touch these members of the Far Right are from mainstream America which is a little to the left of center. But first my take on all this and a little rant as it were.

Issue : Propaganda , Lies ,Racism, Bigotry and the Purveyors of Hate

There is another issue which it is difficult to discuss and that is what seems to be a resurgence in the United States of the most vile forms of racism sometimes merely disguising itself as justified criticisms of President Barack Obama. During the Bush administration the mainstream media and the ultraconservatives and the Far Right defended bush at every turn and claimed he was one of America's greatest presidents. They also complained about those they perceived as being " liberal" or " progressive " from Bill Moyers to Arianna Huffington to Moveon.org or Air America, People For The American Way ,The Southern Poverty Law Center and Human Rights Watch & Amnesty International. org to Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow to Amy Goodman at Democracy Now etc. as being disloyal Americans or even as traitors to criticize the president in a time of war. and that it didn't matter if that president were a Republican or a Democrat .

But this argument was abandoned and everything seems to have changed overnight once Obama was sworn in as the new president for the ultraconservatives and the Mainstream Media treat Obama with little respect as in part they are incredulous that a black man who is also considered a liberal has become president. This fact taps into their worst illogical and irrational fears about blacks and liberals. We saw this in the Republican's campaign against Barack Obama which way beyond a bit of over zealous rhetoric but rather became the spewing of hate and racism in all its forms.

Even now on the internet and elsewhere there are those who act as if it were the end of the world that a black man is now the president of the United States. These purveyors of hate compare President Barack Obama to the Anti-Christ or to Adolph Hitler as if President Obama had some nefarious plan to radically change America in various ways to institute some sort of Communist Regime or Fascist Regime or that he intends to treat White Americans as second class citizens . Much of this is as psychologists point out is a form of projection on the part of White Supremacists or radical ultraconservatives who if they were to take power they treat various groups as second class citizens ie non-white Americans and non-white immigrants or the Jews or Muslims or some other religious or ethnic group which they despise, hate and or for whatever reason irrationally fear.

So these racists and purveyors of hate look inside themselves and consider what they would do if they had total and absolute power and so see President Barack Obama as having in their view similar irrational hatreds and fears . So they picture a worse case scenario and post films of the Nazis and Adolph Hitler with some sort of voice over mimicking phrases from Obama's speeches about change etc. What they fear in their twisted messed up heads is that President Obama will decide its payback time for the hundreds of years in which blacks in America have suffered injustices at the hands of White Americans. Because in their hearts if they had suffered so they would feel the need to make those they believed to be responsible for their suffering to be made to suffer. This is why in part the racist lashes out at some group or other instead of trying to resolve their own pain and confusion and sense of victimization.

It is unfortunate that such racists and hate mongers still exist in America in fairly large numbers. What is worse is that there are those who under the guise of legitimate criticism also spew such venom sometimes overtly or most of the time with more subtlety. These are those Ultraconservatives who fill the airwaves as plain talking no spin zone types of AM Radio talk shows or are even invited on Faux News TV shows and networks where they talk in code constantly attacking minorities or Immigrants legal or illegal who stoke the flames of ignorance and bigotry because they are bigots themselves or promoting a certain agenda and they will appeal even to the worst bigots to get their support or to improve their ratings or just to sell more books. They appeal to the Lowest Common Denominator and get a kick out deriding anyone who does not buy into their bigoted or racist conspiracy theories or their simplification of complex issues into good versus evil or us against them. And who is "Them" or "They" they are the other whom these purveyors of hate have demonized and dehumanized .

We see this hatred and disdain for the Other in the babbling and convoluted and circular and unfounded arguments and twisted logic of people like Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham ,Bill O'Reilly,Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Michael Savage or Glenn Beck to Lou Dobbs and FOX News- their voices range from the bombastic to the extremely angry to the syrupy guy who reminds one of Mr. Rogers to the shrill cackling of someone who thinks they are as funny as Oscar Wilde. In the end it is still the same vicious over the top rhetoric of a bigot who 's arguments are baseless and who thinks by making a smart-ass remark or quip or by shouting and banging a table with their fist they will clinch the debate because in their mind no matter what their half-baked conspiratorial views of the world are right and no facts will ever deter their passion and certitude.

We hope in the future these voices will become more muted and that they are challenged in a reasonable manner by those with whom they interact in the Mainstream Media or when they show themselves to be intolerant witless hate-mongers that this is pointed out in no uncertain terms because they can not that easily be ignored- it is better to shine a light on their hate mongering no matter how eloquent they may seem to be - a racist is still a racist for all that and all that- And to ignore them is to do so at our peril since they will continue to spew their nonsense and will eventually find fertile ground in the the disenchanted or disenfranchised or those who see themselves as victims of unknown dark forces as it were.

