#ows Municipalities in U.S. Thwarting Protesters Right to Peaceful Assembly & #ows Occupy The Capitol And Obama Makes Another Speech

Update : #OWS Occupy Movement  still alive and growing.

President Obama made another speech while millions lose their jobs, their homes and now the GOP and conservative Dems want to reduce Unemployment insurance and  lower taxes for the wealthy  while both sides along with the Mainstream Media push for another war against Iran , Syria vote for another war to supposedly end terrorism  - These people love wars because it is a way to increase profits selling more weapons to the US government and governments around the globe while keeping the public distracted while the Modern Day Robber Barons suck money out of the government and out of the pockets of the average citizen while bribing legislators to do the bidding of the big corporations and the super wealthy..

U.S.President Obama Supports Brutal Oppression in Egypt
Though Obama and others in his administration claim to be in favor of political reform in Egypt their actions in defending the military junta  government of Egypt appear to suggest otherwise.
The Obama Regime was reluctant from the beginning of the Egyptian public uprising to side with the protesters . And once the media was giving little coverage to Egytian protests the Obama Regime went back to supporting the authoritarian brutal military junta which took over after the ousting of Mubarak .

Egyptian police use U.S. made extra-Strength Tear Gas on People protesting in Egypt at Tahrir Square.
The U.S. Gas has caused numerous cases of extremely serious physical damage and including convulsions and some protesters have died from asphyxiation.

Medical personnel and eye witnesses at Tahrir Square report that the tear gas the military is using currently is stronger and more deadly than that used on protesters in February of this year. This raises concerns over the tear gas being used against #ows protesers in the U.S.

Update #OWS
Great piece below by PressTVGlobal News coverage of Occupy Movement
Unfortunately the Mainstream Media in Canada and the US refuse to cover the Occupy Movement fairly . MSM appears committed to pandering to Wall Street and the Elite while even so called self-proclaimed liberals are also themselves to entrenched in the existing unjust status-quo of Monopolistic unfettered Capitalism.

Most politicians in the USA themselves directly or indirectly whether they are Republican or Democrat are on the payroll of the super rich and corporations .
The Militarization of police forces across the U.S.
The policing of the Occupy Movement is quite similar to the repression of pro-reform movements in Egypt, bahrain, Saudi Arabia , Iran , Syria, Yemen and so forth.

Whether you agree or like the Occupy movement, it grew suddenly and has been sustained longer than was first imagined. Now that the Occupy movement is shutting down for the winter, what will it be remembered for? What remains confusing (and even frustrating) for some people is that nobody knows what occupiers really want. Even the occupiers themselves seem to have different reasons for occupying, making people think that they're just being immature. But is it really a case of immaturity, or the prototype of a new type of movement--a 21st-century movement?

Taking Back the Capitol: Why I'm Going to Washington by Rev. C.J. Hawking at Gapers Block via Commondreams.org, December 5,2011
I am one of 300 Chicagoans going to Washington for a three-day convergence of thousands of people from across the country called "Take Back the Capitol." We will bring the power of the people to bear on Capitol Hill to say that the time has come for Congress to start representing the 99 percent of Americans -- We the People -- not just the richest 1 percent in the country.

The U.S. House of Representatives, after all, is supposed to be The People's House. But millions of people are out of work, wages are in steep decline, and income inequality is at its worst since the 1920s. And what is Congress doing in the face of this suffering? Failing to pass a jobs bill that would put people back to work. Meanwhile, Wall Street and K Street exert more influence over our elected representatives than ever.

The time to eliminate corporate dominance over our lives has arrived. Our representatives on Capitol Hill need to be weaned from the seduction of big money from corporate lobbyists and big-time campaign donors. They need to listen to people like Shirley Howard and Jose Tafoya, two Chicagoans also going to Washington next week.

Shirley Howard is 60 and unemployed. She worked her whole life - as a machine operator, in retail, as a teacher's aide -- but got laid off four months ago. She's been looking for work since, but nothing has come through. With no income and no medical insurance, she can't afford her blood pressure medication. And she doesn't know how she's going to make rent next month.

Jose Tafoya owned a small construction company that employed 12 workers. But when the construction industry crashed amid the 2008 economic meltdown, so did his business. Since then, the 52-year-old has sold ice cream and done a few painting jobs, but can't find stable employment. His wife and son work but it isn't enough. The Tafoyas saw their household income drop from $60,000 to $25,000 a year. Now they're losing their house.

There is something terribly wrong with this picture and Congress urgently needs to hear about it. Shirley and Jose worked hard for decades. They did everything they were supposed to do. But like millions of others in this country, they now face bleak prospects that no one should have to face -- going without the medication you need, losing your home.

They didn't drive the economy off a cliff -- big investment banks did. But people like Shirley and Jose are the ones paying the price for the reckless games Wall Street played with the financial system. Big banks and corporations are enjoying record profits, while people like Shirley and Jose -- and millions like them across the country -- struggle just to survive.

Three years after Wall Street wrecked the economy, one in five Americans are still unable to find full-time work and the gap between the 1 percent and the 99 percent continues to widen. But instead of passing a desperately-needed jobs bill, Congress has unemployment insurance on the chopping block while growing ever more subservient to corporate lobbyists.

From the moment God told Moses to lead the people out of slavery and into the land of liberation, God instructed us that it is immoral to give luxuries to the few, while taking away necessities from the many, and forever linked economic justice with faith.
As a native Chicagoan, I'm proud that, of the thousands of people voyaging to Washington next week, more will be coming from Chicago than from any other city. That's no accident -- momentum in this city has been growing for months.

More than 7,000 people took to the streets on October 10 to protest the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Futures Industry Association during their conventions here, shutting down Michigan Avenue. 2,000 people rallied at Thompson Center Plaza on November 17 before marching to the LaSalle Street Bridge and occupying it for over an hour to oppose cuts to essential services and demand job-creating policies.

As someone who serves on Occupy Chicago's spiritual affairs committee, I'm also excited that several members of the Occupy movement will be going to DC. The Occupy phenomenon has inspired a healthy and long-overdue conversation about the inhumane disparities in wealth in our society.

