Sarah Palin Wants to Expand Powers of Vice Presidency : The New Dick Cheney

update: 9:39pm. Oct. 4

Anyway ,Sarah Palin to replace Cheney as the Puppet Master For McCain.

It seems odd at times when commentators suggest that the Vice President has very limited powers. Some even suggest that the VP is more of an honary position. As Maddow points out after eight years of Dick Cheney as VP this seems ludicrous. Because Dick Cheney has exercised so much power many believe that he has been the real power in Bush's administration more so than Bush himself. Cheney it is believed set the tone and agenda from the stat in the Bush administration. Cheney was all along front and center when it came to a number of policies from invading Iraq to defending the use of torture. Of course he was aided by Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleeza Rice Colin Powell and Wolfowitz and Karl Rove. But it was Dick Cheney that in many ways has run the Bush administration. Cheney has already expanded the powers of the vice president beyond that of what was traditionally the vice presidents powers which were rather limited. In Palin's case this would mean that much of the real power in the McCain administration would reside with Palin. That's why I for one have at times called the Republican ticket the Palin/McCain ticket rather than the McCain/Palin ticket.

Rachel Maddow comments on Sarah Palin's remark at the VP debate that VP powers should be expanded as Cheney believes.

Jonathan Turley & Maddow point out that Sarah Palin was served a suboena to do with Troopergate but she refuses to comply with the Judges ruling that she must comply. Palin has also insisted that her E-Mails as governor and other correspondence are protected under Executive Privilege. Sounds a lot like Dick Cheney.

Talk me down: During the debate GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin suggested that the powers of the vice presidency ought to be expanded. Is she going to be another Dick Cheney? Jonathan Turley, professor of law at George Washington University, tries to talk Rachel down.

Here's an example of Dick Cheney's slickness in changing the role of the vice presidency making him beyond legal concerns- as Olbermann claims" Cheney is a rogue nation ".

Is Cheney Above The Law- Keith Olbermann
From Crooks and Liars:SilentPatriot: There may be a bright side to this: If Cheney wants to assert that his office is not an "entity within the executive branch," that means he's not entitled to executive privilege, right? I want those energy task force minutes!!

Cheney's Secret Government: Rahm Emanuel vs. Dick Cheney
Democrats plan to cut Cheney out of executive funding bill

Following Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion that his office is not a part of the executive branch of the US government, Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) plans to introduce an amendment to the the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill to cut funding for Cheney's office.

The amendment to the bill that sets the funding for the executive branch will be considered next week in the House of Representatives.

Here's a refresher on how Cheney, Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice etc.lied to the American People and yet Americans in general see nothing wrong with it.
So give me a break and stop insisting your children shouldn't lie or deceive people . I really hate when teachers and others go on about all those kids who have no respect for teachers or other authorities. How can they respect authoritty when those in authority lie and cheat to protect themselves and their friens and do so impunity. While these people lie a large proportion of our society defends those lies or covers up for those who lie.To the media all of this is either considered unimportant or they take part in the various ruses and deceptions . The New York Post or The Washington Post is only interested in selling newspapers and have no vested interest in uncovering the truth. Since the media was complicit in leading Americans into war and in keeping Bush & Co. in power their main interest is in keeping most Americans uninformed or confused since they are the main arm if you will of the Cheney /Bush administrations Ministry of Truth. Wiith Palin & McCain in power things will just continue with more lies, deceptions and more and more secrecy to cover up those lies.

The Religious Right/ Neocon philosophy is to do whatever to make oneself rich and powerful anything else they claim is nonsense. As for those who are not as lucky as those who are rich and powerful they are told they have failed because they were not truly Born Again or saved or are not repetant enough or do not pray enough.

In fact, Palin even tried to make the event her own little tête-a-tête with viewers – often shutting out Biden and moderator Gwen Ifill to directly address the camera with plenty of winking and smirking.
When Palin found Ifill’s questions pesky, she ignored them to deliver the answers she’d been coached on. This resulted in lots of repetition peppered with “you betchas” and “doggone its” so even stupid people could follow her.
She only dropped one bomb, saying it would be dandy to have even more power as VP than Dick Cheney – the most evil, Machiavellian figure ever to darken the White House.
Once again, Palin showed us she’s great if someone puts words in her mouth. She just has problems when she has to think for herself with ruthless media barracudas like Katie Couric.

...In Thursday night’s debate, Ms. Palin was asked about the vice president’s role in government. She said she agreed with Dick Cheney that “we have a lot of flexibility in there” under the Constitution. And she declared that she was “thankful that the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president also, if that vice president so chose to exert it.”
It is hard to tell from Ms. Palin’s remarks whether she understands how profoundly Dick Cheney has reshaped the vice presidency — as part of a larger drive to free the executive branch from all checks and balances. Nor did she seem to understand how much damage that has done to American democracy.
Mr. Cheney has shown what can happen when a vice president — a position that is easy to lampoon and overlook — is given free rein by the president and does not care about trampling on the Constitution.
Mr. Cheney has long taken the bizarre view that the lesson of Watergate was that Congress was too powerful and the president not powerful enough. He dedicated himself to expanding President Bush’s authority and arrogating to himself executive, legislative and legal powers that are nowhere in the Constitution.

and so it goes,
GORD.