So anyway let's see what these supposedly fair-minded Bush supporters were saying about Obama during the election and to the run up to the election . So lest we forget here's some video footage of these ultraconservatives real views on Barack Obama. So you tell me how much of this sounds like " fair and balanced " and intelligent journalism To me it just appears to be a mud-slinging match and fear mongering and the most hateful and divisive kind of so called political commentary. It also shows why the Republicans lost since they were unable to focus on the issues which were seen as important to average Americans who just wanted the Bush Nightmare to end .

President Obama scores series of hits/ Media Confused Without Cheney's Directives & Fox News Attacks Obama

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2009 at 1:15 PM.
Anyway Obama is off to an auspicious start and scores series of hits during first few days in office. So let's take a moment to look at the good start that Obama has made.

closing Gitmo
ending torture of detainees
Support of Geneva Conventions
Exiting Iraq
Reproductive Rights
a more open government
Protecting the environment

But let's begin with a bit from Jon Stewart on FOX NEWS already attacking President Obama and that they are hoping will fail. What Jon Stewart points out that when Bush was in power FOX NEWS claimed criticisms of Bush in a time of war was tantamount to treason. But now that Obama is president he is fair game. So the media bias continues in favor of Bush and the Republicans becuse the Media see President Obama and the democrats as the "Enemy " and so the conservatives are going into "attack mode" but haven't they been doing this since the first day Obama began running as Party leader and then as a presidential candidate.

Stewart: Limbaugh's desire for Obama to 'fail' is 'arguably treasonous'

After only a few days, Fox News does its "duty," and, of course, all the while, remaining "fair and balanced," finds reasons Americans should fear the Obama administration.

As Comedy Central's Jon Stewart shows, the attacks on Obama - some that even the Fox hosts themselves considered ridiculous but still decided to air to sound off on - began in the first twenty-four hours of his presidency.

and more insanity from FOX NEWS - The Anti-Obama Network
One question for President Obama does he really expect to be able to deal with these Ultraconservitives in a rational manner. Remember these are the Journalists and their loopy followers who trashed Obama for over two years. They act as if Obama was not legally elected as President.

Not Only Is Fox's Glenn Beck a Bigot, He's Also a Lunatic- from ThinkProgress.

So not only is Glenn Beck a bigot, but he's also a raving lunatic. On his Fox News show, Beck freaked out because President Obama didn't place his hand on a Bible while retaking the oath of office. The best part was Beck pretended he "checked" and found that no President has been sworn in without a Bible. That, of course, is FALSE. As Think Progress points out, Teddy Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, and John Quincy Adams didn't use Bibles when they were sworn into office.

But hey, why should Beck let a little thing like the facts get in the way of marginalizing Obama at all costs? Isn't that what all the redo complaints really boil down to -- the true Fox mission? I mean, Fox simply gave the Bush administration a pass for eight painfully long years of blatant lies and illicitness. Now, however, they're suddenly so concerned about strictly adhering to the law, criticizing Obama over something that was actually the fault of Chief Justice Roberts.

But some in the US Media in Senate & Congress still enthralled by Bush & co. are hostile to Obama's policies turn to fear mongering and propaganda. Are they still taking their marching orders from Cheney and Karl Rove. Are they still hoping to rein in Obama so that he will pay tribute to the Neoconservatives the Religious Right and various far-right organizations.

What they fail to accept is that the election of President Obama was a repudiation of much of the Ideology and policies of the Bush Regime. For instance the abuse and torture of detainees did not make the world safer and only hurt America's reputation. The War in Iraq was unnecessary and has led to the deaths of over 4,000 Americans. It also has cost over 600 billion dollars and counting. The American people also rejected Bush's rationalizations for stripping Americans of one right after another. The American voters also realized that all of Bush's talk about a healthy economy was a pack of lies.

People for the American Way proclaim that Obama's first few days in office is a Great Start!

In President Obama's first few days in office, he has already undone some serious damage from the previous administration with the stroke of a pen. He signed orders to close Guantanamo and the CIA's network of secret foreign prisons. And he repealed the global gag rule prohibiting U.S. dollars and contraceptive supplies from going to any international family planning program that provides abortions or counsels women about their reproductive health options. He's nominated stellar candidates to run the government, many of whom have been confirmed and started their work.

Great start!

President Obama's inauguration this week was enthusiastically celebrated by Americans of all political stripes. Even many former Bush supporters have embraced President Obama and agree that the country needs to move beyond partisanship and division. President Obama's high approval ratings are a clear indication that Americans are willing and ready to do what's needed to heal our economy, restore our good standing in the world and meet the enormous challenges we face.