It is with this wind at our backs that we embark for Washington. May our voices amplify the 99 percent in the halls of The People's House.

Poor Kids Should Clean Bathrooms - Newt Gingrich & Obama Supports Egypt's Military Junta Which Is As Bad As Mubarak's Regime

Egypt after Mubarak has not improved
(reminder U.S. has shipped more Made in America New Industrial Strength Tear Gas/ Mace /Pepper-Spray ( Egyptians say the gas used most recently on protesters is much stronger than what was used just a few months ago- so was the same new improved spray used on the students at UCDavis etc.?)

Egypt: Military will not tolerate 'troublemakers'

see more on situation in Egypt after this item on Child Labor favored by Newt Gingrich and Neo-Liberals(quasi-Fascists)

Children as cheap labor in the Coal Mines- Newt Gingrigrich says children were happier then and more productive???

Children working in the Textile Industry

First something bizarre .

It appears Newt Gingrich being the brilliant man that he is (?)has found a solution to Child Poverty by send the children to work just like in the good old days when children worked in Coal Mine age 12 or less in textiles factory possibly even chained to their workstations.
Gingrich and the GOP becoming more extreme by the day or candidate.

Then Gingrich spews out a list of stereotypes about the poor which he of course believe
The poor are lazy ,slow stupid, have no self-respect and surround by other lazy good for nothings ie what Hitler called The Work Shy.

The reform in Child labor laws in the 19th to 20th centuries has usually been though of by most people in the West as a good thing . Children are supposed be permitted to be children not laborers for the wealthy . Gingrich now wants to create a revisionist history in which children liked being in the labor force til the evil liberals ruined it for these hardworking children.
It will be fun times in America if he becomes president maybe for the wars he's planning he could recruit a million poor kids as combat soldiers like the ones Iran had when it was fighting for its survival against Iraq and Saddam.

The War On Child Labor Laws: Maine Republicans

Want Longer Hours, Lower Pay For Kids
by Ian Millhiser, Think

Progress.org, March 31, 2011

Maine State Rep. David Burns is the latest of many Republican

lawmakers concerned that employers aren’t allowed to do enough to

exploit child workers:
LD 1346 suggests several significant changes to Maine’s child labor

law, most notably a 180-day period during which workers under age

20 would earn $5.25 an hour.
The state’s current minimum wage is $7.50 an hour.
Rep. David Burns, R-Whiting, is sponsoring the bill, which also

would eliminate the maximum number of hours a minor over 16 can

work during school days.
Burns’ bill is particularly insidious, because it directly

encourages employers to hire children or teenagers instead of adult

workers. Because workers under 20 could be paid less than adults

under this GOP proposal, minimum wage workers throughout Maine

would likely receive a pink slip as their twentieth birthday

present so that their boss could replace them with someone younger

and cheaper.

CHILD LABOR IN AMERICA 1908-1912
by Lisa Wade, Societypages.orgDec 3, 2009,

These days the talk is about adult-olescence, or the seeming

extention of adolescence well into ones twenties. But the idea

that children should have a childhood at all is actually pretty

recent. Before industrialization, when families tended to work

their own land, children got to work as soon as they were able.

Being apprentices to their parents was the difference between life

and death.

Industrialization brought a whole new kind of work: wage work that

occurred outside the home. At that time, it made perfect sense

that kids would work, as they’d be working on the farm all along.

Only later did we decide that working outside the home was

different than working at it and that, perhaps, children working

outside of the home needed protection. The first federal law

regulating child labor was passed in 1938.

Well it appears that Neo-Liberals in Canada with an eye on those lazy poor kids as a potential cheap labor force decided even before Newt Gingrich to put those spoiled brats to work so check it out -
So much for Canada being a civilized progressive nation -we can oppress just like the Americans can.

and so British Columbia in Canada has the most backward laws concerning child labor which are more regressive than that of India.

British Columbia's child labour laws now trail those of India Hiring children as young as 12 remains legal in one of Canada's richest provinces

Victoria (13 Aug. 2006) - British Columbia's child labour laws are so bad they now lag behind those of India, which has just banned the hiring of children under 14 as domestic servants or as employees at hotels, tea shops, restaurants and resorts.

Official government figures put the number of child labourers in India at 11 million. The actual figure is probably closer to 60 million, according to India's Save the Childhood Movement.

Yet the new standard, adopted by one of the world's poorest and most populous countries, is better than the child labour laws now on the books in B.C., Canada's wealthy West Coast province.

The B.C. government, headed by Liberal Premier Gordon Campbell, brought international shame to Canada by passing one of the most regressive pieces of "labour" legislation in modern memory.

Bill 37 was approved on Oct. 8, 2003. It permits the hiring of children under the age of 12 to 15 with the written consent of a child's parent or guardian. In fact, it even allows the hiring of children under the age of 12 with the consent of the province's "director of employment standards" - a government official whose duties are set out in the B.C. Employment Standards Act.

Shameful minimum wage

Besides legalizing child labour, Bill 37 also lowered the province's minimum wage to $6 an hour ($5.35 US) - the lowest in Canada - by establishing a two-tiered "minimum" rate.

The $6 "first job/entry level" wage applies to new employees in the work force. They are exempted from qualifying for the second-tier $8 minimum wage until they have worked at least 500 hours with more than one employer.

The B.C. law has been condemned by organizations across Canada and beyond, including the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) and its largest B.C. component, the British Columbia Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU). NUPGE

Clinton to world Egypt stable World to Clinton Mubarak is doomed

President Obama and Hillary Clinton in February were surprised by the Uprsing in Egypt. At first Clinton issued statements supporting Mubarak and claiming Egypt was stable and the protesters were just a few disgruntled people .Next thing you know the Obama administration was telling Mubarak to make concessions or leave. He left and Hope was dashed when the military took over and began to return to the same oppressive policies as Mubarak arresting disidents, protesters, torturing prisones (sounds like America) indefinite detention denying prisoners their basic rights , denying citizens the right to peaceful assembly and the right to present their grievances to those running the goverment-sounds like police in America & #OWS.

