AMERICA'S LEGACY TO HISTORY (NOT IN OUR NAME)

" There comes an hour when protest no longer suffices: after philosophy there must be action; the strong hand finishes what the idea has planned; Prometheus Bound begins, Aristogeiton completes; the Encylopédie enlightens souls, the 10th of August electrifies them. After Aeschylus, Thrasybulus: after Diderot, Danton. The multitudes have a tendency to accept a master. Their mass deposits apathy. A mob easily totalises itself into obedience. Men must be aroused, pushed, shocked by the very benefits of their deliverance, their eyes wounded with the truth, light thrown them in terrible handfuls.

An enormous fortress of prejudices, or privileges, of superstitions, of lies, of exactions, of abuses, of violence, of iniquity, of darkness, is still standing upon the world with its towers of hatred. It must be thrown down. This monstrous pile must be made to fall. To conquer at Austerlitz is grand; to take the Bastille is immense. "

Les Miserables, Saint Denis, Book Thirteenth, Chapter III
Victor Hugo 1802-1885

Anyway I was listening to the French National anthem "La Marseillaise" which I do everyday sung by Edith Piaf & a version by Charles Aznovar & I began toying with the idea of playing around with the lyrics to better represent the troubling & farcical times in which we find ourselves . So here are the original lyrics translated into English to be followed by my own unmusical version as it were. Hopefuly the French don't take offence .

LA MARSEILLAISE

Ye sons of France, awake to glory!
Hark! Hark! the people bid you rise!
Your children, wives, and grandsires hoary
Behold their tears and hear their cries!
Behold their tears and hear their cries!
Shall hateful tyrants, mischief breeding,
With hireling hosts a ruffian band
Affright and desolate the land
While peace and liberty lie bleeding?
To arms, to arms, ye brave!
Th'avenging sword unsheathe!
March on, march on, all hearts resolved
On liberty or death.

Oh liberty can man resign thee,
Once having felt thy gen'rous flame?
Can dungeons, bolts, and bar confine thee ?
Or whips thy noble spirit tame?
Or whips thy noble spirit tame?
Too long the world has wept bewailing
That falsehood's dagger tyrants wield;
But freedom is our sword and shield
And all their arts are unavailing.
To arms, to arms, ye brave!
Th'avenging sword unsheathe!
March on, march on, all hearts resolved
On liberty or death.

NOTE:
Written by Rouget de Lisle, a young officer in the French army
stationed in Strasbourg in 1792. It was played at a patriotic
banquet at Marseilles, and printed copies were given to the
revolutionary forces then marching on Paris. They entered Paris
singing this song, and to it they marched to the Tuileries on
August 10th. Ironically, Rouget de Lisle was himself a royalist
and refused to take the oath of allegiance to the new
constitution. He was imprisoned and barely escaped the
guillotine.

Unfortunately the ideals presented in those lyrics have rarely been achieved ; if ever.
And so here for your amusement is my less tuneful version of the Marseillaise dedicated to the The New American Empire & its rulers & those countries who rally round the Stars & Stripes to carve up the world & its spoils . Fot its always the same since man began to conquer & plunder since the time of Cain & Able ...

MARCH ON ! MARCH ON !

Arise! Arise !
Chastise all who will not arise
to protect your empire of lies
unsheathe your swords of vengeance
in the name of all that is Holy
march on march on ye sons & daughters of America
to breed mischief o’er all the world
march on march on in the name of tyranny
march on march on for King & country
killing all you despise who will not be melted
into your melting pot who will not bow down
to the one true God in whom you trust
march on march on over a thousand killing fields
smite them all the wretched of the earth
pity not the poor , the orphan & the weak
who are but a burden on the people’s purse
march on march on in the name of Jesus
the avenger of the Good & the Mighty
march on march on for a hundred years of war -

ARISE! ARISE
march on march on til none resist
smite even your friend who refuses to believe
for he too is already dead to you
for he is not among the Twice-Born
march on march on in the name of calvary
march on march on to conquer Arabia
march on march on to Armageddon
March on ! march on ! for the reconquesta
March on ! march on ! to Babylon
fight on til their land is desolate -

Arise ! Arise !
with the Stars & Stripes held high
march on ! march on ! to kill the infidel
march on ! march on ! for you are the blessed
and none shall question your faith
march on ! march on ! for these are the end of days
let not doubt enter your thoughts
like the evil worm in the apple -

Arise ! Arise !
with greed in your eyes
march on ! march on ! to pillage & plunder
as you harden your heart
and build a wall around
as you become as an impenetrable fortress
in a world lost in darkness -

Arise! Arise!
Awake to the Eagles cries
March on ! March On !
To spread freedom for your race
which only deserves God’s Grace
as you smite the teeming masses
who are a mote in God’s eye
ignore their tears & cries
scatter their limbs hither & yon
as they plead for liberty
for their pleas are as tinkling brass
as you make way for the Messiah
to build the celestial city
over the graves of millions -

Arise ! Arise ! for it is your birth-right
to make slaves of them all
to fill your prisons the world round
march on march on to subdue the nations
in the name of the tyrant and his band of ruffians
thieves to a man or woman
march on ! march on ! til the sands run red
with the blood of their soldiers, their wives & children
Rejoice in their deaths
sing songs of jubilation
sing songs unto the Lord
march on ! march on ! with Sword & Cross
singing death to liberty except for the chosen -

SO TAKE CARE,
GORD.