President Obama: Thank you for overturning the global gag rule! Jan.23, 2009

... As one of his first official acts in office, President Obama has overturned the global gag rule...

By overturning the global gag rule, President Obama has taken a tremendous first step toward promoting women's health around the world. Overseas health care providers will now be able to offer counseling, referrals, and services for the full range of reproductive health options to women without fear that the U.S. government will strip them of their funding.

I'm sending our new president a message of thanks on behalf of these providers, the women they serve, and those of us here in the U.S. who have been protesting the global gag rule since the day President Ronald Reagan first implemented it.

" Obama Reverses Global Gag " Rule by Suzanne Malveaux CNN Jan 23, 2009

WASHINGTON - President Obama signed an executive order Friday striking down a rule prohibiting U.S. money from funding international family planning groups that promote abortion or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion services.

The order comes the day after the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in the United States.

It reverses the "Mexico City policy," initiated by President Reagan in 1984, canceled by President Clinton and reinstated by President George W. Bush in 2001.

The policy, referred to by critics as "the global gag rule," was initially announced at a population conference in Mexico City.

Reversing the previous administrations' stance on the policy was one of Clinton's first acts as president in January 1993 and the very first executive order issued by Bush on January 22, 2001, the 28th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
Critics, including Planned Parenthood, called Bush's move a "legislative ambush."

He defended his action, saying, "It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortion or actively promote abortion."

The group Population Action International praised Obama's move, saying in a statement that it will "save women's lives around the world."

On Bush's Midnight changes in regulations:

Obama Moves to Block Bush's 'Midnight' attempts to Relax Green Rules" CommonDreams.org Jan. 23, 2009 from BusinessGreen.com

New administration moves quickly to undo "midnight regulations" designed to relax environmental rules

by Danny Bradbury

WAHINGTON - In a traditional game of political whack-a-mole, the Obama White House has moved quickly to freeze all pending regulations proposed by the former president's administration, including president Bush's attempts to roll back large swathes of environmental legislation.

President Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel issued a memo on inauguration day warning federal agencies not to send proposed or final regulations to the Office of the Federal Register for publication. The Oval Office is to review each of them first.

The White House memo also gives the president's designates the chance to re-evaluate rules that have already been published in the federal register, but which agencies have not yet brought into effect.

Last-minute rules, known as midnight regulations, are common when one administration leaves office. The Bush administration was working on a swathe of regulations in the run-up to the transition, many of which carried an environmental impact.

---------
and William Rivers Pitt comments that these are "First Steps on a Long Road" Truthout.org , Jan. 23, 2009

...President Obama's first official act in office was to repair the damage done by the Bush administration's wildly devious and dishonest practices. As Dan Froomkin reported in The Washington Post on Thursday, "Obama issued three memos: one establishes bold new rules regarding transparency and open government; another instructs executive-branch officials who enforce the Freedom of Information Act to err on the side of making materials public rather than looking for reasons to legally withhold them; and the third freezes pay of White House staffers making over $100,000. He also signed two executive orders: one establishing strict ethics rules for his political appointees and another making presidential records more accessible."

President Obama has ordered the closing of America's detention center in Guantanamo Bay, and has ordered the end of the use of torture against detainees. As Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball reported in Time on Thursday, "In perhaps his most far-reaching and potentially controversial move, Obama ordered that the CIA immediately cease using any interrogation techniques that are not already authorized in the Army Field Manual. He also ordered the CIA to close, 'as expeditiously as possible,' any secret detention facilities overseas and begin immediate compliance with Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits 'humiliating and degrading' treatment of prisoners."

The import of these latest moves by President Obama was best detailed by Glenn Greenwald, who wrote, "Barack Obama will have spent his first several days in office issuing a series of executive orders which, some quibbling and important caveats aside, meet or actually exceed even the most optimistic expectations of civil libertarians - everything from ordering the closing of Guantanamo to suspending military commissions to compelling CIA interrogators to adhere to the Army Field Manual to banning CIA "black sites" and, perhaps most encouragingly (in my view): severely restricting his own power and the power of former presidents to withhold documents on the basis of secrecy, which has been the prime corrosive agent of the Bush era."

Finally, science has been rescued from the dungeon of Bush administration idiocy. The Financial Times reported on Friday that, "US regulators have approved the first use of embryonic stem cells in humans. The move raises the prospect of a groundbreaking approach to medical treatment that had been blocked since 2001 by George W. Bush as president. Just two days after the inauguration of President Barack Obama, who opposed his predecessor's ban on federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research, the Food & Drug Administration authorised Geron, a US biotech company, to begin clinical trials for patients with severe spinal cord injuries." For millions of Americans who suffer from diabetes, multiple sclerosis and other debilitating maladies, the promise of stem cell research cannot be overstated...