A Million Egyptian citizens hold massive protests in Tahrir Square as they did in February this year. That time they got rid of Mubarak now they want the head of the Military Junta to step down.

Egypt protesters reject military concessions

Military Junta Supported By U.S. still torturing prisoners ah well so what the U.S. also tortures prisoners while the U.S. media argue about what is and what is not "Torture" to the Neoliberals and Neocons its just a matter of semantics and PR so what's needed is a new way to sell torture as a good thing to the people in the West.So they tell me to get with the program bombing villages obliterating cities murdering children is good or bad depending on how you look at it.

Thousands of Egyptians at Funeral of Police Torture Victim

Neocons and Neoliberals hard at work convincing or rather deceiving people about their favoring democracy, freedom, human rights and the sovereignty of nations . What the U.S. and the Western powers want is cheap labor , cheap and easily accessible oil and other natural products including gold and diamonds the West won't rest til we have it all. As the saying goes "it's all good" meaning your suffering is good for me as long as I and others in the West do not suffer or so they hope.
So Obama's real Hope is the extending of the American Empire around the globe and the crushing of any and all resistance???

Liberal Apologists and Propagandists Defend President Obama Unconditionally While Obama Sells Out To The GOP, Big Business And Wall Street

A couple of days ago I was discussing Joshua Holland's response to Naomi Wolf's article in which she argued there was a conspiracy by the federal agencies to close down the Occupy Movement's sites in a number of cities. Now especially after reading the article by Katrina Vanden HeuvelI criticizing those who support Obama unconditionally and on all fronts as it were I began to wonder if this explains why Joshua Holland was so critical of Wolf's article that this may have had something to do with what he perceived as being an attack on the Obama Regime. There are those who support Obama who play the role of apologists for the Obama administration who believe it is a matter of disloyalty to criticize any policies of the Obama regime.
For more on Wolf Versus Holland see: Occupy Crackdowns: Naomi Wolf's Response to My Critique Largely Evades the Issue at Hand Wolf wants to have a wide-ranging discussion of everything but her many logical leaps and factual errors. by Joshua Holland via Alternet.org,Dec. 2, 2011

and from Naomi Wolf : The crackdown on Occupy controversy: a rebuttal Critics have accused me of concocting a fact-free 'conspiracy theory' about the policing of Occupy. I stand by my contentions by Naomi Wolf, Guardian.com, Dec. 2, 2011

President Obama during the 2008 election presented himself as someone who was going to challenge the status quo and that he was going to fundamentally change the way things are done in Washington. As we now see he has failed in carrying out this pledge and promise .His message of Hope and Change now sounds as empty and disingenuous as the slogans of most electoral campaigns.

We have a full laundry list of economic, political, social and legal issues of which Obama has failed to deliver any transformational change.

For instance as the Occupy Movement has shown Obama Instead of shaking up the status quo in Washington and Wall Street he seemed too easily to fall in line with agenda and wishes of Wall Street and the Big Corporations and the 1% by bailing out banks and big corporations while doing little to help average Americans who are finding that their wages are frozen or even rolled back or they find their jobs being eliminated while their mortgages are defaulted on so they become jobless or are underemployed or take jobs that pay minimum wage while the corporations ship jobs out of the country. These corporations which demanded government bailouts meanwhile are now making record profits and their CEOs get record high salaries and bonuses. Meanwhile these corporations and their CEOs do all they can to pay less taxes than the average American citizen.
No one is asking that these fat cats give up all their wealth but rather to just contribute their fair share. Historically from early on during the colonial period to the revolution era and beyond America has been ruled by the wealthy elites while disingenuously proclaiming their allegiance to democracy and egalitarian principles and the defense of the Rights of all citizens and not just the rich and powerful.

I would of course add that on foreign affairs President Obama's policies and actions are a disastrous continuation of the former Bush Regime's policies. Instead of ending the Bush policies on the Global War on Terror if anything Obama has rationalized the widening of the war into Pakistan and into the Pashtun Tribal area which straddles Afghanistan and Pakistan. He also for instance pushed NATO into military intervention into Libya while continuing to back various brutal authoritarian regimes in Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia while intervening in Sudan, Yemen ,Somalia while threatening to bomb and or invade Iran and Syria.

Recently the Obama administration has been revving up the propaganda war against Iran to prepare American's for another bloody war in which most of the victims will be average innocent civilians in Iran. What in some ways is most disturbing about this misinformation campaign against Iran is that it is a carbon copy of the Bush Regime's campaign to get the support of a large number of Americans for the invasion and eight year long occupation of Iraq.

As we saw previously in the speech of Wesley Clark President Obama is accused and and I think rightly so of continuing with the former George Bush /Cheney Regime's Neoconservative policies to defend Israel at all costs and to destabilize the Middle East to soften the region up for American dominance and hegemony.

Progressives Don’t Hate Ourselves by Katrina vanden Heuvel Wshington Post via CommonDreams.org, November 30, 2011

Writing in New York magazine, Jonathan Chait joins the chorus of Obama advocates decrying “self-loathing liberals” who criticize the president. Chait writes better than most, but he hews to the common theme that criticism of Obama isn’t justified by reality but instead reflects either political naivete or psychological imbalance. The argument gets it wrong, distorting the politics of the left and the realities of the country.

...Obama became president in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression. He had a majority mandate for change, large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress, the most progressive speaker, Nancy Pelosi, in the history of the country. Conservatism was in disarray, discredited by its evident failures at home and abroad. Obama put forward reforms in areas that the country must address, offering what can generously be considered pre-compromised proposals.

The biggest liberal groups in the country lined up to help pass his agenda. They stayed loyal even as his aides cut deals they found deplorable (sustaining the ban on Medicare negotiating bulk discounts on prescription drugs; abandoning the public option; buying off big oil, King Coal and virtually every energy lobby; opposing restructuring of the big banks). He faced unified Republican obstruction, not liberal opposition. Powerful corporate lobbies were able to purchase sufficient conservative Democrats – Blue Dogs, New Dems – to dilute, delay and sometimes defeat reform. Progressives in Congress criticized the limitations, but produced votes when it was time to get something passed.

Accomplishment can’t be measured by the passage of legislation but by whether it meets the challenge of the time. And here, it is inescapable that the combination of Republican obstruction and entrenched corporate lobbies blocked the reforms that we need. Some 26 million people remain in need of full-time work, and one-third of the country is in — or verges on — poverty. Some 50 million are uninsured, and millions more live one illness from bankruptcy. Big banks are more concentrated than ever, while nothing has been done for the one in four homes with mortgages that remain under water. College grows more unaffordable. The biggest reform in education is the funding carnage that is wiping out pre-school and after school programs, stuffing kids into classes of 35 or 45 students and laying off tens of thousands of skilled teachers.

If anything, Obama was hurt because progressives were too loyal rather than that they were too critical. Certainly that was the conclusion drawn by everyone from the AFL-CIO to Moveon.org to the activists of Occupy Wall Street. In a famous scene, the president told the 13 biggest bankers that he stood “between them and the pitchforks.” But there wasn’t sufficient evidence of an independent movement on the left – with or without pitchforks – to alarm the banksters. They scorned the president, took their bailouts, and continued to pay themselves obscene bonuses while returning to speculation as usual.

In the article above by Katrina Vanden heuvel she is critical of an article by Jonathan Chait a typical apologist for President Obama's Administration in which he argued that the criticisms by progressives and liberals of Obama are unjustified and that he believes that liberals and progressives are never happy with a democratic president. In his view They expect too much of President Obama and ignore his major achievements. But Katrina Van heuvel points out the problem is that Jonathan Chait exaggerates Obama's achievements which in fact she believes are slight.

Another issue raised is that Democrats and liberals as opposed to Republicans and conservatives are somehow unique in their willingness to critique a Democratic President . In fact Republicans have been just as outspoken about Republican presidents and their policies foreign and domestic.

After all Obama's domestic policies on Health Care for example are far from being as comprehensive as they ought to have been. Obama has over and over again given in to the Republicans and the lobbyists for Big Business and the Wall Street bullies Including Big Pharma and the Health Insurance Industry even when he had an overwhelming majority and a mandate by the voters to shake up the status quo in Washinton.

Obama has done nothing to shake up the terrible prison system and justice system in America.
Visible minorities are still disproportionately stopped and searched , charged with various crimes and then are disproportionately incarcerated and for longer sentences than are their white counterparts.
On corporate run prisons for profit see:
The Shocking Ways the Corporate Prison Industry Games the System The private prison system has rebounded, growing dramatically, and making big bucks with huge help from the Feds, as large numbers of immigrants are incarcerated. by Rania Khalek via Alternet.org

One of the contributing factors in the explosion in the prison population is the draconian illicit drug laws which are disproportionately enforced on the lower economic and social class including visible minorities that is blacks and Hispanics.

For instance we don't hear much about offices on Wall Street raided for suspicion of cocaine on the premises. Nor do we hear about police doing a sweep through some upper class neighborhood to search for drugs in people's homes. Of course not even though statistically and demographically large numbers of middle class and upper class people also take drugs on a fairly regular basis. Of course the well off are not likely to use certain drugs such as rock-cocaine but rather use the more expensive and purer form of Cocaine.

So why does the criminal justice system in America treat the various classes of citizens and those of particular minorities or those in particular communities differently and unfairly. Justice is supposed to be blind but it ain't.

The police and Justice system like the government in general serves the rich and powerful the 1% and their quislings in the upper Middle Class.
And in America it should be noted the prison system has become just another Big Business concern -the more prisoners the higher the profits.

Obama like previous presidents in order to appease the GOP and conservative Democrats is just as committed to the costly ineffective and disastrous War on Drugs.

Obama could have if he truly believed in a "Just Society" on coming into office in January 2009 called for a more rational policy in dealing with illicit drugs.
For instance called for at least a moratorium on arresting citizens for simple possession of Marijuana and other so called soft drugs.

He could have called for more government funded programs to help those addicted to various drugs rather than simply tossing them into prisons .
Obama had it in his power to set up subcommittees or independent study groups to investigate illicit drug use in America with instructions to come up with reasonable proposals such as decriminalization or in some cases legalization and distribution even Cranky old William F. Buckley and other conservatives have been extremely critical of the costly and senseless war on drugs.

Obama is now going after not just those who sell and who use marijuana as a recreational drug but appears to be launching a war on the use of medical Marijuana. So his policies are even more conservative than George W. Bush or Bill Clinton.

According to precendeces in the law any law which is unenforceable that is the law has no effect on people's behavior and in fact unnecessarily crimializes a large portion of society.
A law is also to be questioned when it targets unfairly particular groups in society as opposed to the general population even when those breaking the law come more or less from all economic levels of society and that those breaking the law represent a cross section of the population by race, creed , religion etc.

This was why the experiment with Prohibion was ended and shown to have been a complete failure and a very costly one in terms of law enforcement and unnecessary upheal in the lives of people across the board.

What results is that average law abiding citizens become criminals for their personal behavior which for the most part if the unjust law didn't exist would not have a negative effect on the society in general.

The drug laws in the U.S. have even more negative effect and stigmatizing of the drug users who can be tossed into jail for prolonged periods unjustifiably because of the three strike rule by which on a minor offence if found guilty for a third time one can be incarcerated as if one were a dangerous criminal.

Ironically because of the laws against the use of these drugs have a negative effect on those who have become psychologically or physically addicted who might otherwise seek help to cut down or eliminate the use of certain drugs.

The laws also have a negative effect on educating citizens especially the young on the reality of the dangers or pit falls for some if they use a particular drug. When educators or the media or government agencies present a message on drugs if the message is shown to be filled with misinformation unwarranted claims poor research and studies when the intended audience knows that the facts presented are exaggerated or just plain wrong and so loses trust of those in positions of authority who appear to just make shit up.