" Obama Moves to Start Iraq Pullout " by By Peter Baker /Thom Shanker/ International Herald Tribune Jan. 22, 2009

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama has given his national security team a new mission to end the war in Iraq, nearly six years after U.S.-led forces invaded, but he held off ordering a troop withdrawal right away to hear concerns and options from his military commanders.

[Afghan President Hamid Karzai meets with U.S. Central Command chief General David Petraeus in Kabul, January 20, 2009.(Presidential Palace/Handout/Reuters)]Afghan President Hamid Karzai meets with U.S. Central Command chief General David Petraeus in Kabul, January 20, 2009.(Presidential Palace/Handout/Reuters)
On his first full day in office, Obama summoned senior civilian and uniformed officials to the White House on Wednesday to begin fulfilling his campaign promise to pull combat forces out of Iraq in 16 months. Among those meeting with Obama was General David Petraeus, who had not seen him since the Nov. 4 election.

"I asked the military leadership to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq," Obama said in a written statement after the meeting. He added that he planned to "undertake a full review of the situation in Afghanistan in order to develop a comprehensive policy for the entire region."

Obama orders CIA to stop torturing terror suspects" By Leonard Doyle in Washington The Independent.co.uk Jan. 23, 2009

President continues reversal of Bush policies by confirming Guantanamo closure

Barack Obama has ordered the CIA to cease the torture and mistreatment of terrorist suspects and to shut down its notorious network of secret prisons around the world. As anticipated, he signed an order yesterday which means the Guantanamo Bay jail in Cuba will be closed within a year.

Mr Obama said at the State Department that in this "twilight struggle" he wanted to send, "an unmistakable signal that our actions in defence of liberty will be (as) just as our cause". The directive said it "shall be closed as soon as practicable, and no later than one year from the date of this order".

The US is still holding 245 suspects in Guantanamo, only a handful of whom are believed to be senior members of al-Qai'da. Many are ordinary Arabs who were caught up in security sweeps in Afghanistan and Pakistan and have been left stateless. But it is not known how many suspects captured by the CIA were sent off to be interrogated in secret prisons.

The outgoing CIA chief, Michael Hayden, says it is "fewer than 100". Because some of the interrogators fear they could be prosecuted for war crimes, video tapes of interrogations and other records have also disappeared. The existence of a secret CIA prisons network and the policy of "rendition" – secretly removing suspects to countries where torture is practised – has caused international outrage. Decisions must now be made on whether inmates should be transferred, released or prosecuted in the US.

and still the Mainstream Media is spewing lies propaganda and fear as if the Bush Regime were still controlling them
maybe these journalists are just a little confused or discombobulated having not received their weekly Talking Points Memo from Dick Cheney or Karl Rove. So maybe it will take time for them to once again what it means to be a journalist in a non-Bush World.

" The Newest Fear-Mongering Campaign From the Right and the Media "by Glenn Greenwald, Salon.com. Jan. 23, 2009

The latest fear-mongering campaign in the U.S. -- this one devoted to scaring Americans that they will be slaughtered if Guantanamo is closed and Terrorism suspects are brought into the U.S. for real trials -- is now in full swing. The New York Times today prints a front-page article, based entirely on an anonymous source, claiming that a detainee released from Guantanamo last year has now become "the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch" (it's always amazing how bureaucratically structured Al Qaeda is alleged to be and how well we can discern the structure: "Deputy Leader, Yemen Branch"; do they have business cards and organizational charts?).

But the real fear-mongering is focused on all of the attacks that American communities will suffer if we imprison dangerous Terrorists inside the U.S. rather than in Guantanamo. House Majority Leader John Boehner wants you to be frightened: "I think the first thing we have to remember is that we're talking about terrorists here. Do we bring them into our borders?" GOP House Minority Whip Eric Cantor warned: "Actively moving terrorists inside our borders weakens our security. Most families neither want nor need hundreds of terrorists seeking to kill Americans in their communities." The always frightened Wall St. Journal Editorial Page shrieks that any place that houses Al Qaeda Terrorists will become a "target" for attack:

The military base [at Ft. Leavenworth] is integrated into the community and, lacking Guantanamo's isolation and defense capacities, would instantly become a potential terror target. Expect similar protests from other states that are involuntarily entered in this sweepstakes.