Not everyone who uses alcohol becomes an alcoholic or problem drinker even though alcohol is addictive . Because some people have issues with alcohol addiction or just no tolerance for alcohol that is drinking alcohol for some is like drinking poison we do not then jump to the conclusion that therefore alcohol should become illegal.

Obama has been somewhat dismissive of the very idea of setting up an independent body to study the feasibility of ending the War on Drugs and moving towards decriminalization and legalization.

This would lead to billions of scarce dollars being spent each year while creating an industry of growing, processing and selling such drugs legally while creating a new tax revenue for the governments . For instance if the tabacco growers who slowly going out of business and processers were smart they would be the ones to handle most of the growing of Marijuana and therefore reaping the profits.

As for other drugs many of these could be handled by the pharmaceutical companies thereby profiting by the development better controlling quality and strength , processing and selling of such drugs. This could also lead to better regulation and quality control and even making such drugs safer to usewhich all in all is better than having millions of people buying illegal drugs for which there is guarntee for its quality or its dangers.

or even to sign onto Convention on the Rights of the Child which only the U.S. and Somalia refuse to endorse
(if the US did then children wouldn't be permitted to work at a young age for wages below minimum wage and that would upset the GOP and Newt Gingrich & Wall Street and Big Business especially those employing children in slave like conditions to enhance the company's profit margin & Obama does not object???
Then again America was built on the Institution of Slavery )

Obama has also breached international law by not keeping track of civilians killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, Pakistan or Libya etc. International law requires those involved in military actions to keep a body count of enemy killed and or civilians and to take steps to inform authorities in the respective countries of the number killed and to attempt to identify those killed .
And further Obama has refused to give the International Committee of The Red Cross free access to those incarcerated by the U.S.

And Obama has committed the crime of refusing to investigate the War Crimes and other alleged crimes committed by the previous administration . This in itself is a violation of International Law and of American law.

The Bush Regime and the Obama Regime play fast and loose with not just International laws but also with American laws so that no one can interfere with the US treatment of prisoners.
Therefore they believe they can legitimately incarcerate alleged terrorists for an indefinite period and without being charged.

Bush and Obama in order to deny those accused of their basic rights as prisoners Of War they are referred to in another bit of Orwellian doublespeak as "detainees". Somehow by a strange twist of logic by merely using a different name for prisoners this allows the US government and its allies to treat those imprisoned in whatever manner they deem fitting ie abuse and torture
In this way the US has been rather uncooperative with human rights organizations including the Red Cross or Red Crescent at Gitmo or Abu Ghraib or Bagram or a hundred other facilities run either openly or surreptitiously by the U.S..

Over and over again Obama has been dismissive of any international Laws or agreements which are not convenient for America or might lead to the prosecution of Americans ie Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld , Colin Powell George Tenet, Wolfowitz, Alberto Gonzales, Condoleeza Rice et al and now two years later President Obama himself and his crew of thugs Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden et al.

see Obama as early as February 20, 2009 insisted: No rights for Bagram prisoners
Sides with Bush, says detainees can't challenge detention in U.S. courts
MSNBC

and in March 2009 : Obama lawyers: Ex-Guantánamo detainees have no rights: PRISONERS OF WAR

The US since 9/11 has been in breach of a number of International Laws for which if the U.S. wasn't so powerful it would be treated as arogue nation like Libya or Iraq or Syria etc. and hopefully if this cam to pass to be tossed out of the Security Council if not the United Nations itself. But when Americans massacre innocent civilians or abuse and torture prisoners or invade sovereign nations based upon sheer lies and propaganda they always get a free pass.

Even legislators in the British Parliament are calling for President Obama to shut down Guantanamo Bay prison.

This is news because Great Britain under Tony Blair and beyond has been America's staunchest ally. President Obama as he has all along has refused to shut down Guantanamo or to release most if not all the prisoners since even the guilty could claim having spent enough time in jail and have been abused and tortured to the extent that they have paid their debt and more as it were to America .

But of course Obama refuses because if he publicly admits that the majority of those incarcerated over the last decade in Guantanamo were not guilty of any serious crimes and that those in positions of authority under Bush and Obama knew this or just didn't care. For some of those in power wanted to teach these Arabs, Afghanis, Iraqis and Muslims that they shouldn't mess with America.

So as in this situation and others Obama is not a friend of the Muslim world and will only support the various Muslim and Arab nations if they support American interests and those of its corporations unconditionally.

Further as we have seen in Obama's reluctance to support The Arab Spring he is not in favor of democratic free autonomous independent sovereign states unless their rulers and governments act in favor of U.S. and Western interests before the interests of their own countries.
President Obama may have an appealing rhetorical style but it is in the end more window dressing to hide the real agenda of America which is self-serving and to hell with all other nations .
Behind Obama's friendly smiles is just another typical self-serving " Ugly American " .

Obama refuses to close Guantanamo or even to release those for whom there is no evidence to prove they are terrorists . Even those who have been shown to be innocent over the years have been denied their rights and have been abused and tortured. Even Obama is not on the side of justice or human rights or International law concerning the treatment of Prisoners of War .
And still I find it maddening that so many Obama supporters deny these facts claiming Obama ended the abuse and torture of prisoners. He feels he can say this honestly because he like Bush has redefined what amounts to abuse or torture.

Besides as Cheney would say no one has the right to judge America and so the US government and its agencies the CIA, the Pentagon, the Department of Justice, Homeland Security have the right to do as they please because America is on a mission from GOD.
The more secular American view wraps itself in the Flag and Manifest Destiny and American exceptionalism or even the "The Will To Power' and that as the only superpower other nations must mind their own business except when America demands and bully them into compliance and cooperation as in using NATO to carpet bom Libya killing thousands of innocent civilians in order to make libyans free to be governed by possibly just another brutal authoritarian regime no better if not worse than Gaddafi . There is also concern that the new Libyan regime may copy the Afghanistan Taliban's strict medieval style of Sharia that is Islamic law and impose this law on the citizens of Libya whether they like it or not.