National Review's Jim Geraghaty spent all day yesterday fantasizing about all the scary things that could happen if we have Al-Qaeda Terrorists in our communities (near nuclear facilities and airports!). Former Bush aide and chief speechwriter Marc Thiessen warned yesterday in The Washington Post that if there is a Terrorist attack on U.S. soil, Americans will blame Obama because he stopped torturing and closed Guantanamo, and Democrats will be "unelectable for a generation." Today, at National Review, Thiessen, citing yesterday's Executive Orders, declared Obama "to be the most dangerous man ever to occupy the Oval Office." And yesterday, of course, The Washington Post's Fred Hiatt echoed the standard claim that our regular federal courts were inadequate to try dangerous Terrorists.

All of this is pure fear-mongering -- the 2009 version of Condoleezza Rice's mushroom cloud and Jay Rockefeller's "we'll-lose-our-eavesdropping-capabilities" cries. Both before and after 9/11, the U.S. has repeatedly and successfully tried alleged high-level Al Qaeda operatives and other accused Islamic Terrorists in our normal federal courts -- in fact, the record is far more successful than the series of debacles that has taken place in the military commissions system at Guantanamo. Moreover, those convicted Terrorists have been housed in U.S. prisons, inside the U.S., for years without a hint of a problem. Here is but a partial list of the accused Muslim Terrorists who have been successfully tried and convicted in U.S. civilians courts and who remain imprisoned inside the U.S.:

Media Fudge Numbers on Guantánamo Detainees CommonDreams .org WASHINGTON - January 23

- In recent days many media figures and outlets -- including CNN's Campbell Brown and Kyra Phillips, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Fox News' Sean Hannity, The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Associated Press, and ABCNews.com -- have repeated or failed to challenge the claim that 61 former detainees held at Guantánamo Bay have returned to the battlefield. Hannity, the Globe, and the Los Angeles Times, in particular, falsely asserted that the Pentagon has confirmed this figure.

In fact, the Pentagon says it has confirmed that 18 Guantánamo detainees -- not 61 -- have returned to the fight. During a January 13 press conference, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell stated: "The new numbers are, we believe, 18 confirmed and 43 suspected of returning to the fight. So 61 in all former Guantanamo detainees are confirmed or suspected of returning to the fight."

As Media Matters has repeatedly noted, the Pentagon's claim to having confirmed that 18 have returned to the fight has itself been called into question. Indeed, Seton Hall University School of Law professor Mark Denbeaux has disputed the Pentagon's figures, asserting: "Once again, they've failed to identify names, numbers, dates, times, places, or acts upon which their report relies. Every time they have been required to identify the parties, the DOD [Department of Defense] has been forced to retract their false IDs and their numbers."

"It is reckless for members of the media to misrepresent what the Pentagon said and to compound the misinformation by not reporting that even the lower Pentagon number that it actually claims to have confirmed has been questioned." said Karl Frisch, a Senior Fellow at Media Matters. He added, "The media should be ashamed for using these numbers without noting they have been called into question by experts. The American people deserve an honest assessment of our Guantanamo policy -- on that front they have been failed by the media."

Israel Mission Accomplished Gaza Reduced To Rubble & UN Accuses Israel of War Crimes

UPDATE: Jan.23, 2009 10:29 AM

Israel's Occupation and the Palestinians
Will the United Nations and other International Organizations hold Israel accountable for possible War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity ?
President Obama could begin by exerting pressure on the UN and Israel to ensure that there is an independent investigation into possible War Crimes committed by the Israeli forces during the recent conflict in Gaza -
President Obama should also use his influence possibly with just a phone call to ensure Gaza is getting the humanitarian aid it needs by telling Olmert to stop the blockade and open up its borders -
But don't count on it since Israel is considered the third rail in American politics and the United States has historically supported Israel unconditionally and has obstructed any measures the UN has tried to take against Israel.

Ban Ki-Moon Lambasts Shelling of UN in Gaza Jan 20, 2009

by Jenny Booth

Ban Ki-moon today called for those responsible for bombing UN-run buildings and schools in Gaza to be held accountable following Israel's 22-day war on Hamas.

Clearly angry, the United Nations Secretary-General was speaking outside the still-smouldering main UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) compound in Gaza City that was hit during shelling by Israeli artillery last Thursday, setting fire to the building and to the food aid stored inside.

Other UN buildings were hit during the fighting, and a number of Palestinian refugees allowed by the UN to take shelter inside its schools were killed.

"It is an outrageous and totally unacceptable attack on the United Nations," said Mr Ban.

"There must be a full investigation, a full explanation to make sure it never happens again. There should be accountability through a proper judiciary system."