" EXCLUSIVE: An Open Letter to the US Congress From Members of the British Parliament About Guantanamo "
by: Jeremy Corbyn, John Leech, Caroline Lucas and Michael Meacher, Truthout | Op-Ed December 01,2011

As a group of elected members of Parliament (MP) from all the main parties represented at Westminster, we are outraged by the current position of the US Congress which, apparently, means that Guantanamo Bay prison will never be closed, and, of particular concern to us, that a British resident who was cleared for release more than two years ago, cannot return here.

The US official document given to him states, "On January 22, 2009 the president of the United States ordered a new review of the status of each detainee in Guantanamo. As a result of that review you have been cleared for transfer out of Guantanamo.... The US government intends to transfer you as soon as possible...."

Mr. Shaker Aamer, who has a British wife and four children, has now been held for nine and a half years, despite the fact that officials in the US governments of both President Bush and President Obama have been aware for several years that there was never a case for him to answer.

During this period Mr. Aamer has been tortured by US agents - for example, by having his head repeatedly banged against a wall - and has witnessed the torture of another UK resident.

In January of this year, with eight other prisoners, Mr. Aamer started a new hunger strike to press for his release. In a scribbled note to his lawyers on the official paper saying he could be released, he urged them to work fast and get him home to his wife and kids "before it's too late."

In recent days, new evidence has emerged via a legal representative who has visited Mr. Aamer about his fragile state of health, including extreme kidney pain and serious asthma problems. He is clearly in urgent need of an independent medical assessment.

The British foreign secretary has raised this appalling case with the US secretary of state, stressing its high importance to the UK government and to many people in Britain who are shocked by the painful injustice Mr. Aamer and his British family have suffered at the hands of our ally.

In Britain, we have seen nine UK citizens and five UK residents returned from Guantanamo, after prolonged negotiations and court action, and the UK government took the responsibility for those men's conduct on their return. All have been exemplary members of our society ever since. There is no reason to believe Mr. Aamer would be any different, and the UK government is responsible for verifying that.

Mr. Aamer was not returned with the others during the Bush period, perhaps because he knew too many terrible stories from the prison. As a Saudi citizen, educated in the US, with a warm and outgoing personality, he had language and social skills that made him a chosen leader in several negotiations with the US authorities in Guantanamo Bay prison - notably over ending earlier hunger strikes. The negotiations failed when the prison authorities did not keep the bargains made, according to lawyers familiar with that period in the prison. Mr. Aamer's prominence among the prisoners has been reported by former prisoners, by several US guards and a number of lawyers with experience in his case.

and so it goes,
GORD.

2. -a bizarre story out of the Occupy Movement in Montreal Canada.
and if true the story is rather disturbing. It seems there are allegations that the Montreal Police branded Occupy protesters after being arrested with numbers on their hands which can only be seen under ultraviolet lights so that if they return to the Occupy Site they can be rearrested??? Shades of NAZIS and the Jews . Is it a sign of a coming police state or will it end up being just a matter of really bad PR for the Montreal Police??? Are they stunned or what???

Occupy Montreal Protesters Branded by Police CTV Montreal, December 1, 2011

Some members of the Occupy Montreal movement are considering legal action against the Montreal police after they were branded without their consent

Police expelled the group of protesters from Victoria Square last Friday, as part of the group handcuffed themselves to the outdoor kitchen.

"The police asked us to move and we did not comply," said activist Bed Godin. "They removed us by using force."

Protesters were taken to a bus, where officers processed them, and marked some with an ink that could only be seen under a UV light.

"They took pictures and then they wrote one number. I got the number 5 in black marker," he said.

Police say it was to identify the demonstrators, and described it as the best technique to prevent the group from returning to Victoria Square.

They also said it's a technique long used by clubs and bars.

Constitutional lawyer Julius Grey, however, said protesters weren't in a bar and that the police violated the activists' civil rights.

"If the police said, ‘May we do this?' and the person said, ‘Yes,' then I don't think there would be any problem… You can't do something physically to somebody. You can't brand them, mark them, touch them, cut their head… physical acts," he said.

Ben Godin and others are now considering a civil suit against police.

Meanwhile, the Occupy movement has now moved to the gazebo on Mount Royal.

The overarching insidious influence of the big corporations and the superwealthy .
Today's story of Big Business dictating to the U.S. government concerns the possible fraud and other alleged criminal activities including criminal negligence causing bodily harm of Blackwater.inc aka XEservices.inc
.
The story has taken a bizarre twist as Erik Prince the CEO of Blackwater threatens legal action against Representative Schakowsky (D-Illinois)if she continues with investigation into the conduct of the Blackwater.ink CEO and of individuals who were working for Blackwater while on contract to the U.S. government.

But first I would like to put in perspective how difficult it has become especially in the U.S. to investigate any allegations made about any corporation whether or not contracted out by the government.
Firstly Corporations are now to be treated as "persons" according to the decision in the case of Citizens United by Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) and therefore these corporate entities have the same rights as a citizen of the United States.
Corporations are therefore protected by the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights and its amendments and other relevant statutes.

So to make allegations publicly against a corporation we could assume that said corporation could indeed file a suit for defamation of character or slander or damage to it's livelihood ie its contracts and profits.

Anyway here's another twist on the ongoing saga of corruption and criminal activity of the various corporations the U.S. government contracted out to in America's ongoing Global War on Terror begun by Bush and Cheney and now continued under President Obama. We know now that Billions of dollars disappeared down the black Hole as it were of the American misguided mishandled disastrous Global War On Terror. At time it does almost appear as if the whole project has in great part been a way for a number of corporations to make a shit load of money.