The Israeli offensive ended on Sunday, leaving extensive damage in its wake. Some 1,300 Palestinians were killed, and thousands more wounded. A sixth of the buildings in the overcrowded territory were reduced to rubble.
---
And it appears Israel is not cooperating with the UN and Humanitarian Relief Agencies but is only allow a trickle of aid into Gaza. Is Israel therefore continuing to punish ordinary citizens of Gaza for this conflict. Are they continuing their Medieval Siege on Gaza.

UN demands flow of goods to Gaza BBC News Jan 21, 2009

UN humanitarian chief John Holmes has urged Israel to fully open all crossings with Gaza to allow a free flow of goods.

Mr Holmes said that unless Israel allowed building materials into Gaza, no reconstruction could begin there.

The UN says rebuilding Gaza after Israel's three-week offensive against Hamas militants will cost billions of dollars.

Early on Wednesday, Israel said it had completed its troop pull-out from Gaza.

"The last soldier left the Gaza Strip this morning," an Israeli military spokesman told journalists.

Obama, take away the pain in my stomach- An Open Letter To obama Jan. 13, 2009

Palestinian doctor wonders why three of his children were killed by the Israeli forces.
Did Israeli forces the IDF target the Gaza doctor's residence to silence him ? Odd how the Israeli armed forces make so many disastrous mistakes bombing schools, clinics , hospitals, the UN compound and places clearly marked as shelters for refugees or bomb a house after herding civilians into it . Yet the Israelis we are told have has one of the best trained and disciplined and well equipped armies in the world but still they make all of these mistakes which they then shrug off as unimportant in the scheme of things. Israel could after admitting to errors made in the recent Gaza conflict and allow for an independent investigation by an International committee . But don't count on it . The Israelis like the Americans don't trust any International Humanitarian or human Rights organizations and they believe the United Nations is hostile to Israel.

Gaza doctor's tragedy grips Israeli TV McClatchy Newspapers Checkpoint Jerusalem Blog Jan. 19, 2009

It is likely to be remembered as one of the most emotionally-charged moments of the Gaza conflict: An anguished Gaza doctor appeals for help on a live Israeli TV news show after his house was hit by Israeli fire, killing three of his daughters and one niece.

The Israeli reporters scrambled to help and got the doctor's family flown to Israel for emergency treatment.

As the doctor made an impassioned plea for answers the next day, an Israeli mother angrily lashed out and, knowing little about his story, accused the doctor of hiding weapons in his home.

Doctor appeals for help on live Israeli TV:

If the doctors house was fired upon according to Israeli citizens he therefore must be guilty of being a terrorist. It does not even ocurr to them that it might have been a mistake made by the IDF because Israeli forces are always right in what they do and never make mistakes. But the Israelis have admitted to making mistakes as in the bombing of the UN compound though they kept firing on the UN compound while UN personnel were talking to the Israelis on the phone telling them to stop bombing . Eventually the Israelis stopped bombing but it appeared to be a matter of the Israelis putting a stop to the bombing after they had completed their mission. Their mission was to attack the UN compound to send a stern and forceful message to the United Nations and other International Humanitarian and Human Rights groups and the media that they are not welcome in Gaza and Israel has no obligation to avoid blowing up the buildings they are in or killing their personnel.

Livni makes light of Gaza civilian casualty
PRESS TV.com /Jan 19, 2009

Israel's foreign minister has sought to justify the high number of casualties in Gaza by calling it a normal "product of circumstance".

"We seek out the terrorists, and it can happen that civilians are sometimes hurt in the fight against terror," said Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Israeli Radio.

Livni is running for prime minister in February elections.

"We had to carry out this operation. I am at peace with the fact that we did it," she said referring to a three-week long offensive against the Gaza Strip which killed at least 1,300 Palestinians, including more than 400 children.

Livni, who had formerly termed civilian deaths as a rather normal outcome of war, vowed to resume the deadly raids should Israel come under rocket attacks by Hamas resistance fighters.

"[Hamas] knows today what Israel does when it's harmed, the world knows what it does when it's harmed and even accepts this. Therefore, I think they won't do this again soon," said the Kadima leader.

Israeli spokesperson talks about perpetual war against Gaza and Hamas

Not all Israelis approve of the recent attack on Gaza nor do they approve of the Israeli policies in general in respect to the Palestinians and the occupied territories . At the moment the most extreme group of ultraconservatives have taken control of the Israeli government. The current Israeli government is more interested in propaganda and spin and treats the conflict in Gaza as a Public Relations matter. To them the facts on the ground are irrelevant when it comes to showing the Israeli people that the current government and its military is tough on Hamas especially with an election to be held soon. Like the former Bush Regime the Regime in Israel orchestrates what information is allowed to be reported by its media. Those Israeli's who protest can easily find themselves arrested and kept for extended periods without being charge and detainees in Israel are often abused and tortured. They have learned a great deal it would appear from Bush and Cheney .