Part of the government's role is toinvestigate any possible wrongdoing or criminal activity. This would include fraud of various sorts such as over billing the government for contracts or for breaking various laws such as labor laws, environmental . When it comes to some contracting out by the US government the actions of the private contractor can have consequences which can cost lives if the private contractor has not been completely forthright about the limitations of hardware sold to the government .
For instance in a military contract the government purchases equipment which must be up to certain standards as in hardware such as tanks or troop carriers or body armor for American troops. If in the field these items perform poorly as compared to what the military the pentagon or the White House has been told and what the troops have been told this is of course fraud but it has a more serious and criminal side to it since in this case poor performance can mean personnel being physically injured or wounded or killed.
To knowingly sell such goods to the military to be used on the battle field is not just fraud but can be construed as at the least criminalnegligence causing bodily harm. Such cases should be pursued and investigated by the Department of Justice

The information made available to those with the authority to pursue such cases may initially come from whistleblowers who are willing to cooperate with the DOJ or whatever relevant government body. This becomes an unlikely occurrence in the U.S. the last ten years or so since President Bush and President Obama perceive anyone leaking information or documents even in cases of criminal actions as being enemies of the state as in the case of alleged whistleblower Bradley manning.

So a member of the U.S. military discovers a case of fraud but also discovers thatthe cover up for this fraud involves superior officers and or people of higher ranks or upper echelion bureaucrats who are seen as unassailable.
So to whom should the concerned soldiers or lower echelon bureaucrat turn to to have these allegations investigated honestly and without prejudice.

As mentioned one way of getting around the problem of whom to trust is to leak the information to the press to then put pressure on the government to take action. What mostly happens is a toothless investigation by some sub-committee or what have you which only does a superficial investigation in a relatively short period of time or becomes entangled in the legal processes and bureaucratic procedures so that the issue gets burried in an avalanche of bureaucratic Kafkaesque meaningless maneuvers based in essence in cowardice. That is if the allegations point to certain pwerful individuals who could destroy the careers of those involved in the investigation then these legislators and bureaucrats are going to essentially drag their feet but in a manner which gives the public the impression of action taking place.

In the case of investigations into Blackwater aka XEServices which had been given over a billion doallars worth of contracts by the U.S. government we have the CEO of the company Erik Prince threatening an elected official Rep. Jan Schakowsky if she dares to pursue allegations made against him and his company.

If it is seen as legal and even ethical that Erik Prince has the right to intimidate and to have a cease and desist order filed against Rep. Jan Schakowsky for performing her duties then the take over of the US government and its military by privateinterest is a fait accomli.

" Representative Schakowsky Receives Letter of Intimidation From Former Blackwater CEO" by: Yana Kunichoff, Truthout | Report , December 1, 2011

Rep. Jan Schakowsky's (D-Illinois) attempt to end the multimillion dollar business of outsourcing in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn't sit well with the former CEO of the notorious Blackwater company, Erik Prince, who sent a hand-delivered cease-and-desist letter to the Congresswoman threatening legal action if she continued to make "false and defamatory" statements about him.

The Stop Outsourcing Security Act, introduced in 2007 by Schakowsky, would target numerous companies like the former Blackwater, now XE Services, to be eventually phased out to end the misappropriation of government functions and unaccountable abuses by contractors.

Though Schakowsky recognizes that this decision would impact numerous companies, she singled out Blackwater's bloody record as a "company that has become synonymous with misconduct" in a speech on the House floor Wednesday, and said that the letter constituted "attempted intimidation" by Prince.

The letter from Prince's attorney cited a September 8 article for the Independent UK in which Schakowsky said, "If Mr. Prince had not emigrated to the United Arab Emirates, which does not have an extradition agreement with the US, he too would now be facing prosecution."

In response, the letter said: "Your statement to [the Independent], which imputes commission of a crime, is per se libelous ... Your malice cannot be questioned. You have a multi-year history of making derogatory comments about Mr. Prince and his former company, Blackwater. You have abused your Congressional power to request that Mr. Prince be investigated."

With Price as CEO, Blackwater was the recipient of more than $1 billion in federal contracts to work in countries including Iraq and Afghanistan. At the same time, it was responsible for the death of more than 200 Iraqis, including the infamous shooting of 17 civilians by four Blackwater employees in 2007.

Schakowsky does not support war contractors in any function; she told Truthout in an in-depth interview: "There's going to be a report coming out pretty soon dealing with what is inherently a government function, and I'm looking forward to that. I absolutely would not [support war contractors in any position]. We cannot outsource war."

Nor does she plan to let the letter from Prince's attorney derail her plans: "I want to make it clear to Mr. Prince that I will not stop working to end our reliance on private security contractors and to investigate any and all allegations of misconduct," Schakowsky said.

Obama Fulfilling Neocon Agenda & GOP Supports Israel First Policy

Edited update: Dec. 2, 2011

 For #OWS  & #Warisacrime:

Surprisingly from a Hollywood movie we get the consequences of American Foreign Policy summarized in less than 3 minutes. The foreign policy of the US is more often than not a policy to protect the interests of Big Business and to allow the Military Industrial Complex to flex its muscles and to show off its newest gadgetry while expanding U.S. hegemony as part of the American Empire. .

This clip from Good Will Hunting sounds almost prophetic given who became president a stoner who drank too much and was too cowardly and lazy to join the armed forces. Former President Bush was hooked on Whiskey and Cocaine and then hooked on the Lord from drug addict to Jesus Freak. According to the GOP and the Neocons cowards, spoiled rich kids, drug addicts and Alcoholics make good presidents because such individuals are easy to control.

Wesley Clark ( US 4 Star General ) US will attack 7 countries in 5 years.

Glenn Greenwald argues that President Obama is continuing whether by design or not with the same Neocon foreign policies as that of the former Bush Regime. That is destabilizing the Middle East so America has more control over the region and to defend Israel and its long term goals to occupy more territory and continue its Apartheid Regime.

Obama Fulfilling the Neocon Dream? Mass Regime Change in Muslim World? by Glenn Greenwald at Democracy Now ! Via Information Clearing House November 28, 2011

“... if you go down that list of seven countries that he said the neocons had planned to basically change the governments of, you pretty much see that that vision, despite the perception that we have a Democratic president and therefore the neo-conservative movement is powerless, is pretty much being fulfilled,” Greenwald says.
The Israel First Policy is a major campaign policy of  the majority of the Republican presidentential candidates.
According to these GOP presidential candidates US foreign policy in the Middle East must rest upon the basic principle that Israel's needs and its security come before any other foreign relations concerns of the US government. The US government they insist must support Israel unconditionally.