A Pointless War Has Led to a Moral Defeat for Israel

Editorial/ "The Guardian" January 18, 2009

That fact alone explains why the operation represents a defeat for Israel, as was always likely to be the outcome. The notion that the country's security problems can be resolved by the unilateral use of extreme force is a persistent delusion among Israeli politicians. In this case, the problem was perceived to be Hamas rocket fire into southern Israel; the solution was judged to be a war against Hamas. That analysis did not allow for the vital, humane recognition that, in densely populated Gaza, an all-out war against Hamas is, by necessity, an attack on the civilian population.

Even on its own terms, the campaign has failed. Israeli authorities will insist that they have limited the ability of Hamas to launch rocket attacks. But the ostensible war aim was destroying that capability completely.

Posturing and Laughter as Victims Rot" by Robert Fisk The Independent, Jan. 21, 2009

Mahmoud Abbas stepped further into humiliation by saying the only option for Arabs is to make peace with Israel

...The front page of the Beirut daily As-Safir said it all yesterday. Across the top was a terrible photograph of the bloated body of a Palestinian man newly discovered in the ruins of his home while two male members of his family shrieked and roared their grief. Below, at half the size, was a photograph from Israel of Western leaders joking with Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister. Olmert was roaring with laughter. Silvio Berlusconi, arms on the back of Olmert's shoulders, was also joshing and roaring – with laughter, not grief – and on Olmert's right was Nicolas Sarkozy of France wearing his stupidest of smiles. Only Chancellor Merkel appeared to understand the moral collapse. No smiles from Germany.

Europe laughs while Palestinians mourn their dead. No wonder that in the streets of Beirut, shops were doing a flourishing trade in Palestinian scarves and flags. Even some of Palestine's most serious enemies in Lebanon wore the Palestinian keffiyeh in solidarity with the people of Gaza. Over and over again, Al-Jazeera television strapped headlines on to their news reports of Palestinians carrying the decomposing corpses of their dead: "More than 1,300 dead in Gaza, 400 of them women and children – Israeli dead in the war 13, three of them civilians." That, too, said it all.Posturing and Laughter as Victims Rot

--
And so Israel did accomplish much of what it wanted to in Gaza by reducing most of the area into rubble.

"Israel’s Doctrine of Destruction: Bombs to ‘send Gaza back decades" By Jonathan Cook in Nazareth -"Information Clearinghouse" Jan. 21, 2009

- In the last days before Israel imposed a unilateral ceasefire in Gaza to avoid embarrassing the incoming Obama administration, it upped its assault, driving troops deeper into Gaza City, intensifying its artillery bombardment and creating thousands more displaced people.

Israel’s military strategy in Gaza, even in what its officials were calling the “final act”, followed a blueprint laid down during the Lebanon war more than two years ago.

Then, Israel destroyed much of Lebanon’s infrastructure in a month of intensive air strikes. Even in the war’s last few hours, as a ceasefire was being finalised, Israel fired more than a million cluster bombs over south Lebanon, apparently in the hope that the area could be made as uninhabitable as possible.

Similarly, Israel’s destruction of Gaza continued with unrelenting vigour to the very last moment, even though according to reports in the Israeli media the air force exhausted what it called its “bank of Hamas targets” in the first few days of fighting.

The military sidestepped the problem by widening its definition of Hamas-affiliated buildings. Or as one senior official explained: “There are many aspects of Hamas, and we are trying to hit the whole spectrum because everything is connected and everything supports terrorism against Israel.”

That included mosques, universities, most government buildings, the courts, 25 schools, 20 ambulances and several hospitals, as well as bridges, roads, 10 electricity generating stations, sewage lines, and 1,500 factories, workshops and shops.

And it appears the US played a big part in making the situation in Gaza even worse by supporting an attempted Coup in Gaza.

The Gaza Bombshell Vanity Fair April 2008

After failing to anticipate Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, the author reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever

Obama Is In and Bush is out- Time For War Crime Trials and a Review of Their LIes and Propaganda & Media Complicity

UPDATE: Jan. 22, 2009 at 10:27AM & 10:49 AM

935 Lies the Bush/Cheney Cabal or Cult need to answer for- see below-

US WAR CRIMINALS-

Great Moments of the Bush Regime on Youtube etc. Time to say goodbye to the Bush/Cheney Cabal . Time for President Obama to overhaul much of the government and get it back on track. But lest we forget the crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush Regime still need to be part of the discourse and not merely swept under the rug or tossed down the Memory Hole. These were not merely the result of honest mistakes or poor decisions about policies.

Taking America to War under false pretenses in itself is a serious crime which abused the trust of the American people. In the International sphere the invasion of Iraq was a War of Aggression which is a crime which is spelled out in the Geneva Conventions and other International Agreements. Bush and his gang of thugs must be made in some fashion to answer for these crimes even it were merely to mean cutting off their pensions and other benefits. But if they go before an International Court for their crimes then we should expect long prison sentences where they can contemplate what they did wrong though it is doubtful that they would ever truly feel any guilt about what they did. Even now Bush and Cheney are unrepentant and even joke about it all the deaths of 4,000 Americans is not something they bother to think about. Besides as they all say they had some Good Times at The White House .

It also needs to be reiterated that in their invasion of Iraq the American forces under the guidance of President Bush committed various other war crimes from the bombing of infrastructure to not taking full responsibility for keeping public order after they invaded. The American forces stood by and allowed the looting of public buildings except for " the Oil Ministry ". American forces then abused and tortured people who were captured or arrested in Iraq. These detainees were denied their basic rights under the Geneva Conventions. The numbers of Iraqis detained in this way over the period of the occupation is well over 20,000. Meanwhile US forces were issued orders ( or commanding officers turned a blind eye) in which they showed little concern for Iraqi Citizens who were non-combatants. It was not just a matter of " A Few Bad Apples " at Abu Ghraib " but part of a policy which went beyond Abu Ghraib to other prisons in Iraq and abuses occurred on a routine basis we are told all over Iraq where soldiers were told again and again that all Iraqis were their enemy or potential enemy. These feelings were expressed from the top brass on down in one form or another to such an extent that it created a poisonous atmosphere in which average soldiers came to believe that they should shoot first and ask questions later. Large parts of Iraq we are told became "Free-Fire Zones and whole cities could be reduced to rubble and ashes in which the commanders saw little difference between the insurgents and the ordinary Iraqi citizen.( Fallujah Najaf etc. )

Fallujah after American Attack

see:
Global Policy .org Siege Tactics and Attacks on Population Centers

The US-led Multinational Force in Iraq has conducted a number of attacks on population centers, resulting in many civilian casualties and massive destruction of the urban physical infrastructure. In addition to the two major offensives on Fallujah in 2004, there have also been assaults on other cities and towns including al-Qaim, Tal Afar, Samarra, Najaf and Ramadi, considered by occupation forces as "insurgent strongholds." Attacking forces typically seal off the entire urban area, using siege tactics that are explicitly prohibited under the Geneva Conventions (1949). Such tactics include cutting off water, food and electricity, forcing residents to flee. Those who remain are exposed to heavy air and ground bombardment and “free fire zone” risks. Seizure of medical facilities and interference with provision of medical assistance have also been common in these assaults.

Further the US forces and the private contractors did little to give aid and comfort to those Iraqi citizens who were suffering due to the occupation. For some unknown reason the US forces did not feel it was their duty to give medical aid to wounded or sick Iraqi citizens which under the Geneva Conventions is one of the primary duties of an invading and occupying force. As the saying goes If you break it then you own it or at least need to take care of the damages which are your responsibility. After starting a war that has killed some one million Iraqis the Americans under the Bush Regime supported by the Neoconservatives and ultraconservatives have tried to lay the blame for the mess in Iraq on the Iraqi people who are in fact the real victims. The country in general is worse of than it was under the rule of Saddam.

Anyway lets begin with one of my favorite songs to come out of this conflict. Hopefully America will get out of Iraq as soon as possible and turn over its MEGA- Embassy to the Iraqi government . If they do not then it will mean that America intends to control the nation of Iraq for decades to come as the British did with their Mega-Complexes and fortifications in India from the 18th century to 1949 when they were finally forced to leave.

" Iraq :The War Card The 935 Lies/ False Pretenses" Center For Public Integrity

Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

By Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith
January 23, 2008

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

On at least 532 separate occasions (in speeches, briefings, interviews, testimony, and the like), Bush and these three key officials, along with Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan, stated unequivocally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (or was trying to produce or obtain them), links to Al Qaeda, or both. This concerted effort was the underpinning of the Bush administration's case for war.

It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to Al Qaeda. This was the conclusion of numerous bipartisan government investigations, including those by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (2004 and 2006), the 9/11 Commission, and the multinational Iraq Survey Group, whose "Duelfer Report" established that Saddam Hussein had terminated Iraq's nuclear program in 1991 and made little effort to restart it.

In short, the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003. Not surprisingly, the officials with the most opportunities to make speeches, grant media interviews, and otherwise frame the public debate also made the most false statements, according to this first-ever analysis of the entire body of prewar rhetoric.