One of the reasons the Republican presidential candidates are making Israel First as their major foreign policy concerns is that they want to ingratiate themselves and gain support from the Christian evangelical religious right who are now such an influential group in the GOP. The religious Right insist that the US support israel unconditionally based upon their own theological and escatalogical beliefs that is that Israel must be permitted to expand its borders to include territory promised to the Israelites by God in the old testament that is the Promised Land or Greater Israel known as Eretz Yisrael Hashlemah.

From Wikipedia:

Greater Israel is a controversial expression with several different Biblical and political meanings over time.
Currently, the most common definition of the land encompassed by the term is the territory of the State of Israel together with the Palestinian territories. Other earlier definitions, favored by Revisionist Zionism, included the territory of the former British Mandate of Palestine (with or without Transjordan, which developed independently after 1923). Other religious uses refer to one of the Biblical definitions of the Land of Israel found in Genesis 15:18-21, Numbers 34:1-15 or Ezekiel 47:13-20.
Promised LandMain article: Land of IsraelSee also: Promised LandGreater Israel occasionally refers to the Promised Land (defined in Genesis 15:18-21) or to the Land of Israel, and is also called Complete Land of Israel or "Entire Land of Israel" (Hebrew: ארץ ישראל השלמה‎, Eretz Yisrael Hashlemah). This is a more accurate translation than "Greater" Israel, which is used in English but has no real counterpart in Hebrew.
The Bible contains three geographical definitions of the Land of Israel. The first, found in Genesis 15:18-21, is vague. It describes a large territory, "from the brook of Egypt to the Euphrates", comprising all of modern-day Israel, the Palestinian Territories, and Lebanon, as well as large parts of Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. The proportion of current Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey included in this territory is debatable.
The other two definitions are found in Numbers 34:1-15 and Ezekiel 47:13-20 and describe a smaller territory
also see : http://www.eretzisraelforever.net/ Eretz Israel  Forever.

As the above map shows Greater Israel  would include parts of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait, most of Syria and all of Jordan & Lebanon. This is quite an ambitious and would have disastrous consequences for the Middle East and the world. So who's more dangerous an increasingly militarized triumphant arrogant Israel with its some 300 Atomic weapons or Iran which has zero Atomic weapons.

This Greater Israel is referred toas eretz Israel which the ultra-orthodox Jews argue is their right to occupy and that all non-Jews be expelled from. The Evangelical pro-Zionist Christians ie Pastor John Hagee 's organization CUFI Christians For a United Israel believe that the Book of Revelation in the New Testament prophezizes that before the Second Coming of Christ can occur Israel must first retake Greater Israel and rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and perform animal sacrifices at the Temple ie the pure Red Heffer. To the Zionist Evangelical Christians the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 was a sign that the end-times scenario of the Book of revealtion had begun.

The Religious Right therefore is pushing for war with Iran and anyother state which is seen as a possible enemy of Israel. So any regime change or move towards democracy or whatever is only to be accepted if the new Regime does all it can to foster good relations with Israel and allows Israel to expand its borders in order to occupy Greater Israel.

Republicans and Israel: Too Much Love Can Kill You By Chemi Shalev Haaretz via Information Clearing House November 28, 2011

Republicans are saying they'll attack Iran for Israel's sake - this might not only prove to be 'bad for the Jews' in the long run, but could also come back to haunt the Republicans themselves.

Herman Cain said the U.S. would “join Israel” in attacking Iran, as long as the Israelis came up with a credible plan;

Newt Gingrich said the U.S. would bomb Tehran only as a “last recourse” but would be happy to team up with Israel in a “conventional” attack;

Michele Bachmann has already indicated that the Pentagon should present “war plans” in order to rescue “millions of Israelis who are on the precipice of losing their lives”;

Rick Perry said “if we're going to be serious about saving Israel, we better get serious about Syria and Iran”;

Rick Santorum made up for lost time in the debate by declaring later, “I’d be working with Israel and be very clear with Iran that we are preparing a military strike";

Mitt Romney thinks that the answer to Iran is to go to Israel “to show the world we care about that country and that region”;

and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, usually the most cautious Republican debater on matters of foreign policy, said “our interest is to ensure that Israel - that Iran does not go nuclear. Our interest in the Middle East is Israel.”

Not Saudi Arabia. Not the Gulf emirates. Not the Maghreb. Not the Horn of Africa. Not a stable Iraq. Not a moderate Egypt. Not the free flow of oil. Not containment of China and Russia. Not Islamic moderation, not even the fight against jihadist terrorism. Just Israel.

...Of course, the main reason for the current Republican lovefest with Israel isn’t so much the Jewish lobby, the Jewish vote or even Jewish campaign contributions, but rather the intense courtship of the Israel-adoring Christian Evangelical vote, which is likely to play a pivotal role in the upcoming Republican primaries. These voters view oaths of loyalty to Israel as a qualifying benchmark for all aspiring candidates and they are hardly likely to be deterred by the possibility of conflagration in the Middle East which is, after all, but a necessary dispensationalist end-of-days landmark “on the Road to Armageddon” as Timothy Weber’s 2004 book explains.

But for many, less “Israelocentric” Americans, as well as for the hundreds of millions of people throughout the world who are closely monitoring the Republican race, the unabashed and unqualified Republican embrace of Israel at the expense of other, no-less-critical issues for America’s well-being might very well be seen as confirming the delusional conspiratorial descriptions of rabid Jew-baiters. This might not only prove to be “bad for the Jews” in the long run, but could also come back to haunt the Republicans themselves should the issue of Iran still be on the table if and when one of them is sworn into office on January 20, 2013 (or January 21, as the 20th is a Sunday).

and so it goes,
GORD.
